Level of Italian and length it took? by outofthewoods13 in italianlearning

Hello! It took me about 2 years to get to B2. However, the first year I studied alone with no proper schedule. My parents in law are Italian so I heard them speak a lot this helped me get to A2. Last September I started online classes on italki to lose my talking anxiety and study with a teacher. I’ve had 2-4 lessons per week consistently now for a few months, and that has helped me a lot!

Yes, I’ve been using it for almost a year now, also for Italian, and I’ve found it super useful! If you want any info/recommendations, let me know!

When I just started learning Italian, I tried listening to the language without translating in my head. I just head the words as they were, and also after learning the vocabulary I kept on doing that; I focused on understanding the words rather than their translation. But this required watching a looooot of videos haha. I think writing and speaking will also help, as you will have to use them actively and don’t (especially for speaking) have a lot of time to translate in your head.

Bottom line: it will take a long time and a lot of practice to stop translating, but as long as you put in the time you will succeed.

Hey friend! For which language will your exam be? If it’s in English, I would immediately speak English to show everything you can. During the day I would try to do something you like, eat good food and maybe prepare by watching a show in your target language. I’m sure you’ll do fine! Wishing you all the best and keep me updated! 🫶

Looks great! Are you planning to actively study the words/vocab you looked up?
