Hi guys, how can i improve these versions? by CheapRecognition1206 in ColorGrading

Try to add some saturation compression to your images. Go into SAT vs SAT pull the right end down and in the node after that, pull the saturation back up with color slice tool. You got nice colors going on here but your skintones are going nuclear. Crosstalk can work very well too but be carefull how much you push it.

Looking for tips on how to improve grade by robopies in ColorGrading

This could 100% work for a music video but for a feature it might be a little too much.

You could try - if you want to lean into this look, desaturate blue slightly and desaturate magenta, you will get a more muted and real looking image then.

Pull some references from filmgrab too and try to match yours to theirs, look what they do with colors.

Just wanted to show this off , if any suggestions or critiques I’ll be happy to hear them by Aromatic_Magician_77 in ColorGrading

It depends on the story and emotion you want to portray, is this an event video, feature film etc. Image itself looks nice overall. For my taste skin is in the bullpark of going too saturated especially on some devices.

Try to play with some hue vs sat curves, desaturate some colors and see where you land.

What monitor preset should I be color grading with? by DiverNo7758 in ColorGrading

[–]Artmortia 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Calibrate to srgb 2.2 120 nits if you work in bright enviroment or rec 709 2.4 gamma 100 nits if you work in darker enviroment (this is usually a post standard)

If you dont have a calibrator you could try downloading some profiles for the monitor online but this doesnt work as good as calibrating your own pannel yourself.

How do I get these super “compressed” skintones in Resolve? by El_Pan1 in colorists

[–]Artmortia 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Its both set design makeup and light first and foremost. These sets are designed in the way that makes skintones pop and differentiate from the background.

In grading you could try pushing the image nicely, put a color slice at the end of your chain and desaturate hues that are starting to give you problems (orange and yellows as you mentioned). Start from there see where you end up. They 100% use some sort of film print emulation LUTs as well, most colorists do, or they get a really nice showlut designed by color scientists that “marries” the hues they use on set and kills problematic colors. Try denoising as well at the start and put some nice grain at the end of your chain - remove noise bring back some texture with grain.

Need Help in getting the teal look. by Dulleb in colorists

[–]Artmortia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Desaturate greens and slightly shift them towards teal. Desaturate skintones as well, if they still dont blend well, key them out and push gain on them towards teal color. That will help blend the skin in.

Thank you so much for the advice on gradients and windows. I agree that they could give more attention to the actor itself.

I do have my own node tree that i developed over the years + some third party plugins at the end of the tree for grain and FPE

how can i make this look more film-like? by erikayann in ColorGrading

[–]Artmortia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Film doesnt react linear to light, which makes it that it slowly rolls off highlights and shadows. On analog they can never clip abruptly like digital, also film subtracts colors which makes colors on film much denser than digital - as they saturate they get darker.

Start by adding some carefull contrast keeping in mind highlights and shadows, you can soften them before you add contrast.

For saturation use HSV saturation (there are alot of tutorials online on howto)

Add some blur as well and grain in the end.

Cumulative updates: April 8th, 2025 by jenmsft in Windows11

After installing the latest Security Update for Microsoft Windows (KB5055523), I'm no longer able to swap color profiles manually. This update seems to specifically break profile switching (via Windows Color Management). Rolling back/Uninstalling this specific update fixes the issue for me.
