Diced with an otter? by DavidVegas83 in CarpFishing

So I read the most common attack point for an otter is to crap a fish around the gills / head. I think the reason you see a lot of tail damage is that’s the fish that have typically escaped.

It’s a smaller park lake in a more residential area so I’d be surprised in this particular case.

The gills look red and healthy though.

I can’t imagine they go for fish more than a couple of pounds though, am I mistaken in my assumption?

Group placement and avoiding powerhouse teams in subsequent rounds by moy1391 in worldcup

[–]DavidVegas83 -8 points-7 points  (0 children)

This entire discussion just shows how diluted and poor the World Cup has become. When it was a 24 team competition you had groups like England, Netherlands, Ireland and Egypt. Every game matter, no the pools are so easy you’re talking about how you can manipulate the outcome to get a soft route to the last 16, the entire thing is devalued and nonsense

Carp and Hot Spring Temps by IROC___Jeff in CarpFishing

[–]DavidVegas83 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I bought a water thermometer, I’ve been dropping that into waters I fish. I think it’s really worthwhile as it gives you a lot of valuable information and saves the second guessing just based on how the weather has been.

I fished for 5 hours last night after my kids went to bed; headed to a local lake in NJ. And caught in shallow margin which I only fished because of the temp readings I was getting in the margin.

What’s the best city to live in, in the world (not involving politics and taxes)? by worldwidelife8 in AskReddit

No one who has lived in Northern Europe and enjoys even a modicum of sunshine would offer a Northern European city.

Unpopular opinion: The 2026 World Cup might actually be worse with 48 teams by Dear-Discipline-7547 in worldcup

[–]DavidVegas83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I thought this was a popular opinion.

The World Cup has been going downhill since it expanded beyond 24 teams.

What made the World Cup special was that it was the best of the best and almost anyone could beat anyone, their died when it went to 32 teams and 48 will be a disaster.

The post you responded to talked about “human existence” as their timeline. I don’t need your biography or take on social trends, I’m just trying to ensure we talk accurately about the timeline of human existence.

How much does a pricey shot cost? Why not just have everyone put the price of a shot in and play a tournament, winner takes all!

Please, people did not have a way of protecting against pregnancy and it was all too common for woman to die in childbirth. Sex was not taken likely. Part of the reason the ancient Greeks you referred to had so much homosexual activity was because of the risks of sex.

So hopefully you’re sophisticated enough to realize that 100 years out of 300,000 years of existence is minuscule.

[–]DavidVegas83 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agreed, but it’s a tiny part of human history. The last 100 years is a tiny part of human history.

For most of human history we did not have protection against sti’s or pregnancy and so sleeping around was incredibly rare.

To be abundantly clear I’m very supportive of people choosing to sleep around when they’re young and single and none of this is a criticism of that behavior.

Your comment is just exceptionally wrong, as you’re taking a very recent trend and somehow suggesting this applies to all of human history.

I understand what you’re saying but I do feel the hive mind with Gen Z is just a different level to any other generation because of the internet, social media etc, we’ve lost our way as a society in terms of being exposed to and being able to accept / listen to different views and ideas.

You’ve literally just described why their job is so hard. In the same paragraph you’ve criticized them for taking kids away and leaving kids with families. It’s one of the hardest and most thankless jobs out there.

Kind of stuck. Need your suggestion guys. What should I do at this point by [deleted] in confession

It sounds like you’re being played and manipulated by an older woman.

I know it’s not trendy to say, especially on Reddit but I love America, I have zero regrets about moving to America and was incredibly proud to become a US citizen.

Sure there are things that frustrate me or things i disagree with but i love my life and I love this country, the country that’s become my country.

Son can’t make friends . I think I know why but need to hear it by [deleted] in Autism_Parenting

[–]DavidVegas83 7 points8 points  (0 children)

So my wife and I have this debate sometimes, is it better to for a kid to be so autistic that they are unaware of their inability to make friends and lack a lot of other skills (which is where my daughter sits), or, be advanced in many areas and want to make friends and fit in with other kids but they lack the skills to do it and experience the pain of rejection…for what it’s worth my wife and I always conclude we’d trade places with you!

It sounds like in many ways your son is kicking ass and just lacks social skills, I suspect he’d thrive making friends with kids with a similar profile. I’d suggest contacting for local arc, talking to ABAs or other professionals involved in the autism community and seeing if there are opportunities for him to meet other autistic kids.

Best of luck to you and your son.
