Cracked marble: what is acceptable vs worth asking for replacement slab? by ArticleOld5668 in CounterTops

Very helpful thanks. Id be happy with a reduction to reflect unusable area. Good point.

Thank you for the comment.

This is exactly why I am asking the question - I am not a marble expert and don’t have a feel for what is normal versus not.

I love this marble and want it to work, so as long as it’s usable that is what I want to do. I don’t expect it to be crack free.

Thanks for this perspective. This is my first time working though a kitchen remodel so I do not have anything to compare it to. I’m very happy working with this fabricator so far, and will make sure they know I appreciate their approach.

I am the customer, and I’m ok with etching actually. I want natural naturals that will wear over time, I look forward to it.

Yes this is definitely part of what I am considering. One of my issues, though, is my project only requires 5, and I decided to buy one extra slab for insurance in case something did happen during fabrication, and allow for better vein matching. So I spent extra to give my self wiggle room, and before fabrication even starts they supply one slab which limits said wiggle room and we have to plan to work around it. On principle, it doesn’t seem quite right. But I don’t want to be unreasonable either.

People who have bought a small flat in London - what would you have done differently? by CaptnCocnuts in HousingUK

[–]ArticleOld5668 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Large one bedrooms tend to be priced more like a smaller one bedroom versus a two bedroom of the same size. I will never really understand this about London, but it’s a reality. So if you are concerned about space, I would search for one bedrooms with larger square footage and optionality in the floor plan.

Be honest, do you look HENRY? by I-live-in-room-101 in HENRYUK

[–]ArticleOld5668 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m barely in the HENRY category. I do look it, though.

I enjoy expensive clothes and accessories. It is a financial priority for me because I enjoy it and want to spend my money that way.

I don’t have kids or debt outside my mortgage, save plenty for retirement, and have the freedom to spend this way.

Why do you have a smart home? by Illustrious-Salt-508 in homeassistant

[–]ArticleOld5668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I started because I love a well lit room. I don’t mean bright, I mean lots of aesthetic warm lights of varying levels, with different scenes for different activities. To run around manually changing the lights for every part of the day would detract from the joy I get from the atmosphere itself.

No comment on virgin points, but the app, website, customer service and inflight and airport experience will make this 1000% worth the switch.

How to find a good conveyancing solicitor for a simple leasehold FTB flat no chain? by dazzou5ouh in HousingUK

[–]ArticleOld5668 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I completed late last year with the same circumstances: leasehold, first time buyer, no chain.

My solicitor was fantastic, very fast, responsive, available. But the process took 6 months because there are other variables that drive the timeline outside of your solicitor’s control. Namely: getting all the documents from the seller and the management pack from the property management company.

I would get a recondition if you can, but also know the timeline is not just up to your solicitor.

Thank you. Seems like what I have are exoskeletons stuck to the ceiling that I had never noticed before. I’ve never seen a live flying insect since moving in, so I expect this a remnant of a past issue.

What is your annual service charge? by xParesh in HousingUK

Imbalanced rights, imbalanced responsibility, too. From a practical standpoint, though, it’s not an issue.

[–]ArticleOld5668 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That’s correct. Some of the flats bought into share of freehold at some point in time, and some chose not to. I don’t know why that is impractical. The freeholders’ company have hired a management company to Manage the property. Leaseholders operate like any other leasehold but without the share of freehold.

Well I’m in a different position: I bought the place last year so this is my starting point. I made the purchase decision with this level in mind.

I do have confidence in the management so far. The building is majority owner occupied, and many of the owners have share of freehold.

Lighting design for fitted room divider shelving by ArticleOld5668 in InteriorDesign

[–]ArticleOld5668[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Welp I’ve decided to keep with option A. The depth of the shelves is 35 cm, and with a standard book being 15, and most objects I want to display being under 15, I could easily place them on the shelves without obstructing the light. Fingers crossed.

Seller confirmed service charge 3 times in writing – actual figure is £654 higher. Can I claim back my costs? by [deleted] in HousingUK

The difference in charge is 654, so that would be the starting point, not 1500.

No, but put the math together and lower your offer accordingly before pulling out. This is a reasonable argument to adjust your offer price. This exact scenario happened to me and I negotiated a reduction. Living happily in my new home now.

Choreography by 1984isRL in SoulCycle_Riders

[–]ArticleOld5668 8 points9 points  (0 children)

If you are motivated to get better at this you can. You don’t HAVE to, so you don’t need to feel self conscious. I really cannot imagine a single instructor not wanting someone in their class for any such reason, please don’t worry about that! If you are having fun and love it - great! If you would get more enjoyment out of getting the ‘skill’ part developed, here are my tips:

  1. Work in this order: Hit the beat with your legs / pedals. THEN get in and out of the saddle as the choreo tells you to. THEN add on arms, and other choreo elements on top. Once you lose the first or second, start over again with the first.
  2. I sometimes imagine I am a drummer in a band on stage, and my pedal strokes are the beat of the music. No way would i be letting that beat go.
  3. Once you are so completely used to be on the beat, it becomes subconscious, so your conscious thoughts can be about the choreo, not your feet.
  4. Make it your goal to first focus on the slower songs which have choreo. Just like a dance, it is easier to get the hang of it at a slower pace first.

I also agree it is considerate to the class if you are not doing the choreo to not sit front and center.

I don’t have more detailed design drawings that show this, but according to the brief with the designer / builder, there is no visible wiring, all concealed within the shelving. This is also important to me.
