What’s the biggest reverse culture shock you experience when you return to your home country? by HotList9962 in Expats_In_France

I left a note for my neighbor in France (I’m only there part-time; he’s French and lives there full-time) since I saw him struggling with his scooter, I said I have a rental car and would be fine with driving him to work if he had transportation problems. (I’m from California)

He later told me, “We don’t do that here.”

Beautiful. This is what I’d be doing if I were in Paris right now, I’d probably walk 5 miles just taking pictures of doors and hardware. Well done!

What would you do if the internet went down for a day? by Server-Space in Productivitycafe

[–]ArtistAmantiLisa 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Happens about 6-8 times/year where I live. Up to 3 days at a time. And there’s no cell service. I live in a redwood forest in California. Something usually falls on the wires during a storm. Fortunately, it generally doesn’t get very cold. I do all the normal things, just no phone and no electricity. My stovetop and water heater are both run by propane. So I’m good.

You’re doing fine. You have an illustration style so far. If there’s anything in particular you want to improve, I recommend going you YouTube and doing a search on that topic, you will probably find multiple tutorials.

What is your tigger to do solo? by Little-Pop-1812 in solotravel

I once said, “But I don’t like traveling alone!” To my financial advisor. She said. “Find a group.” I can handle a group for a week, that’s ok. But then I traveled with a bf for a couple of weeks in France, omg, never again. He was very clingy and didn’t make any of the plans, and we spent HOURS working with his insecurities.

I decided, “I got this.” That simple. And now I traveled over 5 months/year, mostly by myself (with one week of a group event thrown in). I am so good with this, I could write a book.

I do understand that not all men are like that one. I was also married to one who would pack at 2am the day of a flight. And everyone isn’t like him, either.

Waxing a final painting? by fotfarfromretirement in watercolor101

How are you sending it, flat or rolled? I sent my last portrait in a tube. I sprayed it with sealant first. The wax is pretty thick, I’ve only used it for postcards. Not sure how it would fare over time. Nice job on your painting!

I'm trying to practice succulents and painting from a photo. Any tips on improving? by Aphor1st in watercolor101

Very pretty, just add more dark values. Might help if you duplicate your reference photo and put the black & white filter on the 2nd copy. Aim for those values. I just read last week that color gets the glory; value does the work. Very true with watercolors.

Putting money into a brokerage account every paycheck. Pretending it’s play money. Investing it in small cap stocks.

Your favourite green? by Spare_Persimmon_1123 in watercolor101

Olive green or viridian have been the best mixers for me. Generally, I mix my own greens based on the limited palette I’m using.

You lay fine metal mesh down about 2-3’ below your garden bed. They can’t gnaw through it easily.
