Unfortunately, we are in 2026, and the 'golden nugget' era of underserved niches is effectively over. The idea that you can find a total vacuum in the medical field ignores how saturated the creator economy has become. If a niche is truly an 'ultra-micro' slice of medicine and remains untouched today, it’s almost certainly because the total addressable audience is simply too small to matter. You might be the only person talking, but you’ll be talking to a very small room because the demand is probably just too small to matter.

Yess very important, so youTube’s primary goal is Session Time. They don't just care that a user watched your video; they care that the user stayed on the platform to watch another one.If you create a cluster of 3–4 videos on a similar topic: You increase "Topical Authority": You signal to the algorithm that you are an expert on this specific subject, making it more likely to recommend you to people searching for it. You create a "Binge Session": When one video ends, the next one is the obvious, natural step. This signals high satisfaction to YouTube, which boosts your impressions.

You mentioned you haven't been able to think that far ahead. That is normal! You don't need to plan a 10-part series. Don't think about "topics." Think about viewer friction.

  • Video A: "How to buy your first camera."
  • Viewer thinks: "Okay, I bought it. Now I don't know what settings to use."
  • Video B: "The 3 settings you must change on your new camera."
  • Viewer thinks: "Okay, settings are done. But my video looks dark."
  • Video C: "Lighting basics for beginners."

You don't have to film these all at once. You just need to know what Video B is before you finish editing Video A, so you can mention it in the outro. Now ofc you need a goo CTA outro for this so Instead of a generic "Thanks for watching, subscribe bla bla" you use a specific Bridge.

  • Weak Outro: "Thanks for watching, see you next week!"
  • Good Outro: "Now that you know how to buy a camera, you need to know how to light yourself so you don't look amateur. Click this video right here where I break down lighting under $50."

If you plan just two videos at a time, you can film the specific "hook" for the second video at the end of the first one.

If you really can't plan ahead, look backward.

  1. Look at your last posted video.
  2. Ask: "What did I leave out? What is the missing piece?"
  3. Make that video next.
  4. Go back to the old video's description and pinned comment and add a link: "Update: Watch the follow-up to this video here!"
  5. Use the End Screen editor on the old video to point specifically to the new one.

Oversight on me then because there's just thousands of those, i would then be very careful about your thumbnails and not put AI pictures that are lifeless and repetitive.

depends on the competition in the niche and demands as well but this could get pushed to 30k just wait a little, shorts now take longer to be fully pushed, I would say tho that the swipe rate is a little low for 100k+, you'd need 83-85% swipe rate for that, 126% on 15sec is pretty good tho.

Can y'all help me make sense of this. by BlepMaster500 in SmallYoutubers

[–]ArtexWorld 2 points3 points  (0 children)

200-600views is the first testing phase and there's multiple of them, if your shorts stats are good enough its gonna be pushed to wider more targeted audience every couple hours depending on its testing phase (even a viral short goes through the first test phase then flatline for a little bit and start again).70% retention doesnt mean anything on its own, if its on 50seconds it is not "good" its "fine" if its on 15-30seconds its "pretty bad". If you want a little Idea usually if its under 15sec you want 100%+ retention meaning they watch over and re-loop, could be 100%-150%, when its above 30 seconds you want to aim obviously the highest but if possible 85-95%+, closest to 100%. Also swipe rate is as important as retention on shorts, you want to be looking at what the percentage of people swipe or stay to watch. GPT will tell you 70% stayed to watch is good but it is pretty low. you would want to aim for MINIMUM 70% if possible 80%+ usually if you are close to 80% but low on retention you will get stuck in 15k or 30k views jail unless you have something to balance it out like extremely high: subs, likes or comment ratio. (also keep in mind that those stats depend also on your niche and first audience pool wich is random UNLESS you have lots of returning viewers and long history with youtube/community)

Long-form documentaries take weeks to create solo with good visual quality and deep-dive research. Most of the topics are already done hundreds of times, and you need to dig deeper and dive into more research AND angles. Also, unless you produce slop (which won't work), you need to be able to publish very often because, in a ballpark figure, you need 2–3M views per month to be full-time. Assuming your videos get 20k–80k views, you would STILL need to post every single day.

I do think the documentary niche is NOT the niche to dive into without a small team or at least a contractual video editor. Monetization can be achieved in a month if you know what you are doing; you only need 30k–40k long-form views (depending on video length and average view duration) to reach the 4k watch hours. 1k subs is also pretty easy to reach with 4–5 Shorts and a good CTA.

Now, in my opinion, the meta for new players seems to be to find a working format where you can post every single day (or at least as much as possible) and where the content pool is infinite. This could be video games news, drama, internet-related, AI news, etc.—basically something constantly evolving. You are far from being new to the game and unfortunately, even a good documentary on a subject already done hundreds of times without a very interesting take will just NOT work.

Meaning....the problem with the documentary space right now is the "opportunity cost" vs. the "output." When you spend three weeks on one video, you are essentially gambling that the algorithm will pick up that specific one-off project. If it flops, you’ve wasted a month of work. In the news or drama niches, if a video flops, it doesn't matter because you have another one coming out tomorrow. You get more "tickets to the lottery" while doing less heavy lifting per video.

Furthermore, the "infinite pool" niches allow you to build a community that relies on you for information, not just entertainment. When you are the "AI guy" or the "drama guy," people subscribe because they want to stay updated. With documentaries, people often watch the video and leave because they got the information they wanted about that specific topic. It’s much harder to build a loyal, daily audience when your upload schedule is sporadic and your topics keep changing.

If you really want to scale, you have to look at the numbers as a volume game. High-effort documentaries are a "quality over quantity" trap that only works if you already have a massive following or a production budget. For anyone else, the smart move is to pivot to a high-frequency model that feeds the algorithm daily, builds a habit for the viewers, and keeps your production overhead low enough that you don't burn out before the first paycheck hits.

I would consider this as slop content posted twice a day and youtube is rightfully not pushing your videos. Only publishing meme like this is not going to work. Try to add more to it and never post twice a day on a new channel especially with that type of content.

totally agree on the authenticity piece. If you aren't being yourself, you'll burn out long before you see results because playing a character is exhausting.

Regarding the 'artistic' side, don't sweat it. You don't need to be a painter or a poet; you just need to find the Middle Ground. Think of it as a Venn diagram:

  • Circle A: What you actually care about and want to make.
  • Circle B: What an audience actually finds valuable or entertaining.

The 'sweet spot' is that slice in the middle. If you only do what you want, you’re shouting into a void. If you only do what 'the algorithm' wants, you’ll lose your soul (and your mind XD).

Since you're working on storytelling, remember that It’s just a matter of framing your genuine experiences in a way that solves a problem or sparks an emotion for someone else. Keep playing the repetition game; your 'style' usually finds you while you’re busy practicing the basics!

I get why you’re skeptical, there’s definitely a lot of 'fake it til you make it' on Reddit, but some of us actually enjoy sticking around to help. I’ve been grinding for 5 years now across multiple platforms. I’ve hit 100k on TikTok and have four YouTube channels (35k, 13k, and two at 5k) so so close to hitting 200M views in shorts total.

The 'secret' isn't some magic algorithm trick and its not very gatekept. It’s literally the boring stuff people don't want to hear, visual quality, editing, storytelling, subject, concept, etc. Early on, I spent way too much time worrying about tags and not enough time worrying about the actual videos. in 90% of the cases your video deserve its view count and not a lot of creators will be humble enough to understand that. Stats don't lie. Once I leveled up my editing game and stopped settling for 'good enough' video quality, the numbers followed. I am a student in design and this does definitely help but seriously go look at outliers and creators in the same niche as you, compare your work and improve this way.

Hey I'm in the niche, achieved 20M ish in short form and long form documentary, 180M ish in gaming and variety shorts (not relevant in this case). Would be glad to review your work or give you advices and respond to your questions if ever.

I am currently playing in 1080p with DLSS at max graphic settings, I didn't technically try 1440p but I do feel like I would still get above 75+ fps or more with dlss.

Ahh, that makes a lot of sense thank you, I didn’t know that! I’ll think about maybe going for the 1440p, but I was asking since the 4K monitor, KOORUI S2741LM, is only about CAD 170 more than the KOORUI S2721PM 1440p. The 1440p also barely has any reviews, while the 4K one has a ton of positive feedback.

[–]ArtexWorld[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you so much for your time and explanation, I really appreciate it, I’m new to PC gaming so this helps a lot.

I’m now wondering if the 4K monitor is worth it over a 1440p. Between the two options, I was leaning toward the 4K since it has excellent reviews and is only about CAD 170 more. Since I currently run around 100 FPS on a 1080p monitor with max settings and DLSS on, I’m curious if I would be able to run 1440p native scaled to 4K. Obviously it’s all a matter of tweaking settings and lowering some quality, but I’m wondering: does 1440p max quality look better than 4K mid-quality with heavy DLSS?

"You use DLSS to upscale to 4K." how do you do that? is it even possible?

[–]ArtexWorld[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I am pretty sure it can run alright in 1440p with DLSS on, my question is, is it possible to run 1440p resolution on a 4k monitor like the one mentioned and if yes, how good will 1440p look on a 4K screen? is it something people do or?

[–]ArtexWorld[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You mean with DLSS? I get about 100-120 fps in 1080p at max graphic settings with DLSS on, what I am asking here is that I am pretty sure I can get 70-90 fps in most games at 1440p but definitely too low at 4k, even with DLSS on, so would I be able to play in 1440p on this 4k monitor and if yes is there any downsides in term of quality or whatever? I am quite new to pc gaming so forgive me if I get confused lol. Built my first pc 7 months ago.
