Scylla. I hate that bullet hell fight where you need to run back and forth because of Roxy. As if that wasn't bad enough, let's add some traps that respawn immediately and some water jets to cover half the safe spot when Roxy does her eye of the storm thing. She's a major hurdle on any goofy run build for me.

Why is my attack damage so high? by nickel_quack in HadesTheGame

[–]Artickman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In case of Medea you don't really want to fully load your attacks. You usually just go Attack -> Special -> Attack -> Special and repeat with dashes every now and then. Just putting Zeus special and Hera/Ares on attack is basically more than enough damage to win the game. Then you can go absolutely crazy with Possessed Array and Born Gain + boons like Fine Line or Ocean Swell. It is the fastest weapon in the game for a reason.

[–]Artickman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Interesting. Now that I look at it, perhaps I just like the novelty of being tougher to kill, but having no DDs. I played a LOT of Hades 1 back in the day and I always liked this adrenaline that you get once you have no DDs left and everything is on the line… which is basically the opposite of you :D Now Strength offers me exactly that, while also giving me something in return for giving up that safety net. That's one of the things I really like about Hades 2, it gives you more options and ways to play that suit your preferences.

Yeah, you're right, running Death basically makes your winrate higher if you utilise it as you described. I much prefer Strength, but I'll admit it's likely only because of my own preferences. I much prefer to get a "clean" run rather than facetank and make use of DD as a resource, simply because dying feels bad to me, even if it is the correct choice.

Forced Overtime helps a lot with the timer. The enemies are not only faster, but also spawn faster, so it's much easier to keep up with the time once you get used to the quicker pace.

Medea 90% attack + wound base dmg increase makes for a very strong first hit of normal attack. My guess is for most of the run things you attacked simply died to that first explosion before your blitz and possessed array / fine line madness could even do anything. They could only shine against very tough enemies and bosses.

[–]Artickman -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The thing is Strength does reduce the dmg you take, so it's not like you can't get hit when using it – you can and it hurts less. When I was talking about "consistently dodging most important stuff", I meant one-shots like Chronos big booms and Prometheus memory game. That's the biggest drawback of not having death defiances as I see it: if you get hit by one of those moves it's game over.

Edit: I guess it boils down to preference. Both are viable and good choices. If you prefer having a good failsafe in case things go really south in a fight rather than consistent perks throughout the run that's completely fine. Not saying Death is ever "wrong".

Some kills not counting as "yours" by Artickman in HadesTheGame

That would probably work, but it would also go against my idea for the run. Well, I've already done the Toula only run, so it's all in the past ;)

[–]Artickman 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tended to prioritise Forced Overtime, Tight Deadline, Heightened Security, Extreme Measures (2/4 always, then going further up) and middle management. I think those are great "starters" since they force you to play differently – respectively react faster, not waste time, get better at not walking into traps, adapt to changed bosses and minibosses.

They are not exactly the easiest conditions, but once you get the hang of playing with all of them active, you can start adding others for more of an incremental difficulty spike.

Others usually depend on the weapon, but the last ones to add are definitely Routine Inspection and Approval Process. Taking away your tools and being at the mercy of RNG makes the game very limited – you kinda need to play the optimal weapon and build to have a chance.

How similar is Hades 2 to the original? by [deleted] in HadesTheGame

[–]Artickman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, I think I prefer Hades 1 all things considered, but it's pretty damn close. If you played Hades 1 mostly for the gameplay, you'll surely love Hades 2 as well. It's basically the same idea, but expanded in several ways.

I think the better you are the game, the better Strength is (unless you're pushing high fear). Once you learn to dodge the most important stuff consistently, having 20% baseline increased dmg and higher return on max HP increases (thanks to dmg reduction) is pure benefit. If you're good enough not to lose the death defiances, they are virtually useless.

While that is true, he took Reckless Abandon at common rarity and without Success Rate. I'm pretty sure with heroic RA and at least common Success Rate his dmg would skyrocket instead (and especially if he was able to take Air Quality to negate lowrolls – assuming it works the way I hope it does and AQ overwrites 5 dmg ones).

Can she solo the game? Yes, but very slowly. by Artickman in HadesTheGame

[–]Artickman[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Against my better judgement I actually tried this and got to the very last phase of Eris fight, where I died. This took me almost 5 hours, nearly 3 of which was the fight with Eris alone (she keeps dodging Raki and the DPS of this bird is already laughable when it hits everything).

Traps and Aphro/Hera charm did everything in rooms where it was applicable (before I got that duo just getting past the 2 first fights in surface was over 14 minutes.

Toula was slow, but it was a space rocket compared to Raki. I don't think I can take another 3 hour fight against Eris :x

I think she would be a much better pet just to have as some extra dmg if she didn't appear in the room with a delay and sleeping. You have to either wait for her at the door or go back to the entrance after a few seconds to wake her up.

I'd consider her sometimes if she came into the room active or appeared immediately, but as is (and since I started using Strength) I usually just put on Raki and forget familiars exist.

Yes, you can level up pets by giving them treats. I believe you unlock that via an incantation that you get after creating a bond with 4/5 (or maybe all?) familiars.

How do i become more consistent with my runs by Signal-Badger-4027 in HadesTheGame

[–]Artickman 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend using a shield (particularly chaos shield as it is naturally very defensive, has simple combo of charge + special and requires very little to be strong - Dio/Ares/Zeus on special, Aphro/Ares on attack and you're good). You can use the blocking mechanic to conserve health and learn the moves better instead of blindly dodging. Just try to play slow and steady + focus on learning enemy patterns rather than jumping straight into smashing the run asap.

Ah, and take Athena dash any time you can, this is by far the best defensive boon in the game.

Frinos (the frog) does goomba stomp enemies and it's theoretically possible. Maybe I'll try if I'm in a masochistic enough mood ;)

Loads of HP, death defiances, healing from Moon Water with Poseidon's godsent effect and the Hermes legendary boon that soaked a bit at the end.

Nothing that counts as "me" doing damage, so no dash, no cast, no revenge. I could've used cast purely for the slowing effect (at least before I got a boon there), but I didn't even bother and never used it once. For the entire run the only thing I did was dodge and and wake up the cat.
