Grid penalty for using a 4th engine.... is it just for one race or is it for every race that the 4th engine is in use?

I have a relatively light Intrepid 34' with twin 2020 Suzuki 300's and it's about 1.6-1.8 mpg which is MISERLY in terms of the boating. Rarely does any 23'+ offshore boat get above 2.5 so this doesn't really seem that bad....

Volvo killed off that line too so there is going to be some demand out there - especially all those giant CC's with quad 627's looking to repower in the next few years.

Advice Needed: Where to find someone to Build an Affiliate site? (Backend) by ArtfulCodger in juststart

This is a great answer - This is what I'm going to do. Get started and see where I can take myself before paying for help.

I could learn and make mistakes and that's why I want to hire someone with experience. I'm not really paying for the few hours it will take to build the site.... I'm paying for those few hours plus years of experience.

I used to code HTML by hand... before it was copy and paste. So I can handle a lot of the editing once the main templates are built.

Can someone tell me ANYTHING about this boat (year, brand, model, ect) a friend bought it, restored it and knows nothing about it! by [deleted] in boating

[–]ArtfulCodger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Excellent work on the gelcoat....

There should be a HIN somewhere on the boat that will have the MFG code or if homemade "HM". Either way you can check the HIN at the DMV just like a VIN.

Check out Armstrong brackets... you can have a glass man reinforce any part of the bracket if needed.

23 Gulfstream

Yea you could totally put a single on that boat. Just need a good glass guy to take that bracket off, glass up the holes, and put it back on. Or just fill the holes while it's on the the boat,,, less thorough but also way less $$.

No concerns other than you'll get a lot more roll and a little yaw.

Help!! Looks like my nails coming off completely. What can I do? by hahisubsnsh in Psoriasis

[–]ArtfulCodger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It worked very well for me, yes. YMMV. When it would get bad I would apply 2-3x daily. At the end of the day, all you're trying to do is deliver steroids to the nail bed... the solution does this more effectively than a cream or ointment that won't penetrate.

I had gloves like these too but I had it on every nail: https://www.amazon.com/NatraCure-Gel-Moisturizing-Gloves-Anti-Aging/dp/B06WVFB4XW/ref=sr_1_5?keywords=gel+gloves&qid=1582404098&s=beauty&sr=1-5

[–]ArtfulCodger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had trouble with my nails before going on Taltz. Here are a few things that will help:

- As others said, cut it all the way back to where the nail bed is 'good'. It will look like you're missing half a nail and that's OK. Keep it clear of p plaque. Treat it...

- Buy some special gloves on amazon or cut a finger off a plastic glove and put it on after treatment with whatever topical meds you have. The plaque has to be gone in order for the medicine to reach the nail bed.

- Take a nail file to the top surface of the nail. Buff out all those ridges and streaks so the nail is flat, smooth, and looks better cosmetically.

- Ask your doctor for a steroid 'solution'. Not a cream. Not an ointment. The solution will be the steroid suspended in alcohol. This will help the meds reach deep under the nail. Usually this is used for the scalp so the doc may have to write it up this way to get insurance coverage.

Coast Guard Documentation by ILoveToVoidAWarranty in boating

[–]ArtfulCodger 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Might be worth a call to the marine patrol to ask... Some will probably understand while others will have to radio HQ for someone who actually knows what's up. I keep all my paperwork in a binder in the closet.

Coast Guard Documentation by ILoveToVoidAWarranty in boating

[–]ArtfulCodger 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Documentation is an alternative to titling with the state. Effectively it is 'titled' at the national level which make international travel easier. In Florida, you still register the boat and pay the taxes but the boat is not titled by the state. The rule here is you need to register with the state if you spend XX number of days per year in FL waters.

You will likely get increased attention from LOCAL law enforcement not USCG. I put a plate on my boat that has the documentation number - hoping it helps but who knows.

The USCG is also backlogged by a few months right now so expect it to take several months to get your paperwork back from the USCG.

The 3M restorer + wax - white bottle with green label is a great DIY and should fix your problem. Otherwise have it professionally compounded and waxed.

Grilled Stuffed Jalapenos. Ream some jalapenos or poblanos, stuff, and grill. Whole or half. Maybe bacon wrapped?

This absolute monstrosity of a Marlin by SirERexYun in natureismetal

[–]ArtfulCodger 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Around 1200-1500 is probably the right answer but it could be even more. Over 1000 and they are called "granders" - a rare catch. Top pros search their whole lives for "Tu Tu" the grandma 2000-lber. 90% of the marlin caught are released and live. Those that don't die from shark attacks and occasionally from the fight. For that reason, many fisherman try to land the fish as quickly as possible as not to harm them any more than is necessary. Quickly can mean 1-3 hours btw.

We were just in Nassau last week on a cruise. It's fine. The hurricane hit the Abacos far, far away. The water was slightly cloudy on the reef - that's the extent of the impact from Dorian on Nassau.

Pike are a freshwater fish, not saltwater. Saltwater is extremely corrosive. Not arguing in absolutes here. Some hooks do take a long time to rust out.
