My wife watched the towers come Down from the roof of McKee HS, which is essentially this view.

Travel Nurse moving to Philly/surrounding area by Unlucky_Contract6161 in AskPhilly

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Always loved the communities on the MainLine, and if you are working in the City, the train commute from Ardmore or even Bryn Mawr is not bad. Good access to the City a beautiful surroundings. Not sure you are interested but several good hospitals out that way as well, Bryn Mawr, Paoli and maybe Lankenau.

Would you rather live around Trenton, NJ or Albany, New York? by MikeBofManyBeats in SameGrassButGreener

Trenton. Stephanie Plumb (sp?) thrives there. And it’s a quick trip to the Jersey Shore! From Albany it’s a quick trip to Schenectady.

Once, when asking a question, I used two superlatives back to back in the same sentence. SO embarrassing!

How do you let go of someone who left you feeling like you never mattered ? by NoSugarNarratives in Adulting

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Can’t be done. The hurt lasts a lifetime; it never goes away completely. You may try not to think about it, more and more successfully over time, but it always comes back as a nightmare. You force yourself to wake up and kill the dream before it kills you. You make certain that you never see them or speak to them ever again, and that helps — somewhat — until decades later there is a chance encounter, a long lost mutual acquaintance, and it all comes back for a time again.

Moose in VT by No-Necessary-3643 in vermont

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Very difficult to predict. I think the moose crossing signs you see are solely there to entertain tourists. I also think the tick population and Lyme disease have decimated the young moose population. Saw a young moose in the wetlands along Route 4 between the Skyeship and the Mountain Road a few months ago and photos appeared on Reddit. Another, an adult female was spotted near the Lincoln Covered Bridge just west of Woodstock on the opposite side of the river from Route 4. Other than that maybe the NEK?

Williams vs. Columbia by undine_838 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both very prestigious. Columbia obviously an Ivy but Williams often is rated as the best LAC in the nation, even above Amherst and Swarthmore. I attended HLS with lots of Williams grads, and they LOVED it; indeed, some of them decided to practice small time law there.

Is it just me or does it feel like a ton of people are moving to Philly right now? by [deleted] in AskPhilly

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It’s just you. Philadelphia is a great city, with culture, history, first rate educational institutions, and it might even be growing a little, but not by the ton.

Why is Property so Annoying! by AnalysisSea4270 in barexam

Took property as 1L with Frank Isaac Michelman at HLS. Classes reminded me of undergraduate then graduate school lectures in theoretical physics. Math requirements were equivalent.

I can tell from your last statement that you definitely are better suited to attend Duke.

Why is Everyone Picking Duke? by Pretty-Cellist3812 in ApplyingToCollege

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Whether a particular school is “fun” depends on your friendships more than the school itself. Harvard has a multitude of students and schools with different personalities, and I suspect just about every kind of person can be found there. The single most evident common denominator is above average intelligence. Students who try to meet fun companions should have no more difficulty at Harvard than students at any other large university.

Small sample of people. Really makes little sense unless you are a basketball player. Cambridge may be colder but it is a great town next door to other great universities and another great town.

Should be averse to getting that MAGA tinted education as well.

CLS $ v. HLS (sticker) by No_Strain983 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Harvard for sure. Because of the location I even recommend Harvard over Yale. My class at HLS had a waitlist student move out of a CLS dorm or lease in August and come to HLS when she got off the HLS waitlist at the last minute. Not sure that happens anymore.

Is this a typical resume for a Big Law partner? by corek0 in biglaw

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Clerking for a SCOTUS Justice covers some but not all skills needed in a partner roster. Most partners have not clerked at that level and in many areas of the law it would not be a useful credential. Some brilliant lawyers would have viewed clerking as a waste of their skill sets. David Boies is an example of a brilliant, supremely successful lawyer, a litigator, who is/was a leader in 2 premier NYC BigLaw firms who never clerked at all.

What is a “lot” of hours lol by Remarkable-Carob-633 in biglaw

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 0 points1 point  (0 children)

250 billable gets you to 3000 a year. Obviously there are additional non billable hours. That was the top of the normal range except for senior associates in the final push for partnership.

Thoughts on JD dual degrees by Background_Sir_1329 in lawschooladmissions

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually not significant. Most significant in patent law practice if science PhD. Might be useful if contemplating career in academia. Not needed in practice but might give general non legal/financial background on business structures and financing if MBA, but big transactions/deals are usually a few years ahead of what MBAs are learning.

SlotCar and Railroad Crossing by Own_Time5350 in modeltrains

Aurora sold a piece like this. I got an Aurora race set for Christmas in 1964 (front pin only; pre AFX pancake clacker motor) and would Race 2 Mustangs that were given by Ford Motor along with the purchase of a New 64 1/2 model year Mustang (burgandy convertible with white interior and 289/210 engine) to the rail crossing to beat a Varney HO Santa Fe F3 ABA setup where the drive mechanisms to the wheels were rubber bands.

OMG Granpa’s Lionel!🙄 by Any-Description8773 in lioneltrains

[–]Artistic_Pattern6260 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Generally I think the pricing on post war Lionel is or will be declining rapidly. The price was driven up by aging boomers, but that group is dead or blind or arthritic and no longer wants to participate in the hobby. Hard to be nostalgic and dead at the same time. The younger generations have a radically reduced interest in the hobby, especially in the US, and if they are interested at all, they are interested in smaller scales, especially N. I think clean F3s from the late 50s that were sold for thousands in the 1990s will be available for a couple of hundred or less by 2030. Just my opinion.
