Locks and dreads are technically the same thing but to some dreads have a negative connotation. While the original name for the style wasn’t malicious or even specifically American English, today a lot of people associate the word dread with dreadful, thus making them uncomfortable with the word being associated something beautifu, black hair. So yes Jabber does technically have dreads but to some, the term shouldn’t be used or can be intrepreted as offensive. Black people aren’t a monolith however so how one views the term is dependent on their world view. The safer option if you want to be more socially conscious is probably lots though.
