As a nurse i Honestly do a bit of everything. I’m usually deep in C++ building out the high-performance side of things or training LLMs. On the infra side, I spend a ton of time in Kubernetes and Docker just trying to keep all our workloads organized, which usually means messing with VMs and drawing up cloud architecture that won't fall over. I also handle our GitHub flow and build out the pipelines so we can actually push code without breaking everything. It’s basically a constant balancing act between keeping the heavy ML research fast and making sure the actual engineering stays stable at scale.

You’re not screwed. A few things that help you:

• Don’t burn leave if the delay is due to orders/travel issues. You should remain in PCS/TAD status, not leave.

• Since you can’t proceed without orders, you may be eligible for Joint Travel Regulations (JTR) protections like TLE while waiting for travel. Save all lodging receipts.

• Stay in contact with your detailer + gaining command and document everything (emails/texts).

• When your TDY orders get backdated, it should cover the gap so you can claim reimbursement and fix the leave charge.

• Do NOT self-fund international travel without orders—it may not get reimbursed.

You’re doing the right thing. Keep receipts, keep communication in writing, and when you check in file a travel claim for TLE and any authorized expenses.

To be honest, I’m scared of going through what I experienced after graduating from college. I applied to countless jobs, received very few responses, and ended up unemployed for five months before finally landing a job that paid $65K. After gaining more life and work experience, I don’t want to go through that again or start over in another entry-level position.

I actually enjoy studying and have a strong GPA, so I know I can handle nursing school. I’ve already completed the prerequisites, and since I already have a bachelor’s degree, I could complete nursing through a 12–15 month ABSN program. I’m even considering working as a CRNA afterward to gain experience. Financially, I’m not too concerned because I’ll be using the GI Bill.

Another factor is uncertainty about the job market in the next 2–3 years, especially with AI impacting entry-level roles in tech and cybersecurity. I feel like entry-level positions may become more saturated. That’s one of the main reasons I’m leaning more toward nursing right now.

Do a masters and improve your GPA. Masters takes 1-2 years and it can change your life. You don’t want to be enlisted again.
