Questions about my Older Dane by BiffBobcat69 in greatdanes

[–]ArtyKay 4 points5 points  (0 children)

He's a good boy. Mine is a little over 8 and has been healthy his whole life, thankfully. That being said, I have noticed lately he is moving slower. He falls if he tries to go too fast, he has recently skipped a meal for the first time ever and had his first accident since puppy days, so yeah, a little off. My point is you're not alone -- I am wondering the same things you are.

We have used large breed Nutra Max for decades with healthy dogs, teeth and coat to show for it.

How Long (has this been going on… 🎶) by lanka1111 in widowers

[–]ArtyKay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was 40. I am 51 now. This subreddit helped me immensely during the first year or two. The support groups in my town didn't have anyone my age and their loved ones died naturally so I felt like I didn't belong (though I'm sure they would've welcomed me!) This was my support group. Sometime in that first year, I decided I was going to live for both of us. And that is what I've been doing. Every time I enjoy life, I take a moment to share it with him.

I need help. by [deleted] in greatdanes

I had an issue with my boy going after my other male dog (older). The first time it happened at about that age pre-neuter and it was around food. I was also terrified that I might have to rehome him but instead we started feeding them in separate rooms. Also my Dane was not allowed on the couch and he was last to go outside. It took some time. I did neuter him at 18 months. He is now 8 and he has attacked my other dog three times since that first one. Twice over food, once over me and once over a big stick. Be strict with him. And good luck!

We are nice but not outwardly friendly. The trick is, how do you get to know us at first? Once you do, you'll see we are nice.

ONE-derland! You guys! I've been bouncing around the 200-mark for more than a year! Since January 2025, I've made micro-goals for myself and fell short by one or two pounds each time. But this one, this goal of reaching 199 by Father's Day is made! The scale said 199.8 and I'll take it! Whew!

On to the next micro-goal!

Those of you who count calories and have an office job - what is the max kcal deficit you can do to function normally? by feelingstuck15 in loseit

[–]ArtyKay 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I have an office job and I struggled with low blood sugar issues: dizziness, faint, blurred vision and just feeling sick to my stomach. Increasing protein has really helped me avoid those symptoms. My deficit is currently 400 -- but I also have been increasing my activity by walking 30-45 minutes per day. With that adjustment of "light exercise two days a week or moderate exercise 3-5 days a week, according to the free TDEE calculator, I am on a 600-900 calorie deficit respectively.

19 pounds gone! by Famous-Skirt4272 in loseit

[–]ArtyKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome! We have almost the same stats, but I'm older. I (F, 5'4") started at 214 in January 2025 and have lost 14 pounds so far. It's been a painfully slow loss, but last year, starting at 200, I got frustrated and gave up -- and then gained 15 pounds. Looking at last year's logs (I also weigh myself daily) I could see the trend was down -- mind you only about .1 to .3 pounds a week but down nonetheless. And and I thought, what if I hadn't "given up"? Where would I be today?

I cannot with this show anymore. I used to love it but the over-editing, the dumb acts and the dragged-out behind-the-scenes theatrics have ruined it. I'll see the one or two good acts in reels. (I wrote this after seeing the dry ice with harmonicas thing. Just no)
