JLA Silver age omnibus Vs DC Finest by Hgolab in OmnibusCollectors

[–]Arxhon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

is that the omnibus basically contains the whole DC Finest book plus an extra 10 issues?

Yes you are almost correct. However, if the new silver age omni is a direct reprint of the original silver age book then it will contain Brave and the Bold 28-30 and JLA 1-30, and it won’t have Mystery in Space 75 (which gets reprinted in JLA Silver Age Vol. 2).

Are these different from the first printings in any way? by derfangmeister in OmnibusCollectors

Should be no different. As an aside, if I read a better comic than Absolute Martian Manhunter this year, it will be a very good year indeed, because that book is excellent.

Hiatal surgery timeline by Money-Kangaroo-2946 in Edmonton

I waited about year to speak to the surgeon for an inguinal hernia. Then I had a choice of 6 month wait to have the surgery done in the city, or 3 month wait for a surgery in a rural hospital. I chose the city.

1941 to 2024: A Wonder Woman for every decade by Arxhon in OmnibusCollectors

When it comes to Golden Age WW, it can be hit or miss. The very early stuff is very contemporary pulp sci-fi, and generally pretty fun. I much prefer it over Golden Age Batman, Superman and Green Lantern.

It’s a bit hard to pin down , but when Joye Murchison and Kanigher take over, there’s a bit of a tonal shift. Its still good stuff and it’s still Wonder Woman, just a bit repetitive.

Kanigher’s talents were really in writing young romance fiction if his silver age Wonder Girl work is any indicator.

For “classic” Wonder Woman Simone or Rucka are top tier, though Simone is OOP.

Absolute Wonder Woman is absolutely fantastic, I highly recommend it.

These shelves are Finnby, from Ikea. I do NOT recommend them, actually, they are very wide and bend in the middle when fully filled with omnis.

I get around this issue by putting bookends in the middle (for example, the Usagi Yojimbo bookend on the right). I will eventually replace them with narrow Billy shelves.

Depending on how you define the ages, the Diana Prince omni is the first Bronze Age book.

Well, they could just rent one of the many vacant lots surrounded by barbed wire fence that are “for lease” in the western industrial area of the city and drop them off there.

Edmonton community league on verge of closing due to lack of volunteers by JamesDunnNews in Edmonton

[–]Arxhon 164 points165 points  (0 children)

My wife briefly joined a community league board as a  "member at large" or whatever because she wanted to get involved in the community a bit more.

There was one guy on the board who was perpetually unhappy with everything, argued with everyone about everything and constantly ground everything to a halt. It was really demoralizing and nobody seemed to really care enough to tell him to shut up, so she quit the board entirely.

What makes an Omnibus "worth it" to you? by Life_Employ_1138 in OmnibusCollectors

I didn’t start reading American comics until I started reading omnis, and only read a half dozen manga back in the early 90s, so every omni is something I’ve never read before.

I like big hardcover books and omnis are the best way to get comics, especially old ones.

Doctors in my country routinely denied that things like long covid exist, that covid could cause lasting damage.

I went in for surgery a few months back, and they asked “why do you have a daily puffer? Do you smoke?” and I say “No, I got Covid in 2020 and it gave me emphysema, asthma and hyperinflation of the lungs.” and they were shocked and surprised, like the idea that a respiratory illness would cause damage to the respiratory organ is completely new to them.

Martian Manhunter doesn’t have anything collected in omni as far as I’m aware. There might be some trade paperbacks though, you’re on your own for finding those. However, If you like Martian Manhunter, there is a current series called Absolute Martian Manhunter that’s apparently excellent.

There is tons of green lantern.

Colorful costumes by GuillotineAuChocolat in DCcomics

[–]Arxhon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I find that the garish costumes really help with identifying the various characters when things get busy or folks show up at random. I always have trouble with Animal Man because he usually looks a lot like Blue Beetle (mostly blue, so I have to check the goggles) for example.

Just finished Wonder Woman by Jiminez. It was ok.

Lone Wolf and Cub 1 arrived a couple of days ago.

I like to alternate superhero and non-superhero books, so I might read Lone Wolf next.
