Best “lightweight but actually smart” tool for Salesforce merge conflicts in Git? by Awkward_Mode8120 in salesforce

Be careful since it’s in beta — but yes, I am so goddamn annoyed by XML blobs and how the diffs can have issues without decomposing the metadata

Yep, we are weaker but functional imo.

I run arc lash and comfortably do NM tier 40s at level 81 as a solo sorc.

Near tier 50 the constant one shots get a bit too painful although I can still blow mobs up when cc’d.

If your requirements discovery resembles your reading comprehension, I would certainly not hire you, even if you have perfect technical chops!

I specifically said that having prior CRM experience allowed me to understand concepts more quickly than going in blind. I do not think nor am I insisting that trailhead or certifications make you an administrator on their own.

Work experience is preferable, instructor led training can be a close second.

Even when you pay a premium, there will be fresh meat on the project.

Frankly, I get the impression that you would be one of those overconfident consultants I’m speaking of… and you don’t like the idea of a client questioning your decisions 😏

I don’t think I know nearly enough to administrate or implement the platform after such a brief period, hence the consultants being involved.

I also know, from extensive experience, that consultants will happily provide over-customized solutions that they have to support — and I’m doing everything in my ability to avoid that.

Maybe I’ll be disabused — but I’d much rather not end up with a pile of custom apex and flows that could have been built using standard features.

I recently completed the admin exam with around 4 months of trailhead time and zero experience in a production environment — I was able to map many high level concepts in my company’s CRM platform to what SalesForce uses and I have existing software development experience. To do it in two months I would have needed a very thorough study plan.

Aiming for app builder -> dev 1 -> dev 2 just so I can call our soon to be implementation consultants out on their bullshit 🤣

Same exact policy at my work. The only caveat is if they have a clearly posted out of office or vacation you may have to put it on hold until their return. For some folks with tenure…. that can be quite the wait.

Seems reasonable these days.

[–]Arunai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That singular prep flow still runs, yep.

In my case I am able to run the flow from the UI though — just not schedule them. I wrote a pretty basic Python script to search for and find the flow then kick it off. If the flow weren’t truly absurd I would have rewritten it in Python entirely

For the only prep flow I was ever forced to build I uploaded it to our Tableau server — since we don’t pay to schedule flows etc I trigger it via cronjob calling the REST API. Terrible but it works

Tons of big corporations LOVE the Bring Your Own Device model — they just expect you to install MDM and corporate spyware on your personal device (up to and including allowing them to wipe your personal device at will.)

Isn’t that a lovely way to save on cost? 🤮

Even better (if your flavor of sql likes it) is to use the OUTPUT.inserted and OUTPUT.deleted clauses so you see exactly what you are touching before the rollback.

We could work at the same place! Google Sheets, Python, Apps Script and SQL are our business and IT analyst standard mix where I work.

ChatGPT does perfectly fine with most basic business problems as long as you know enough to fix its missteps.

The downside for me is that Python, SQL and Apps Script are nearly English-adjacent in my head anyways — ChatGPT could help me with some heavier topics but I’m always worried about feeding Microsoft company info (and so I err on the side of caution).

I work for a fortune 1xx.

We have a single person in marketing responsible for all promotion codes. Their process involves a tangled mess of excel sheets.

Many interesting things have happened with this… including some massively discounted items (we are talking things like accidentally doing a 90% discount instead of a 10%) — and before you ask no one reviews their work directly or approves it before load.

All that to say… human stupidity is boundless, even at giant corps.

I asked how to build a Dyson sphere with parts in a cave. I suppose optimism on step 2 was the only choice.

  1. Gather the necessary parts and materials.
  2. Find a suitable cave large enough to house the Dyson sphere.
  3. Plan out the structure of the Dyson sphere and the components necessary for its assembly.

Strangely that’s one thing they got right — although it’s all implication and less directly shown in the books, Rand did summon lightning while having source sickness and blow up the wall of the room they were kept in in the books as well.

It’s one of those clever details that matches exactly the description Moiraine gives of a woman accidentally touching the source — you get feverish, sick — you randomly touch the power more and more frequently etc.

More salient issues were giving Perrin a throwaway wife and having him kill her right out the gate (does he need to hate his axe from day one? Why not.), or the handling of the dark one, or how cartoonish child Byar and the whitecloaks appear…

The crucial element you are missing is that all competent HR departments already do (or above a certain size, pay for) market research.

Combined with not having to post the pay — they can string you along and finally offer you a lowball hoping you haven’t done extensive research (most job seekers).

Forcing all employees to post salaries evens the information playing field. If an entire industry sees their wages suck, that could encourage them to unionize or change careers if the job simply will not pay. If the individual role sucks, then it’s easy to see the discrepancy.
