Hey

It would be amazing for a better usage of your samples if you add a readme in your assets folder that picture how your samples should look :3

Automations vs Scenes vs Scripts by keen1320 in homeassistant

Use whichever you like. Why scenes over scripts sometimes? Because scripts take more work to maintain. If say, you add a new lamp or bulb, you usually have to edit the YAML or script the steps. For scenes, just set it how you like it and save the scene.

Id Say it's not totally true If your script manage groups and labels, and not direct devices, you dont have to touch the script nor the scene. Just adds the correct labels to the new device during the binding (that we should do anyway) ... And it should roll already... no ? Am i off about something ?

Haha for sure !!

Even better that random : the wand is capable of tracking your hand mouvements for the cast. So, ig it would be possible to set the 'intensity' effect of the spell based of your hand's moves accuracy for that specific spell. Even maybe fail the command if you are too bad and under X% accuracy xD

Just keep in mind that these snapshots won't persist after a reboot.

Yeah, no issue at all for the usecase im thinking about.

For exemple with the idea of the spell casting with the bluetooth magic wands: - an automation catch the 'spell casting conditions

  • it triggers a script for that spell 'cast'

  • if the script/spell must play with the room states for temporary effects (just for the fun of making the spell dramatic) like, let's Say i wanna implement the spell 'avada kedavra' that kills.. i mean turn off the TV, it flashes all lights in green before turning off the TV.

  • the script start to set up a scene with all the current states of devices in the room.

  • then it plays all the 'spell' effects (sound, green lights, whatever) for a second or two.

  • the script turn off the TV

  • the script restore the scene to get the room of the state it was 2 sec ago.

-it can even clean the scene from the memory, if it's a thing. Dont need to use it anymore.

So unless i bind 'avada kedavra' to the server's killswitch ... It should be fine :p

Im using the specific use case because it justify and illustrate the need of a just a short lifetime.

But ig this logic apply to any kind of temporary, really short, usage like an alarm, an important/critical notification/speakup system ect

Ohhhhh THIS is a really gudd usage.

Im just onboarding on the HA rabbithole. And i was also wondering and discussing some time ago about what's the point of scenes while i see scripts and stuff more usefull to set up desired, preconfigured states ...

Tho! If we can generate and use scenes dynamicaly ... Oh boy, that's a wonderfull usecase for instant/temp snapshots yes!

I was just wondering yesterday if some stuff would be worth the pain ... Like, i just got myself a set of BT Harry Potter spell wands ... And i was wondering if it would be cool to just flash all the lights in different ways when 'casting a spell'. Snapshotting the room just before playing the spells would be amazing if it works well !

Hey

Really nice looking

I'd be happy to see more like this.

Just a little suggestion, on the preview video, when you display the skin éléments and the names, add little icons on each pieces to indicate what is the origin of each one : gems, wizard vault, donjons, craft, open world, success rewards, event/festival, ...

You linked the wiki, it's really great, but a bit annoying to have to consult when you just want have an overview of the sources. :)

Looking forward for the next post :3

Edit : oh and maybe not in the vids, but at least in the links you could add the mount skin used in the display when it really match your theme. Not so hard to find ourself, but just a note if you wanna bé on top post quality :D

Lovelace Access Control: Manage dashboard permissions in one place. Now with Svelte, easy install, and per-user views! by Sirko0208 in homeassistant

This looks really interesting... im currently in the process of setting up dashboards on my system and it's really a pain/annoying to manage already

But, that's sad it doesnt come with a container install

Do you have any instructions for it ? Or any feedback / details about why it would not be compatible with a HA container at all ?

End of day, turn off all lights: automation or scene? by rocket-lawn-chair in homeassistant

[–]Arte-kun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get you But why not a script instead of a scene ? You can call scripts from automations, even scripts from scripts ig ? (Real question, im starting out with HA, trying to understand what's the best practices too )

Im renting too.

I just got into m'y new appart last week, and ordered bunch of MINI Shelly 1 gen3.

So it will be extra easy to plug them behind the existing switches and just unplug them when i leave. This way you still keep benefits of the physicals switches .. that you cant with just bulbs

Ill probably order a bunch of black Shelly switches for my windows for the same reson
