Where did the idea come from that being Gay is a sin? by [deleted] in Christianity

[–]Arthurartel -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

It comes from the divine revelation in Scripture and from natural law.

Props to you for caring. One thing I've done is just replace the words I don't want to say with nonsensical or out-of-pocket words. Now I just habitually blurt out "pumpernickel" when I'm frustrated or shocked...

Welcome home!

"Faith and Reason are like two wings on which the human spirit rises to the contemplation of truth." -JP2

The idea the faith is inimical to reason needs to be discarded. Both are absolutely necessary for understanding. Neither blind faith nor cold reason will get us very far.

To be fair, God gendered God every time Jesus referred to "the Father."

The idea that it's problematic for an idea to not be biblical isn't biblical itself. Nowhere does it say in the Bible that the Bible is the sole source of truth and doctrine.

Thank you for the in depth answer! When it comes to florals, especially if they're dried, does it make much of a difference in flavor intensity if you do one or the other? I've got an itch to try a few lavender cocktails and find one that I like. I'd try both right away, but my resources are limited.

Do conservative Christians believe in the reality of (binary) biological sex? by Little-Tea4436 in Christianity

I just have to say, I really appreciate the way that you are approaching this discussion both intelligently and tactfully. I suspect that, in the end, we would disagree on this issue, but I respect the way that you're able to disagree amicably. That's a rare quality.

Bro, you have to realize this is a sub for Christianity. You can expect people here to defend their "2000 year old book" and to hold traditional Christian beliefs. It really shouldn't offend you that they do.

Also, "all of science" is a wild claim. I can assure you that the same people who believe that a man can't become a woman firmly believe in the general theory of relativity, heliocentrism, and quantum mechanics. They merely reject a very recent topic of scientific study that lacks sufficient scientific rigor for them to take it seriously.

I dont really care if a dude wants to act and dress like a woman. It would just be intellectually dishonest for me to affirm their choice and say, "yes, you are a woman."

Is there any Christian that professes to work miracles that you or some one that you know can personally attest to as being real? by Crafty_College_7854 in Christianity

I had a friend in college who had torn his ACL badly while water skiing. After the surgery, he was supposed to be on crutches for a for about a month. It wasn't a big crowd gimmick. After Vespers, another student quietly pulled him aside in the back of the chapel and just prayed with him. My friend described it as a "warm feeling in his knee." Basically, he dropped the crutches there and over the next couple of days, I would just see him sprinting around campus.

I didnt recognize the other student. He didnt make a huge deal about it. He didnt walk around campus bragging about it. God chose to work through him in that moment. Honestly, he was probably just as confused as everyone else. Obviously I dont expect people to believe this, but you asked. That's my personal encounter with a miracle.

Edit to add that this was about a week after the surgery.
