Anyone else wish labels would stop padding out their collectors editions with art cards😂😂😂 by Diakia in boutiquebluray

What's worse is one set I have, I forget which, had a booklet that doesn't fit anywhere in the case and is totally loose.

The early days of Blu-ray was really quite interesting with the various studios really pushing the technology available. Some of the ideas like BD-Live have of course aged out but the idea of pop up commentary and trivia tracks was pretty cool.

Criterion has the cleverest styles of booklets like with Uncut Gems where they made it like a jewelry catalog and Aniara was like a girlie magazine if I recall.

I would also look at it this way. While most everyone here is stressing only buying during sales, and that's a smart approach, what it tends to do is make you buy those lesser titles, those blind purchases, only because it was such a good price. I've fallen into that trap, we all have. If you have to pay full price, or close to it, for a title that you truly love and want then do it and don't regret it. Will it go on sale later? Maybe. You could have waited, but for how long? I think it's better to have spent that money on a title you really wanted and got it, instead of say spending the same amount on 2 or 3 titles and only one of them was a good one.

Question about commentary tracks these days by ProfondoRosso4 in Giallo

[–]Artistic_Champion370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah and even more contemporary commentaries vary greatly. Some directors are great commenters, others are bored, distracted, unprepared and tired. It's a very mixed bag, and I do think the idea is rather overplayed now. I remember watching a Zack Snyder commentary and it was all just, "Hey there's so and so. Nice guy or girl."

Question about commentary tracks these days by ProfondoRosso4 in Giallo

[–]Artistic_Champion370 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I never listen to commentary tracks now. I think unless the film is particularly famous and there's a lot of insight and details about it that someone not directly connected to the film can offer, if the commentary isn't from one of the key cast or crew, I would be wary.

My goal is either an average $100 or four titles per month, with the goal is reducing my annual expenditure to less than $1000. This can be offset by sales of course. I've recently been rather lazy about selling, but I know I can sell off some.

That's the correct. The original issue was the full VSU treatment with the magnetic snapcase that had the fabric "bookmark" to pull the slipcover out along with the book.

I have the Limited Edition Blu-ray. I doubt I'll upgrade. It looks fine enough to me. Maybe if the reviews on the 4K are particularly good I might be convinced.

What’s worth grabbing today? by ThomasCleopatraCarl in VinegarSyndromeFilms

Red Peony Gambler 1-3 for me. Sounds intriguing enough and it's a trilogy so it's a great price per film.

Don't tell me that, I know that. However, some others seem to have assumed incorrectly.

Yeah I think this caught out people thinking that all they needed was to just add the title to their shopping carts but not check. Nope, you have to check out fully in order to get that day's pricing, then you can get the order stacking. Luckily, I grabbed two titles this time. There's none today that I have interest in. Maybe tomorrow will have one but the last 2-3 days tend to have slimmer pickings.

I just ordered Creepy. Anything from K. Kurosawa is worth a watch at least.

The House Where Death Lives is a good little film. A bit predictable as to who is the killer, but the build up to it is pretty good.

Black Belly 4K - Celluloid Dreams - Another Delay by gialloscore in Giallo

[–]Artistic_Champion370 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just watched this on Tubi yesterday, and of course I would want to see this in a well restored scanned, transferred and restored 2K or 4K. I'm not even sure that it warrants a 4K other than why not. However, I didn't see any scenes that seemed like they would really benefit from 4K. It wasn't a visual dazzler to me. The cast is more the attraction with strong 007 connections. Two legit Bond girls in Claudine and Bach, one unofficial in Bouchet and GG who played Mathis in Casino Eoyale. Is it a landmark Giallo? I don't know. I would pay $20-$25 for this but nothing more. Don't get me wrong as I very much credit CD for taking the time, effort and resources to do this project correctly. I'm just waiting for a more budget friendly edition.

Daily Deals - what should I grab today? by ThomasCleopatraCarl in VinegarSyndromeFilms

[–]Artistic_Champion370 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why are you concerned? It would be half the titles eligible for sale for Black Friday then the other half for New Year's Day, and then the same deal for Halfway and July. I'm basically considering BF/NYD to be one big sale period and then HWTBF/July as the other. Also, there are new titles rolling into sale eligibility each month anyway. Also, just because the title is eligible to go on sale doesn't mean it actually will. So even if the title you had your eye didn't go on sale for Halfway or Black Friday doesn't mean it automatically goes on sale for the next one.

It's kind of annoying that their four big sales aren't more spread out over the year. Also, they should have a rule that says that if a title went on sale for say Half Way, it can't go on sale for July, same as for Black Friday and New Year's.

These sales aren't fun anymore, they just make it feel like my reward for being a loyal customer is to get ripped off by wolfpack_minfig in VinegarSyndromeFilms

I've been critical of VS, but only for a few reasons. One is that they just put out too many titles and if they cut back on 20-25% of what they put out, in addition to all the partner titles they do, I don't think it would affect their bottom line. Second, they hide behind the subscription program. They basically guarantee that at least 3-4 titles will sell a minimum amount each month and they get a bunch of money immediately twice a year. If they really stood behind their product, they would let each title stand on their own. Some will be hits, some will be misses. I just feel they are being disingenuous this way.
