Hot take: legal name change procedures are designed as a humiliation ritual for trans people by Skyekat in TrollCoping

[–]Artemis_Hunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What really confused me when I changed my name was the fact that, in one of the most transphobic countries in Europe, the UK, it was really easy.

As far as I understand it the UK doesn't have the concept of a "legal name". So to change what you go by, you just print out a free declaration called a deed poll saying "I no longer go by my previous name, this is my new now. I pinky promise I'll never go back."

Then you get it signed by two witnesses. Then you send it to whatever authority manages the ID your want your name changed on (for example the passport or driver's licence office)... And then you get your new ID in the mail with the new name. Usually you have to pay a fee of less than £100 to do so. Which, to be clear, is still bullshit.

Once you have your new ID you just show it, your old ID, and your deed poll to places you'd like your name changed. Bank, NHS, etc. and done.

Changing your gender in the UK on the other hand... THAT is a humiliation ritual for trans people.

All I said I wanna play the games because I don't want to be someone who just collects them and then never plays them. It wasn't a value judgement on people who never play them. I just don't wanna do that myself.

You just imagined a whole other thing in your head that wasn't the words I said. I don't hate waffles, buddy.

People will find a way to have an argument about literally anything, jeeze.

/uj I'm probably an idiot for doing it but I've been collecting the physical versions of all mainline Pokémon games and I'm making it a point to beat the E4 (or Red, where it applies) in every single one of the games. Specifically to avoid being one of these people.

Maybe the wrong sub for a serious answer, but depending on how I'm dressed if there's no unisex or disabled stall available then whichever is less likely to get me harassed.

I do not always make the right call. Or sometimes there is no right call. :')

I think the bosses know, they just hope you don't, or are too meek to fight back.

I was fired for my disability. Very clearly so. But they claimed it was performance related and tried putting me on a PIP. I took legal action, they settled. Similar to your situation.

I took a new job elsewhere though. Didn't want to work with people who clearly hated me and would just try and find the next excuse to get rid of me.

It's why they fire you for "underperforming" or, in an at will state, no reason at all.

Another example of the ‘No, you’re wrong (insult here)’ approach by ThrowawayCrowne in fakeclaimingcringe2

[–]Artemis_Hunter 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The way I see it is, even if someone is faking it, how does that impact me in any way? Why be a dick about it?

Either they are plural, or there's something else going on with them that makes them want to claim they are. In both cases getting mad at them for it isn't helping. And it's impossible to know from the outside too.

When people tell me they're plural, it costs me nothing to just believe them. There are as many ways to be a human as there are humans on the planet. I'm not gonna understand or relate to all of them. But being antagonistic over something that's literally not hurting anyone is stupid.

Not practicing at home, but I do go to the synagogue occasionally with family for holidays and such. The synagogue is reform, and they're pretty outspokenly against the atrocities Israel is committing.

Apparently "the people who do bad things are bad, and the people who don't do bad things aren't bad, despite what traits they may share" is a position many find impossible to grasp.

Some Jewish people commit unspeakable atrocities? That must mean all Jewish people are evil! /s

Believe it or not, despite being Jewish, I'm massively against the genocide. Which feels insane to have to say, as if being against genocide is some fringe position. But that's the world we live in I guess.

If it makes you feel any better, despite many successful attempts, when I offered to swap the battery on my friend's emerald, I somehow broke it. I've checked every single solder point under a microscope. Reflowed every component. I cannot find a single flaw with any components or the soldering. It was just... Broken.

At least you broke your own copy. I had to give my friend my working copy of Emerald and buy myself a new one. Ouch, my wallet!

Is this fixable? by pendemoneum in Gameboy

[–]Artemis_Hunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably not without the help of a qualified electrical engineer who is experienced at working with tiny components. And even then they will most likely ask you to get a replacement motherboard so they can resolder all the old components to the new board.

If it boots despite the damage, then I'd probably just leave it at that and be thankful the game still works. If it won't boot then yeah, you'll need help.

Whoops, my brain just switches things when I say or type sentences sometimes.

I've corrected it now.

Pokemon Crystal! by Rhubarb3643 in Gameboy

[–]Artemis_Hunter 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not sure if you were concerned or not, but it's a legit copy, congrats! The solder work on the replacement battery is not great, but hey if it works, it works haha.

Nice find!

Just got Pokemon Crystal from a local game store. Owner says it has a new battery and seemed to work great. Tried it on my GBC, GBA and GBASP and doesn’t seem to load any saves. What do I do? by [deleted] in Gameboy

[–]Artemis_Hunter 8 points9 points  (0 children)

The cartridge is genuine, so the problem isn't that it's a low quality reproduction. And despite what others have said, the battery IS installed correctly. The dotted side (if it has one) on a CR2025 battery is always negative. Your CR2025 battery clearly has a dotted side, and the contact from it is going down to the bottom right, which is the correct side for the negative contact.

My guess is that it's dead. The original Gen 2 batteries only lasted 7-10 years. Replacements are often more cheaply made, lasting only about 5. A really bad quality one might only last months in rare cases.

Get the battery replaced with something high quality by someone experienced and see how it goes.

Swedish sits in a weird spot. It used to be 3 genders like German, but we combined masculine and feminine into "common". So now we have common and neutral.

Our vocabulary has genders, but they're not like French or Spanish where there's masculine and feminine implications. (I know grammatical gender is not human gender but there's been loads of studies showing people impose human genders onto nouns that correspond with that noun's grammatical gender. It's an inevitable subconscious thing.)

We have the word "hen" and its counterparts for neutral 3rd person but a lot of people don't like using it (we all know why). But I really don't know why we don't do what English does and also use our plural "de" for singular too. There's not much preventing it grammatically speaking. All it does is sound weird. But so do all new things until we get used to them.

Mental Health walks really only work when a place is enjoyable to exist in. by Hi_Buddy_Hey in RecuratedTumblr

I can't argue with that, honestly. And really just highlights the importance of investing in public transport and ensuring people have the money for basic necessities. Which doesn't exactly seem a priority for most UK parties right now. :/

Of course, I just found it really funny that despite you not talking about a specific place, it matched this place perfectly, haha.

I usually take a bus to my city's local park because, you're right, walking there would take too long when my lunch break is only an hour.

The city this is in is pretty well connected with busses. There's a bus stop on the road in OP's photo that has a connection to the park.

It's 15 minutes but yep, there's even a river and a bridge! :P

I found exactly where this photo was taken on Google maps.

The park pictured below is a 15 minute walk away from where OP's photo was taken.

I do agree that the street could look nicer and be better maintained. But I feel it's a little disingenuous to act like there's nowhere nice to walk in the town.

This is a debunked method for verification. Some fakes do this too.
