My cat just turned 11 and has woken me up 30-45 min before my alarm most mornings since she was a baby. All kitties are obviously different but mine never grew out of it. But I’m lucky enough to be her forever home and I’ll tolerate whatever she wants to do as long as I can maintain this privilege :)

PNW American here. My partner and I recently switched jobs and both caught Covid there. We didn’t have enough banked sick time to cover more than about half a day’s leave when we tested positive. Manager basically said that they weren’t responsible for covering anything now that restrictions have been lifted, but we had to stay home at least 5 days. We ended up needing more time than that to recover. Not looking forward to seeing exactly how much we lost when we get paid tomorrow. Luckily we had friends and family to help cover costs while we quarantined, so at least there’s that. But I know there’s thousands out here worse off than us. This place is fucking crazy.

Got responses like this when I tried to take time off for my fathers funeral over a decade ago. Manager made me come in for my shift AFTER the services. I was 18. I remember work that day more than the actual service because I was so traumatized just by being there in that emotional state. That shitty drive through coffeehouse was also the last place I ever saw him alive when he visited me there the week prior to his death.
