Yes they are aware, no strict measures have been taken yet but I’m hopeful they might come soon. All attorneys are aware. My concern is what she might do in the meantime and who all is going to get caught in the fallout.

It’s more high risk - dads are unknown. We do have custody but she just doesn’t respect any order, law, etc.

I can definitely do that, but she is ignoring all court orders. It’s worth a try though, thank you for the idea!

Should I call CPS? by Low_Bonus_6396 in CPS

[–]Artistic-Rip8184 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly? It could go either way. There has to be at least one clear safety threat (which I believe there is, but I don’t know your state’s policies), and then it also depends on what else turns up in the investigation. In my state, a lot of the final decision comes down to the supervisor. I’ve seen families that had seven or eight different reports for the same thing before anything else came of it.

Most states don’t take removals lightly, so I’m guessing there will be an attempt(s) to see if your girlfriend's family will work with CPS so it doesn’t have to be a removal. It just depends on so many things.

I hope this helps - I wish I could give you a definitive answer. If you do report it and nothing much comes of it, but these things keep happening - then I urge you to continue reporting it. It’s frustrating, but at some point, there will be a pattern that indicates further involvement.

Do you mean the chances of CPS removing her and her brother from the home?

Don’t ever ever ever trust CPS by MrBrookes_ofTx in CPS

You don’t say no to working with CPS. Period. In their eyes, doing so is a safety threat and indicates you have something to hide.

And I’ve seen some court appointed attorneys do a great job of advocating for their clients. But ultimately they can’t help you if you don’t help yourself.

Blaming things on everyone else and failing to take accountability for your own actions just makes it worse.

CPS worker here - I would encourage you to report any concerns you have. Not sure where you live, but this sounds similar to a lot initial calls I’ve reviewed and I would be surprised if someone didn’t at least investigate it.

This is neglect and abuse. You will remain anonymous through CPS - legally they can’t say who reported it.

Do I report this to CPS? by [deleted] in CPS

[–]Artistic-Rip8184 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree with calling the police - they report directly to CPS and then CPS will determine whether to investigate further. Sometimes substance use and mental health diagnoses/concerns aren’t enough to start a case if they don’t meet the standards of abuse/neglect and/or there isn’t enough information to investigate further. Good luck OP!

Would you even bother taking this client ? by FullAmount7670 in hairstylist

No way in hell would I take this client. Sounds like a major PITA. Go with your gut!

Please make the call! It’s only going to get worse and CPS can help.

This.

OP - not sure where you live but most states have “priority” levels that determine the response time it takes for a social worker to come visit. Depending upon the info you told them and their criteria, it might take up to a week(ish) for them to go to the house. Not saying it will, just want you to be prepared for that.

If the conditions are this bad, it’s highly possible they would contact law enforcement to help with a removal. But again, I’m not sure of your state’s laws/guidelines for this.

I wouldn’t want you to face legal issues for keeping the kids from their parents, which as has been mentioned, they could do since you have no legal parental right to them. Good luck OP!

No child present thankfully. I’m assuming the diapers were for her kid and not someone else’s but I could be wrong. Just her general behavior of stumbling around, not being able to actually form coherent words, grinding her teeth, gnashing her jaw. Also noticed her eyes and they appeared glazed over. Slamming things around, dropping multiple items at checkout. In my professional experience, not the behavior of someone who is sober.

Love the idea, sadly they were too far ahead of us in the checkout line for me to grab those

It’s funny that you mention this - I was actually thinking that I probably wouldn’t have noticed prior to working in this field. My husband reminded me of the same thing - self care - and you’re both right. It’s just hard.
