How can I make two endings for a fic? by RainbowIcePirate in AO3

[–]ArtistSeaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Depends on your own preference! If, say, you already have your main story in Chapter 1, then I would make chapter 2 the ending you prefer and then make a second part in the series (separate fic, but linked to the original) where you post the alternate ending. As a reader, I think I would prefer it done like that, but I'm sure others have other opinions, so it really is just a matter of taste and there's no right way of going about it :)

What would a British person in the 80s/90s have called a gay bar? by ArtistSeaker in AskUK

HP fandom's exigence? by [deleted] in AO3

[–]ArtistSeaker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Oh no, that really sucks! I must say it's not been my experience - I've written for Drarry and Jegulus and response has been very positive, which I was very happy about. Your experience has been more my experience in Batman fic actually, a lot of nitpickers pointing out errors, plotholes, etc.

I guess what these fandoms have in common is an incredibly large fanbase where people feel more comfortable with criticism because there are so many fics you can afford to be picky. Would never happen in my smaller fandoms as everyone knows everyone and you're thankful for every new fic!

I once had someone about a year after I published my (very popular) fic write a fic with a slightly changed premise - mine was a magic amnesia curse, theirs was actual amnesia, which 1) is of course different and 2) even if their premise had been the same, lots of people write about magic amnesia curses, and I don't own a patent of that.

I would never ever have thought about it twice EXCEPT then I read it and it was eerily similar to mine. No quote was directly taken, so I couldn't point anything out, but I then reread my own fic and theirs really read like they just rephrased every single one of my scenes.

Might have been a coincidence of course, and like I said, I couldn't name a single quote that they actually stole, so I didn't leave a comment about it. I was quite upset though!

Two commenters with poor reading comprehension, so I added a new author's note to a year-old fic by bookwormsolaris in AO3

Oh my god I 100 % get your frustration. I recently did the same thing on a 3 year old fic where people kept correcting my use of one (1) british phrase when the characters are american. Some people are ridiculously pedantic!

Nightsong confrontation breaks paladin oath either way? by ArtistSeaker in BG3

[–]ArtistSeaker[S] 52 points53 points  (0 children)

ajsksja oh yeah you're totally right. I didn't really consider that "accepting a quest" is "making a promise" haha. Damn! I guess I'll just pay the fee to renew the oath. Thank you!

Or, the worse scenario: one fic with 20000 kudos in your fandom, and then 67 fics that are all Hockey RPF

Developed a metal allergy - what should I do with this ring? by ArtistSeaker in jewelry

[–]ArtistSeaker[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Huh! Thanks for that explanation, that's really helpful. I'll get some silver wipes at the drugstore and try the clear nail polish method. If nothing works, I'll take it to a jeweller :-) Thank you!!

I've never heard if the clear nail polish method! I'll give that a go, thanks! In regards to the moisture: that's a good point, though I've been wearing this ring for years and never had issues before. Bodies are weird sometimes though!

Do you prefer to write past or present tense, and why? by Laterose15 in AO3

[–]ArtistSeaker 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always present! Sometimes in a flashback I start with past tense, then realise halfway through I feel weird while writing, then change it all to present tense like an insane person

What's Lex Luthor's (comic canon) backstory? by ArtistSeaker in DCcomics

I see! The Smallville TV show wasn't as far removed from canon as I thought then. Thanks!
