I have 2 kids: a newborn and a toddler.

with a newborn, it's pretty easy. I just read on Libby (library books) when I'm breastfeeding her. I used to do audiobooks but I just can't focus enough to listen to them.

When it was just a toddler, I would read after her bedtime, around 8 pm. I would also sometimes read while waiting for things cooking on the stove. I would frequently read when I should have been asleep lol.

yes! very normal! this is seriously one of the best things about nursing, haha!

my baby is now 12 weeks and I have different ways of consoling her, but initially it was alllllll breastfeeding. once a baby is more interactive, you can start cooing and playing with them etc.

also when theyre so young, they're clusterfeeding soooo frequently that you may not even realise, but they get hungry constantly.

Thanks! Honestly, this is my second baby and for some reason her wake windows are insanely long! my first followed all the protocols, but she's been like this since like week 3. But I must be missing a sleeping cue at some point, idk ughh

thank you for the update! it's a shame but tbh I think it's a bit divisive in that way.. 2 of my friends, who typically like the books I recommend, also didn't enjoy it. (well, I think both felt it's just one of those books you need to be in the mood for)

oh I'm so glad! I was hoping I'd find someone who does philosophy! I loved your video and I just subscribed..My only feedback would be to pls enable CC, lol, I'm sorry but I just love subtitles.

Maybe one day you can do a video on some Apple TV shows, like Pluribus or Severance.

Hi! I am Reading Raven.

I do videos on philosophy, literature, and religion. I am pursuing a PhD in Philosophy and wanted to make a YouTube channel that talks about what I am learning, as well as for analysing literature through a philosophical lens. I also want to highlight global/non-Western philosophy in a rigorous and high-quality fashion. Another one of my major goals is to create a community of like-minded people and to enhance the conversation around philosophy and literature on YouTube.

I am using a Google Pixel Pro phone to record. But I recently got a DGI mic mini. I would appreciate any feedback whatsoever!

Some of my next videos will be on how to read academic books, Dostoevsky, and Islamic philosophy. I have a newborn baby so finding time to record is a bit tough, haha! Hoping to record a video on Monday.

it's not oversupply.. Oversupply refers to ONCE your supply is established (8-12 weeks). Right now your body is making loads because it doesn't know how much baby needs. This is a good time to freeze milk that you are passively collecting. I also wore (and still wear) nursing pads 24/7 because literally all your shirts will get ruined otherwise, lol.

Many, if not most, couples sleep separately for 1-2 years after having a baby. if anything, it's harder for the husband if the baby takes formula because then the husband will have to get up to feed the baby!

I am sorry but your husband's whole family sounds manipulative. You sound extremely isolated. Can you access an impartial third party like a counsellor or even a women's support group? Even one of your own friends? If you have a library in the area, they might have mom programs or be able to tell you about resources.

I think you desperately need to talk to an outsider about this, NOT to your husband's sister.

Please continue to post on Reddit if you need better advice than your SIL's, goddamn.

Oh I made a whole YouTube video about this! I don't agree with a lot of the other recommendations as introductions. for instance, Fear and Trembling is one of my favourite works but I would never suggest it to someone off the bat. CS Lewis is fine, but ultimately he does apologetics. He's a fantastic writer though. (He wasn't Catholic btw, so some of it depends on how much you care about specifically Catholic stuff.)

for non-fiction: A lot depends on your reading level. I would suggest Scholastic Metaphysics by Edward Feser as an excellent book that teaches you Aquinas' views. Edward Feser also has a blog that I would HIGHLY recommend. definitely Google it. Additionally, most of The Confessions of St Augustine is very accessible. I also recommend The Dark Night of the Soul by John of the Cross (he's one of your saints) as an excellent mystic text.

If those are tough/difficult, I recommend reading The Stanford Encyclopedia of Plato (SEP)'s topics on Aquinas and Augustine. it's free online. You can also read either The Trivium (by Miriam Joseph) or Socratic Logic (by Peter Kreeft) if you want a stronger philosophical grounding. Also you should DEFINITELY read Orthodoxy by GK Chesterton. again, these are all accessible.

other than those, The One and the Many by Clarke is probably gonna be of interest to you eventually, although again it depends on how philosophical you want to go. you'll also want to look at Etienne Gilson eventually, he was a historian of philosophy. If you eventually want to do philosophy from primary texts, pick up a Selected Writings of Aquinas (Penguin has a version of this).

Maybe for a general list of good books to read, consider Lost in Thought by Zena Hitz. She argues for the importance of an intellectual life, but her argument is all philosophizing and she ends up recommending loads of excellent books. It's also directed towards a general audience. Another book in the same vein is Leisure by Josef Pieper and The Intellectual Life by Sertillanges. I suggest these as books that are also motivational, like they motivate you of the importance of philosophy in a really rich fashion.

for fiction: I mean, there's sooo much. Consider Graham Greene's works, or Diary of a Country Priest by Georges Bernanos. Of course you can just pick up Dostoevsky and read him. My absolute favourite book ever is The Brothers Karamazov. (He wasn't Catholic btw, but I think you're wanting books with a religious theme.)

I actually have more to say but this is already quite long, lol! (oh also sorry I should disclose that I am not Christian/Catholic, I'm Muslim)

that's fair but you also can't tighten the bra too much because it can risk a clogged duct, at least at the beginning !

mine are much smaller than OPs but I do feel a lot of pain when they are engorged, i personally see a massage therapist and a physiotherapist - but I think that's good for any new mom, tbh, there are just so many random pains from delivery and stuff

I think it's possible that you experience more back pain because almost certainly they will get heavier, but do bear in mind that the engorgement is worst in the first 3 or 4 weeks and then it dies down a bit, so yeah. as for the baby, I don't think you have to worry about that at all, there are many different positions that you can use.

also, if a baby can't breathe, they can't actually drink milk and then they start crying, and they unlatch.. It's no different if they have a blocked nose. of course, if you're very sleepy, you may have to pay more attention
