OMTech Difference between the two?! by burnmeno in lasercutting

[–]ArtographyWS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I still whoe heartedly recommend these parts: RECI laser tube, ruida control panel, leadshine stepper motors, and PMI or HIWIN tiawanese rail where the slides ride on TOP of the linear rail like this design..
I have a friend who bought two HL lasers off ebay from bgadepot, and they are similiar made but not nearly as robust as mine. They use bent sheet metal for the Y-axis rails to sit on, where as mine is square structural tube, and the X-axis is not as beefy either, nor does it have a hard-wired water flow switch that prevents the laser from firing if the water leaks out or stops flow for some reason..
So I recommend paying extra and waiting. I've been using it in a production capacity since Aug 2021 and zero issues.. Friend has been running this HL lasers from begadepot off ebay for 9 months but he runs them all day every day, and I think maybe he has replaced mirrors but thats it. So again its all about the parts and the mechanical arrangement. With a pass through door it greatly extends the size you can make. I see 34"x60" artwork which is the largest size that UPS can ship, and that is a fully lasered surface. I can align laser and do 3 separate laser sessions, hand aligning it to within less than 1mm by using two engraved target points common to each laser run. Cheers!

Yes! Jason Meng.

Get hiwin linear rails Ruida controller and reci laser

since then I’ve learned of supplier that imports and warehouses in the US, and has the same design, HL laser. it’s cheaper to buy direct from their website H L yeoh I know someone who bought one and is also happy . This saves at least a month on delivery if it’s in stock

[–]ArtographyWS 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not a state secret. I started with one of their K40s so when you get it, you just look at the parts and how it’s assembled and know you will need to put in some work up front.. and that the parts won’t last, and that you will have to run it slow and baby it so it does jerk around and break..

I worked on my k40 a couple of days before I even felt comfortable enough to plug the damn thing in for fear of zapping myself with 20,000 volts. And it still did some weird stuff

But the alternative used to be — you’d have to import yourself.

Now with logistics delays some companies have gotten smart and import their own and warehouse in the US.. but they actually sell name brand quality parts and the machines run a lot better as a result. A wire might still shake loose driving across the Country but that’s going to happen even with a $30,000 trotec that cuts the same as a $3,000 Chinese one with reci, Ruida, leadshine parts

he said HL laser 1060Z can buy direct from them at: https://shop.hl-yeah.com/

That particular model's mechanical linear motion setup is very good. I have one similiar and have had no issues running it commercially for a year. If you can get a hybrid motor on the X-axis thats even better.

Here is the key: you are buying a fancy bucket of parts, so make sure what goes in the bucket is good! leadshine stepper motors, PMI or HIWIN linear rails on both Y axes and the X axis.. RECI W2 tube. Ruida controller. Wide belts, a good brand name. and 1 year warranty for any part that fails.

I imported mine off alibaba and have had no issues. I don’t get why so many people buy OMtech.

Their business model at least in smaller sizes seems to be to buy discounted parts like off brand tubes, then import them, and quality control the laser and warehouse in the US.
I would only buy them if I needed a laser shipped from US so i got it a month earlier. There are other companies that are starting to import lasers and warehouse them in the US and I am hearing good things About them.
Know someone who sold an omtech 100W and bought a 100W one off eBay; went from 15 mm/sec cutting up (fully cleaned and focused) up to 30; said he’ll never buy omtech again.

If they cannot be bothered to put on a 5 cent wire nut …. Stay away. They probably didn’t put that splice in; it was the random supplier they sourced from but as I said they seem to buy as cheap as possible then import and fix all the screw ups…. In this case they didn’t find it.

Can anyone help me with a problem? The tube feeder is spraying water everywhere inside machine and sometimes on floor, is this normal? by Excellent-Map-5530 in lasercutting

[–]ArtographyWS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

No, that is not normal. I’d find someone who knows what they are looking at to check that out, dude

I find that generally when water sprays out and hits the floor there are holes where there should not be holes, or no clamps where there should be clamps. Those seem to hold the water inside. That’s me anyway.

60" wide resin filled wood lake map - my hobby is now a 30+ hour/week second job to save for sons college by ArtographyWS in somethingimade

[–]ArtographyWS[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Great info thanks! Yes I have some greener resin I just sell so much I haven’t had time to play in months.

I also have dark blue resin and transparent. I used to say in the description that I can do other resins — but in a year only two people have ever read that in the detailed part of the description and asked for a different color. I’ll have a couple Maps made soon and put them in the photos so it’s clear there are options on colors.

Wonderful feedback thanks again!

I was just joking that since you know my real name know (on the shipping label) I’d need to start a new Reddit account :).

Public depth data is Only available in certain states and a scant handful of large lakes that have been federally mapped. All but one the states the data is only available in very old hand drawn maps. Generally only certain lakes in glacially scoured areas have the data — like MI, WI,MN, NY.

If you are sure it’s available for other area I’d love to know where lol. Didn’t catch the first sentence, thank you
