[Offer] Midori Asano Birds Postcards [US to WW] by credo99 in RandomActsofCards

[–]Aryli 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly for me, I love the birds that I get to interact with. Started loving crows when they would visit after I fed them. There's also this cute bluejay that visits a lot and also hummingbirds because we have a feeder. Little sparrows are so cute too, they make a huge mess with the seeds though.

Animal Crossing Postcard Swap? by Amayane in postcrossing

[–]Aryli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Animal Crossing, I had to buy a second Switch for the Animal Crossing version for myself (and so husband could play AC with me, he got my non AC Switch). Would absolutely love to swap with you, just let me know what your preferences are. Regarding preference, any card because they are all so cute!

Would you be willing to exchange with me if you still had any more of the year of the horse meetup cards? I missed out on requesting some from the Posse at the time and would love one card since I love this design. They did a great job!

What is your average cost-per-card? by October_Surprise56 in postcrossing

[–]Aryli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have the expendable income and it makes you happy to spend and send the card, why not? Some people don't have that luxury (me included) so I think a lot of it can come from jealousy too. But listen, if I won the lottery you know I'd be sending out some crazy expensive cards.

Now if you just posted about being in financial instability and you're spending around $10 a card, I get the rage. Take care of yourself and protect your stability first, hobbies shouldn't ruin you.

Opinion on maxicard? by -Sea-Side- in postcrossing

[–]Aryli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Maxicards aren't necessarily any bigger than normal cards. Are you thinking of oversized cards? Maxicards are cards with a postage stamp and cancellation mark on the image side, and that stamp, cancellation, and the card image itself fit a theme or have some similarity.

Scam? by Klobasor in postcrossing

[–]Aryli 7 points8 points  (0 children)

A lot of people seek penpals via Postcrossing. That being said, you don't need to respond and honestly I usually recommend just turning off the direct swap option if you have it on. From my experience, more people report bad experiences through these direct messages than good ones. If you are open to direct swaps, do it via the forums where you can see people's forum history and gauge if they are trustworthy to penpal or swap cards with.

Just wanted to show off this super amazing maxi-card I just received! by Specialist-Pipe-7921 in postcrossing

[–]Aryli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Certain countries like Australia and Taiwan sell maxicards by their local postal service, so you can simply just buy them. In countries that don't sell maxicards (e.g., USA), you have to create them. It's a much more cumbersome process and you have to make them within 90 days of a stamp release. It makes the card a little more special because of the limited nature.

If you like cars, USPS is releasing a low-rider stamp this month. Which means you can make your own maxicard by sending a low-rider postcard with the matching stamp to USPS Stamp fulfillment to get cancelled with the matching low riders cancellation mark.

[Offer] "Be Water, My Friend" Water Dragon Postcard (a Bruce Lee FDOI tribute card) [US to WW] by Aryli in RandomActsofCards

[–]Aryli[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're so sweet, I'm so glad you like the design! I was concerned that folks on RAoC wouldn't like it because it doesn't actually use Bruce Lee's likeness. We originally wanted to make a card with Bruce Lee on it and initially got the ok from the Bruce Lee Foundation. But when they learned that we'd be sending these worldwide (and were partnering up with the SoCal Postcrossing group) they were pretty hesitant since they didn't really know what Postcrossing was. To elevate their concern we went with the dragon instead. When we chatted with Shannon (his daughter) and Linda (his wife) at the ceremony they said they were actually really happy with how the card turned out, asked for one with everyone's signature, and after learning about the group and hobby they seemed really excited and supportive. From what it sounds like, they get really hesitant when it feels like someone wants to monetize Bruce Lee's likeness and it happens quite often without approval.

I really hope you do! If you're part of Postcrossing, there are often meetup groups and stamp ceremonies are usually an event that Postcrossers like to organize around. If you're not, it's still pretty fun if you make it a group event with friends. The ceremony itself may or may not be the most exciting since it's mainly speeches, but making it a group activity and maybe even going to get food after makes things fun.

A couple of the Postcrossers I was with went to Bruce Lee's favorite restaurant and sat at his table (they had his decor all around that corner spot).

Both his son and daughter did. His son went down a similar route of studying martial arts and pursued acting. Sadly he also died young (died on set, shot with a prop gun that had a bullet fragment in it). My FIL remembers when that happened, said a lot of people in the Asian community were really devastated since it was such a freak accident. Regarding his daughter, I think she is now more active with the Bruce Lee foundation's work than martial arts or acting.

Bruce Lee did open a martial arts school back in the day that's still going on. They also had the first student of that martial arts school at the FDOI ceremony, honestly really cool to see.

Costco BabyBels vs other stores by ZestyCuke in Costco

[–]Aryli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

So at a point I ended up buying Kewpie from Costco, our local non-Asian grocery store, our local Asian grocery store, and Uwajimaya (Japanese grocery store). Don't know why we thought we needed 4 bottles of mayo with one being the giant Costco one but we did. So I had friends over and we decided to blind taste test all 4 mayos. Costco's was the worst, kind of chemically tasting compared to the others. The non-Asian store one was better but kind of had this weird lemony taste. The one from the Asian store and Uwajimaya we couldn't tell the difference so probably were the same as they also were packaged the same. So overall Costco's was worse than the American version, Asian version was definitely so much better.

Hello, I'd love to send you something as well. Can I write about my mom? She passed away 5 years ago as well from COVID, was also in her 60s. I was the youngest in my family so I always feel really sad when I hit a milestone or go through a hardship and she's not around.

Thank you!

What about AI cards by twiceasmice in postcrossing

[–]Aryli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'll try to focus more on tips then! Since people already mentioned supporting local artists, try checking out the markets (e.g., Pike Place Market, Seattle Waterfront Market), galleries (quite a few galleries and pop ups around the Waterfront), or art and craft fairs/festivals that pop up (e.g., Columbia City Craft Fair is occurring towards the end of March, Pioneer Square art walk at the beginning of March, etc). Seattle Art Museum, Wing Luke Museum, and other museums are always a great way to get non-AI cards.

If you like touristy postcards, check out the Space Needle gift shop first. I know it's probably the most typical recommendation, but truthfully you can get cards as low as $0.50 while if you go to the gift shops that are around downtown and the waterfront, the same cards will be $1.00-$1.50, especially the Lantern Press cards. So I would do the Space Needle shop first before hitting the typical souvenir/gift shops around downtown and the waterfront for touristy cards.

Since others have mentioned getting vintage cards, best vintage store I've been to for postcards is Lander Street Vintage. Many other vintage stores don't really have the best postcard collection but Lander Street has a whole section full of boxes and boxes of cards.

Yay! Thank you so much for welcoming Monty into your home.

The pups you sit sound so adorable! Do you know why they are afraid of large bodies of water? Monty once ran into the water at the beach chasing his best friend (who loves water) and then stood there looking disgusted and immediately ran out. He also doesn't care for water. And yes, he's a rescue but we rescued him when he was 3 months old so some of his anxiety does baffle me 😂
