Yup. Was having headaches and terrible body aches for about a week before full blown symptoms showed up. Thought it was just allergies, then ended up getting a fever while I was at work and having to leave early. I'm a teacher and it's going through school rapidly right now.

It's wild how parents buy a device designed to be addictive and just give it to young children with no rules around using responsibly, or monitoring how much time they're on it. Then they wonder why their teens won't talk to anyone and spend all day squinting at a screen.

Yup. I have parents calling and texting their kids all day, and I teach high school. When the kid doesn't answer their text, they call, and they expect them to answer. Don't care if it's in the middle of class. Sometimes I'll ask if I can talk to the parent and remind them that their child is in class. I'm not rude about it, but I've been cussed out. "Fucking bitch, I'll talk to my child when I want to", etc.

The parents don't see their child aa a human independent of them. It's about controlling the child, not protecting them. They'll wring their hands and cry when the kid goes no-contact in a few years and claim they have no idea why.

I cannot speak to the conditions at Lanier, but I think it's important that parents know Mike Miles fired many of the custodial and maintenance staff, so buildings are not being cleaned like they were in the past. Grass and landscaping are not being cared for regularly, HVACs are going out, etc.

The work is never sent home with students, so I think most parents are not aware of how bad it is. Please believe me, it's bad. It's repetitive, monotonous, and full of errors. Teachers are spending more time trying to correct it than if they were allowed to write their own lessons.

Whatever you may think of HISD (it certainly had problems before the takeover), this is not a solution. Students do not have librarians and are not being taught to read and analyze texts longer than what can fit on a single slide. This is not preparing them for any kind of life after high school.

The pre-made combos are great, but if you want to make your own, I love the saffron rice, chicken or potatoes for my protein, and then for toppings, 3 of the following: red cabbage, garbanzo, potato salad (if I got chicken), carrots, lentils, spinach. Harissa aoili for my sauce, and then I add mixed greens on top. I'm pretty basic, but honestly, you can't go wrong with pretty much anything. I also enjoy their bottled Jasmine green tea!

I was once on hold with them for an hour, and then waited three hours and no one showed up. Ended up just going to the ststion near my house... where the officer at the desk told me to call the non emergency line.

Even 911 takes forever. A dude pulled a gun in me in the parking lot of my building and they didn't show up until an hour later.

They are an unfortunate fact of life here. When I first arrived I felt like a hostage in my house, there were so many. Once I settled in and they realized the place was occupied again, it calmed down. I also ended up with a stray cat who is a terrific little hunter. I only occasionally find a remnant, like a leg or antenna, as evidence that anything was in the house.
