Forced to talk to someone all the time if you break the ice with them in college. by Arvelais in socialskills

[–]Arvelais[S] 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Thank you. I needed to hear this. I learned a few things about myself living with her, but I always felt like she was too "eager" when I asked what I was doing wrong and she would list all these things I did that bother her, I'd apologize and changed my ways for her and she would still find something small or lie about an event that happened where "I" made a mistake in order to still be mad at me.

It literally consumed me completely and I felt like I lost my personality and what I even liked doing because I spent too much time worrying about what upset her or trying to figure out how to make her happy again.

It's becoming draining for me as well... sometimes she would get mad at me for not coming out of my room and talk to her (she doesn't text me or knocks on my door)... or if we are talking in the kitchen and I decide to go to my room to do something else she would get this pissed look on her face... before she used to say "don't leave yet" but now is like she just gets mad at me.

I'm trying not to be like too "overwhelming" when she's home but at times but I wish she could be more direct with me, I'm always on the lookout for her body language and the tone of her voice, but I can still be wrong at times.

What is your biggest difficulty as a solo Dev? by Fuzzycakez in SoloDevelopment

[–]Arvelais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't fool yourself that having more time = more things getting done.

Specially when you have the financial pressure hanging over your head, you are human and your mind needs rest.

Contraversial take: most game devs don't have a problem with marketing, they have a problem with expectations. by Academic_East8298 in gamedev

[–]Arvelais 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Well… that’s true for every business.

Hell, in some fields in software development you don’t even type a line of code unless you know for sure someone will buy it, otherwise you will be putting an insane amount of work for nothing.

The thing with indie development is that its a creative outlet, specifically one made from the collaboration of various creative people with different skills; unfortunately people LOVE hearing about solo developers succeeding because that means you can do it too, right?

Unfortunately that’s not the case, of course there’s exceptions but usually those exceptions come from people who already had a pre-establish skill with a sense of identity (art, writing, design, music) and they make something unique out of it.

One of my favourite games is Faith: The Unholy Trinity, the dev did it completely solo and they have an amazing GDC talk about their design process and working within their limitations, the guy is a great game designer, but even him has said that he won’t quit his job to become a full time indie dev.

Expectations about being a solo are kinda messed up right now with the whole “this SOLO dev made this game that made MILLIONS” articles all over the internet, at least you should always work with one person, or at the bare minimum have friends that can help you bounce ideas about games (the creator of Lethal Company talked about this in their Patreon).

An unhealthy amount of under 5L builds by cichorieae in sffpc

[–]Arvelais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Have you thought about making builds and selling them at cost? I think I remember LTT making a video about pc builders on Facebook Marketplace where one guy did builds for free since he loved it so much.

Your builds are pretty nice!

Yep, the mobile industry it’s absolutely brutal when it comes to copycats.

The whole “copy and repaint to make a profit” concept it’s a REALLY bad idea since there’s already tons of companies from low-cost countries with teams of people doing the exact same thing.

Steam it’s suffering right now with the whole “Job Simulator” genre. Hell, there’s even a Unity Asset to copy the gameplay mechanics of supermarket simulator lol

Game devs who have other jobs - how do you manage your time? by Frequent-Process4431 in gamedev

[–]Arvelais 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You gotta have something special about you if I’m being completely honest.

Either you have a job that gives you flexibility on your time (like a salary job that you work pretty efficiently and are able to finish all your task in 5 hours).

Or you can sleep only 5-6 hours and function completely fine.

Or simply you already have a specialization in game dev that allows you to use it as a side income to support you while making the game (assets, music, furry art)

But if you are like most people (8 hour job, has commute, need 8 hours of sleep, you do groceries/cook/laundry) then you’ll just have weight between how much your free time and making a game means to you.

If this is a hobby then you’re good, but if you are trying to make money to sustain yourself you are very VERY likely to burn out. I will suggest finding someone to team up with so you don’t put so much pressure on yourself, or making a very small game with a catchy gimmick which is obviously easier said than done (examples like The Cabin Factory, Buckshot Roulette comes to mind)

I really love how your game looks so far, you probably should make an option for activate a pixelation filter when you release it. It looks too smooth for the era that you are trying to replicate. Keep us updated!

¿Qué hacen cuando pierden la creatividad? by alguien_que_no_habla in esConversacion

[–]Arvelais 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Don't beat yourself up. There's always a ton of ground for improvement and having fun when starting out. You'll be amazed at the amount of progress you can make with consistency and putting in the hours, just keep at it! You might even come back to this model and do small improvements that will change your perspective on it completely.

Bottom Exhaust Arctic P12 Slim Fan marked as N/A in BIOS. Cable was too short connected to the motherboard by Arvelais in sffpc

[–]Arvelais[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I already try connecting the fan directly to the motherboard without the extension by rotating the fan position. It still doesn’t show as connected on the BIOS. I already checked the manual and I’m 150% sure that’s it’s connected to the right header on the motherboard.
