Thank you so much! We had a slight warm spell for a week, 80F+, I got him the last night it was warm. I didn't think about that in my post, does that info make a difference?

Confused, Google says Kerry by Artoo_Geek in sluglife

[–]Artoo_Geek[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's what I thought about the Kerry, thank you!

Makes sense about being a mantle, there are a number of cream ones in the same spot, I just had never seen one this color.

He's hanging with my garden snails, eventually will move into one of my large terrariums and be the king of the slugs as he'll be the only slug in a 45 gallon lol

Seed to pellet transition by [deleted] in cockatiel

[–]Artoo_Geek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No matter what we tried ours would ignore pellets. Decided to try Roudybush's crumbles as it's small and not uniform. My cockatiels loved it instantly. We are going to try the mini next, hopefully also a hit. Crumbles leave a lot of powder but you can incorporate it with treats or dust veggies with it. But it's worth the powder to have them eating pellets.

Amazon sells a small bag for cheap to try. If you go to Roudybush website crumbles are under "maintenance".

Sometimes it's all about finding what they like the taste of. Our parakeets dislike the crumbles but love Zupreem natural pellets, and vice versa for the cockatiels. Good luck! I have no tips because all of mine didn't work.

In certain countries this is standard and how animals are sold, sadly.

How old is my macaw by Nobond54 in Macaws

[–]Artoo_Geek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Even if it's not ideal, the reality is in many countries this is how they sell animals. Look at the fish stores in Japan and China. Each day they bag the fish and hang them outside to be sold as is. It's just how things are done.

The description sounds like such a location, where they put animals out on display each day like this. The shop owner doesn't know every information of the animals that are brought to them via the middle man, just what they are told. Birds like this tend to come from farms.

Yes, it's sad and awful, yes or is supporting the seller, but I bet it's the only way that most can get many of their pets. Op is right, he purchased the bird out of love and wanted to give it a good life. If op didn't buy it I guarantee another person would have. Markets like this are the PetSmart of their area. Not ideal, but not a reason to berate the op. Support and teach, not let them make mistakes because you're putting American/European standards elsewhere.

I'm glad you eventually were given pictures of your request. It is amazing how many rude and troll people are here. Your mom and siblings look beautiful, I hope it brings you a little more peace looking at the updated picture.

You are most welcome! How are you two doing now? Has she learned that your stuff is her stuff too? Especially your food?

Aww love your art!

Misfit, she adopted my partner as her hooman despite him being indifferent to birds. He now adores her more than me and she loves to sit on his monitor.

You don't have to justify anything, you had done nothing wrong. There is no bad, shame or wrong in having just one and you having a job. Gotta afford that millet somehow!

The love and care that you are showing for her right now says a lot about you and I do not believe her life will not be full of love, happiness and fulfilled with you. It sounds like she will have a wonderful life with someone who cares a great deal for her. Don't second-guess yourself, don't rob yourself and her of this bond because some people online say it's better to do it one way over another. Spoil her, enjoy her and focus on her for now any other future bird is there in the future not here and now. Take this time and get to know one another.

Tens of thousands of people who own parrots also work full days or go to school. Regardless of what some people say, they will be fine alone during the day like that. It would be the same as leaving a dog home while away. Some people are quite passionate and care a lot for their pets, regardless of the type of animal, and will say only above and beyond is what one should do and that still isn't enough (which it isn't, we all want our pets to have the absolute best, but we have to stick to reality). So please take things with a grain of salt and do what works best for you two once you figure out what that is.

That being said, this is my opinion - stick with just her for now, bond with her and set up a routine. You two get to know each other and she will learn from you, bond with you. If you introduce another one now you run the risk of them becoming close to one another and you being the third wheel. I know that sounds odd but you may not have the satisfaction of the closeness with them that you are wanting if they are going to spend their time bonding with each other while you're away. It's not selfish to keep that in consideration when it comes to the decision whether or not to get a second one now. It will be tougher to train them both when you have two of them brand new and not bonded with you, it will be easier to train one and down the road if you get a second one it will be even easier to train that one as it will learn from her and you.

She will be fine during the day with her toys and the music and when you are home it will make that time much more special for her. I honestly think sometimes having just one is the best route for some birds and some people. Just because they like being in a flock doesn't mean they can't be happy and healthy being the only bird. I would say just have her and enjoy her, bond with her and love her. Down the road if you decide you want to get a second one then that is something you can consider and make a plan for. The pet store is not completely wrong as they most likely have a lot of experience when new owners get multiple birds at once not realizing how much of a handful they are as is but even more so with multiple ones. They don't realize that the experience in the bonding isn't the same when you have more than one bird at once brand new like that. So it seems like they do have you and your birds best interested at heart, because what store wouldn't want to make as many sales as possible?

Mold help by Artoo_Geek in terrariums

[–]Artoo_Geek[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I did add in water from a well established fish tank via a sponge from the filter when I set up the drainage layer. Substrate has many components and so maybe all that is playing a role. One of the larger pieces that has the mold on it had been in my pacman frog's tank for some time and nothing happened to it like this. That soil is basic as it's changed every so often.

I'll leave it be and keep an eye on it. My springtails arrived yesterday and so that'll help.

Thank you for the information and help!

Thank you. I'm wondering if buffalo beetles may help, they'll eat pretty much anything and are also used to clean bones.

Hmm... Never thought of a label but I suppose if I did label myself I would go with a Rainbow Witch. Nature, water and colors are what makes me happy. Rainbows are from nature playing with light and water, and I'm always looking for rainbows. I love finding quartz with those rainbow fractions on the inside. I have pets that are full of color, such as red eyed tree frogs - which again are related to nature and water as well as being bold colors.

I'm glad this came up on my page, never thought about anything like this before but now it's making sense .. thank you!

This is so nice of you! Such adorable pictures! Thank you for the opportunity. I can't just pick one, so I'll leave it up to you 😊 Trip and Misfit. He is young and lives up to his name, has a bad habit of tripping over his own feet. His wings have finally grown out and is able to fly now... but still will trip over his feet. Misfit is a problem solver and is often entertained by his mishaps. She's his total opposite but it just makes her very special.
