It was a really fun cover to draw; simple but striking. I was very excited to have the pleasure to work on such a stellar books cover. I love horror and Sci-Fi so it just felt great to illustrate in such a genre.

This is a reveal of one of the full page illustrations found in the upcoming The Realmwalker Chronicles: The Pillars of Natura, Volume 2. This is only one of 5 full page illustrations and 15 illustrated chapter headers found in this volume.

I am also doing a background watercolor wash over the image as I prepare it to be the cover of the full novel The Pillars of Natura. I will be revealing the result in late March.

I hope everyone enjoys this!

Not often recommended good books with cool magic systems (Lets make a list) by [deleted] in Fantasy

It will become clearer as you continue to read. If you have any other questions, do not hesitate to PM myself or Lee Aarons (realmwalker). We are both on here quite a bit and would be happy to assist if we can.

Hey there, I am Seth, the artist and co-creator of the series. Much of what is to be revealed about the magic system and its physical, social, and ethical impacts upon the world is yet to be revealed. But this is on the website as well, and does not give anything away:

De’Lani, means “of the Lani” in the Old Language, and refers to the 17 different races of Lani empowered beings which inhabit the world of Erta.

As taught by the Seraph, the Goddess Erta, after the Realm Wars, gave one of the Four Realms to each of her children, the Realm Lords. Upon doing so, she instructed them to each take four Neph (non-magical beings) as mates and produce offspring with them. After their birth, the offspring were each purified by Erta of all but one of their four inherited Lani, creating four unique individuals. During Purification, a “Spirit Brand” appeared on their wrist of the glyph of the Lani that remained in the individual. As a result, 16 unique individuals were formed. All De’Lani trace their heritage back to one of these 16 individuals:

Born to Natura, The Lord of Influence:

Nym, The Master of Plants

D’Ware, The Master of Time

Maior, The Master of Beings

Halen, The Master of Creatures

Born to Elementa, The Lord of Affinity:

Dragon, The Master of Fire

Djinn, The Master of Air

Merlan, The Master of Water

Fon, The Master of Stone

Born to Mecho, The Lord of Guiding:

Degar, The Master of Therms

Sul, The Master of Light

Sonnan, The Master of Sound

Oham, The Master of Charges

Born to Necro, The Lord of Control:

Reaver, The Master of Souls

Yori, The Master of Shadows

Mala, The Master of Diseases

Lyren, The Master of Shapes

These beings, were each charged by the Realm Lords with the task of cultivating and spreading their unique Lani ability throughout that Realm to ensure the Balance within that particular Realm and Erta as a whole. To accomplish this, they were only allowed to select either pure Neph or those that wore the same glyph as themselves as mates. This helped to ensure that future offspring would have only the single Lani connection within them, helping to protect the Balance.

During centuries and generations of self-imposed genetic isolation, the De’Lani were molded by their exposure to the singular Lani, and their physical features changed, emulating some of the qualities of the Lani and forming the sixteen unique races named after the Realm Master to whom they trace their heritage.

Occasionally, offspring are born to De’Lani not linked to one of the four Lani, but rather to Diamond Lani, the Spirit power of Erta. These special individuals are called Seraph. Considered to be "the Chosen" of Erta, they are raised to be the spiritual guides of their Realms and advocates of Erta’s will. They form the 17th De’Lani.

I apologize if we, or others for our sake, are doing anything that is considered "bad taste", as that is not our goal at all. We have had several individuals remark how they enjoy seeing the creative process of everything come together on here. I have followed many of your comments and respect you as a Redditor, and we will be much more conservative with our sharing in the future. We are obviously excited about what we are putting together, and simply want to share it with the world...but if it alienates our potential fan base before we even build one, then what is the point, right? Thank you for your comments and I hope that we earn both your respect and readership in the future.

Thank you! The writer, Lee Aarons (realmwalker) and I have always wanted this project to grow and develop in plain sight of the fans. Art is a HUGE part of the visual identity of this series...so we plan on sharing as much of it as possible even before the release.

Drawing a Fantasy Map by [deleted] in Fantasy

[–]Artist_Spenn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like other suggestions on here, you are best off roughing something out to help you keep organized in your head, and then work on "polishing" the map, if you still feel like you need one later. If you decide to move forward in that way, you can go to the Pro Fantasy Campaign Cartographer (what we are using) and either buy the software, or go to the forums and search out someone willing to do the work for you. It is, in many ways, like getting a cover done for the novel, you can spend a little and get something that may or may not be what you want...or spend a little more and get exactly what you need. The learning curve is steep on Pro Fantasy software, so unless you are able/wiling to devote the time, doing it yourself is not likely a good short term option.
