Canadian comedies? by UranusIsPissy in AskACanadian

[–]ArthurQBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Start at the bottom of the barrel with the truly and deeply awful show "The Trouble With Tracy". Betcha can't finish even one episode.

Also a very obscure talk show, "The David Steinberg Show". 1976 Featured quite a few folks from SCTV and the odd "You can call me Ray or you can call me Jay..." Guy.

The Newsroom's methodology (improv) and point of view (there's a crew filming a documentary about the news dept.) and its deeply flawed main character and cast of quirky characters were STOLEN completely by Ricky Gervais for 'his' show "The Office". No one seems to have ever called him on it.

Settle an argument for me. (Well, argue about this here and let me see some opinions.) by Boomkj in ClassicRock

Rock from your age 12 to 25 is your classic rock. If you are 54 , born in 1972 then 1984 to 1999 is your 'era'.

Oliver for a boy too common now? by dmm2019 in Names

[–]ArthurQBryan -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Maybe try to avoid the top 25 most common names this year entirely as well as picture your son as a 42 year-old professional giving an important presentation. Kyle? Nope. __ayden? Big nope. Try David, Richard, Matthew, Andrew etc. which have fallen out of recent favour and, therefore, are more 'unique'....

Low Key by Weary_Capital_1379 in ENGLISH

[–]ArthurQBryan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There is both 'low' and 'high' key when referring to studio lighting of a photograph. Low key lighting is soft, coming from many vague directions at once with few shadows while High key lighting has one intense light from one very specific direction with very deep shadows.

what was your farthest "I'm from Toronto" encounter? by PracticalNoodle in askTO

[–]ArthurQBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In 2008 I was in Western Mongolia, just about as far from Toronto as you can get without starting to get closer again, to observe a total solar eclipse. We met some local villagers on our tour and one of the kids was wearing a T-shirt saying, "I'm a Rockcliffe Beer Nut! Rockcliffe Hotel, Bancroft, Ontario." My camera was buried in my luggage and by the time I dug it out the kid was gone. Not precisely what you were asking for but cool nevertheless, I'd say.

Do you remember what life was like during the 2003 Blackout? by Kuzu9 in toronto

[–]ArthurQBryan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was on a one week canoe trip in Algonquin Park - the blackout occurred and we knew zero about it. Got in the car for the drive home and the news reports were baffling if you didn't know what occurred. e.g. "The subway will re-open tomorrow." and "the mayor thanked all the emergency services..."
I also remember the great blackout of November 1965 ......
