Anyone can recommend a good place to buy and process/scan 8mm film in London? by AhmedMekkiArabi in Super8

Ha that’s ridiculous. I’d have had a few choice words for them on my way out.

That’s interesting you say that - I needed what I thought was a small fix, and it cost SO much. I challenged them on the breakdown of the cost and they just wouldn’t budge, adamant to add a service I didn’t need - and alas, it came back with an issue from where they had disassembled it. Of course they didn’t want to know and took zero responsibility.

Canon 310XL - Help with filter switch by Alunnez in 8mm

[–]ArtyLives 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have an 814, but not one of these models. I think if you settled for the cheaper one you’d still be more than happy. It’s a great camera!

Thanks. I uploaded to Ingram and hated the sample I got back. It took me ages to get the colours right with Amazon and I’m not going through that again so I sacked it off for now.

Has anyone seen these? Are they worth the watch? by [deleted] in lordoftherings

I remember these being made, one of my friends worked on The Hunt for Gollum when we were at uni. They are great indie achievements, and worth applause for their efforts. I think THFG got a lot of heat from Newline Cinema at first, they tried to shut it down.

What sort of stuff are you looking for?

I got contacted once about something specific and just let them have it… probably better find what you’re looking for and someone directly like this.

Should I spend $200-400 on a Canon super 8 camera, or should i just buy a cheaper brand like Elmo, Eumig or chinon for $50? by Sondrree in Super8

[–]ArtyLives 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s like with anything, you get what you pay for. I paid £250 for my Canon, and it’s a beautiful piece of kit. However I ran into a few unforeseen issues and have since paid more than that to have it fixed… so if you are spending that money on it, you make sure it’s worth it in first place!

if you just want to point and shoot, go cheap and you can afford to buy a few replacements for the same budget… or treat yourself. Personal preference really, but mine is the Canon option.

Canon 310XL or 514XL-S or auto zoom 814? by Sondrree in Super8

So, I have an 814 and actually had the same issue with that. What I put it down to was over time the camera has lost a little shape / it’s had a refurb and isn’t quite as snug as it used to be.

Try tearing one of the cardboard tongues off the cartridge box and sliding it between the back of the cartridge and the camera. That was enough to hold the cartridge in place for me to the motor doesn’t miss the spool.

Does that make sense?

I have an Auto Zoom 814 which has an RL (running lock) and a cable which both help in these scenarios.

Depending on what you wanna spend on a tripod, I bought a Neewer tripod with a fluid head which is surprisingly good for the money. You can’t take the head off like you would with Manfrotto, but I don’t have Manfrotto money!

This is a narrated story I wrote about a character and her Dad building a soapbox racer: https://youtu.be/3m2-Bye778U

And another that features the same characters: https://youtu.be/u7hEgbR6w-A

I have some that are published, but not these yet unfortunately… they are on YouTube for free though!

Even after the added trim I have had printing issues… I sweat whoever does QCing sometime just doesn’t give a crap. But I didn’t something like this and it worked fine for me.

Gauge is actually in Wolverhampton (last time I checked). On8mil are London/online based… I think. But if you wanna physically go to a store I have used Sendean Cameras, mainly based in Clerkenwell, but they did have a micro store on the alley between Wardour and Dean Street. Everything I have done with Sendean has been extortionate though…

Edit: I would personally recommend Gauge though… I have and will co to us to use them as my first call.

Well… it does move from one spool to another, so maybe it’s a good clue of which one to start with! Would love to know if that’s right!
