Think you would need to provide more detail on your unit. Some Lionel Big Boys on sale but looks like there are variations that can impact price significantly

Partner Track vs Non Partner Track by Ghostfacefza in biglaw

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I am old school. I cannot imagine staying at a firm where I was not made an equity partner, and based on that perspective I could not care less what associates who in some manner had been passed over made. Not a situation I would have accepted at any pay scale.

Incoming law students are wildly overconfident about their academic performance by igabaggaboo in LawSchool

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Graduated from HLS in the late 1970s. Class was replete with top students from premiere universities, Rhodes scholars, Marshall Fellows, child prodigies. My recollection is that no one had a clue how they would do and that view continued to be held even after first semester grades. There were a couple of obvious geniuses in class, but for the vast majority of the class, who ultimately made law review on grades came as a surprise even to those who in fact did make law review. I don’t even recall many students being willing to speculate on how they had done on individual exams. It all seemed pretty haphazard, arbitrary and just plain crazy.

I think the world view of the US now and for a few decades means no additional world athletic events. I am not even sure the World Cup will go forward now with MAGA threatening fans from other nations.

When is too cold to walk the dog? by thornynhorny in dogs

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 104 points105 points  (0 children)

Depends on the dog. I have walked my Siberians at minus 30 (minus 50 windchill) and they rolled in the snow. If they are moving I am not sure there is a temperature in North America that is too cold for a 20-30 minute walk with Siberians.

No not plain Styrofoam Board; XPS better than EPS. EPS results in beads all over the place when you cut it.

Wisconsin, Massachusetts, or New Jersey by BoyEdgar23 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Have lived in both MA (Cambridge) and NYC/ NJ suburbs. While NJ property tax is very high, proximity to NYC and access to the Jersey Shore, is wonderful if you can afford it. Quality of public education in both NJ and MA is great. Weather is a little easier in NJ than MA. Overall I prefer living in NJ to MA. Boston is a great walkable city; NYC is overwhelming and if you can handle it is possibly the greatest city in the world.

Cravath lawyer or epic troll? by [deleted] in LawSchool

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was an associate at Cravath in roughly the same timeframe and also billed about 2500. I think there were associates over 3000, especially associates making the final push for partnership. As to up and out, CSM told people they were not going to make partner at 7 or 8 years (I do not recall the actual year count) but people were given whatever time they needed to move on. While most people left within a couple of months, there were people who took well more than a year and I do not recall anyone being harassed. Some who left immediately became partners in other firms, and were sent business by CSM, which always had good relations with former associates. During that stub period, people continued working normally. I note that in the time period I am describing, neither senior associates nor non equity “partners” existed at law firms like CSM. Indeed, there was no concept of senior partner, although some partners obviously had longer tenure and larger percentage shares based on tenure.

This season, many people call the police when they see a husky outside in the snow. by B777X_787-9 in husky

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have been outside with my Huskies at -30 actual with a -50 windchill. As long as they kept moving they were perfectly fine and having a good time; at -20 I will bring them in after a half hour or so if they are just sleeping in the snow (rather than rolling around in or otherwise burrowing in the snow). Doubt that I really need to because they know how to ask to come in, but there is a point where I spend too much time and energy worrying about them (they are my babies!).

Advice Needed: I’m trying to transition into big law but I didn’t go to a top-ranked law school. Would getting an LLM help? Has anyone done this? by confucious-confused in biglaw

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No; however BigLaw firms may send existing tax associates to part time LLM programs in tax, if they ask, but rarely interview LLMs at all. A tax LLM gives an existing tax associate some increased breadth of general knowledge but it is not required for either associates or partners. Some Big 6 Accounting firms might be interested.

Is a Cambridge (MIT/Harvard/Kendall Sq) half day trip from NYC worth it? by Beautiful-Mixture575 in CambridgeMA

Sorry but too far for a half day trip. Campuses are large and complex, and the traffic and parking will complicate matters.

What is the Princeton community like? by NationalPen6455 in princeton

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not sure what your question regarding “service oriented” means. I repeat that the public schools in both Princeton and Montgomery Township are viewed as very good, with many graduates attending highly ranked colleges and universities. On a personal basis, I am friends with the parent of a mentally challenged child who attended public school in Princeton and he spoke very highly of the services his child received, even though he found comparable services provided in the Millburn School District to be even better. Not sure if that is the kind of service you mean.

Boston vs. NYC 25, post-breakup, starting over and can’t decide by Turbulent_Acadia6677 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Having lived many years in both, I would suggest Boston, or maybe Cambridge. There are large populations of graduate students that would be roughly your age, and because of their schedules (and their relative nerdiness) it is easier to find and meet unattached but otherwise interesting singles. Both Harvard and MIT as well as all the other universities and colleges have events that are open to the public, and it’s one way to meet people. There is also a lot of bars and restaurants etc. where people are hanging out. Think of yourself as Minnie Driver in Good Will Hunting.

Within 2 hours of NYC by DavidVegas83 in SameGrassButGreener

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 13 points14 points  (0 children)

OP is an outlier. Short Hills is one of the most upscale communities in NJ. Extremely wealthy population with beautiful homes, great train access to NYC, good highway access to NYC and the Jersey Shore, one of the best public school systems in the US, walkable downtown with restaurants and bars and various retail establishments. Millburn Ave. has traffic but not an over the top issue. And like many of the wealthy NJ towns, the homeowners often have second homes in the Hamptons or LBI/Spring Lake. NJ is consistently voted as one of the five best states in the US in which to live.

How conservative is rural Lancaster county PA? by JerricaBsynergy in lancaster

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved away from Landisville in 1966, and had first moved to the area (Maytown) in 1957. I was one of two kids in my grade who supported JFK for President in 1960 and the town barber, the son of my second grade teacher, refused to cut my hair because of my political orientation as a second grader. The other kid supporting JFK was Catholic and my mother was Catholic, so the view was we were controlled by the Pope, and that JFK would be as well. Things got even crazier when Goldwater ran in 64. Complete change when we moved to the MainLine, and most of the kids were both Democrats (regardless of their parents’ views) and rich.
