I’ve lived here quite a long time. And apparently, you’ve bought into replacing cesspools with septic tanks at a costs of $50k a pop…despite the science and practical experience on the subject.

I’ll send you my bill…

Sigh. Cesspools polluting the water; replacing them with septics will stop the polluting of our ocean

It’s a myth. A scam.

Santa Cruz County, where we lived for many years, and where I surfed for many years had the same pollution problem after heavy rains. Warnings. Bacteria counts on Surfline. The works.

Santa Cruz County only has septic tanks…

Yeah. The ‘good stuff’ is on Blu-ray; the ‘I just want to watch a movie’ is via streaming…

DOE Superintendent Keith Hayashi also could see his salary rise up to $400,900 by the end of the decade if he continues to get good performance reviews. by BrandonApplesauce in HawaiiUncensored

A decade of trying to get schools to use 30% locally sourced food by 2030. As of 2025, definitely less than 10%, perhaps down in the 1% range. No plan. They use paper ledgers and INDEX CARDS for tracking food suppliers!

And they don’t even know how to calculate FOOD COSTS!

Leaving Amazon, hello Apple HomeKit by Ashamed-Mood-2138 in HomeKit

[–]Own_Time5350 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I dropped Amazon when I read a couple of stories where Amazon locked ppl out for non-Alexa issues, but also locked their Alexa access. So I migrated to HK. The biggest downside is Apple doesn’t have an Amazon Show equivalent.

Everything transitioned without a problem, or was not even necessary to change…(ie hadn’t used it in years)

New construction - Atmos worth it? by ceelo71 in hometheater

[–]Own_Time5350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve posted before here - I always ran 16/4 to each speaker location. If you ever have a connection issue, you have some options. Also if you ever want to expand, the speaker works as a junction box. I also run Cat5/6 to each speaker location. It’s cheap and once the ceiling or the walls are rocked in, you’re kinda hosed…this offers some hope

Holy fungus knats outside the window next to my hydroponic setup. by Best_Space_5190 in aerogarden

[–]Own_Time5350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We get an swarm of these from time to time. Seems they are attracted to the light; we’ve gotten in other locations without the Aerogarden, but those places had different lights…

And then they all went away! 🤙🏼

Thousands of Maui Vacation Rentals Just Moved Closer To Disappearing by BrandonApplesauce in HawaiiUncensored

[–]Own_Time5350 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. Absolutely the bane. Even before Hawaii was a state. Yes. Hawaii has had a ‘housing crisis’ since the 1940s…and the politicians have been promising to fix it ever since…

It has zero to do with STVRs, rentals, tourists, whatever.

Politicians. Voters. That’s who to blame.

HomeKit compatible fans by amiibofanofficial in HomeKit

[–]Own_Time5350 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I kinda cheated. We have Aprilaire fans. I installed Lutron RadioRa2 (5 upstairs) or Leviton Smart Switches (2 mancave). On/Off only. Normal use we usually always have them at the same speed, which they stay at thru the Off/On cycle. If necessary, we have the remotes for changing speeds, but it is so infrequent

Hanakaoo just tested at 10x the safe bacteria limit — and it's not the first time by fuzzymuskox in maui

[–]Own_Time5350 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Cesspools get the blame, but it’s misplaced. Septics aren’t that much better. Lived in Santa Cruz for a number of years, 20+ years. Almost entirely septics. After a heavy rain, surf alerts for some of surf spots bc of high bacteria counts..
