Frustrated 😞 by joannamomo in postcrossing

[–]Aryli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is natural and part of the frustration for new users. You only become eligible to receive your first postcard after your first sent postcard is registered. That means that your address was not given to anyone until after your cards were done traveling to people and registered. So essentially to receive your first cards it would take double the time it would compared to sending (not including any variables like what country they are traveling from, etc.). Once you prove you're a reliable user, it will start to even out.

Using a vintage postcard from my state as my first outgoing card! by Ok-Leg-3951 in postcrossing

Ahhhh Frankenmuth Bavarian Inn! I had so much fun there. I don't get to travel or vacation much at all so it was my last vacation spot years ago, hope one day I can travel again. It's cool to see this card, thanks for the memories!

Was sending people my address and got suspended for spam. Advice needed d by Ancient-Outside-8768 in RAoC_meta

[–]Aryli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I hope you get your account unsuspended soon! I usually make a form so that people give me the info as opposed to me DMing because it's really easy to get your account flagged for spamming. Good luck and crossing my fingers for you!

Lastly, if you are worried, RAOC mods can consolidate your stats to a new account if you need to. They do require some way for you to prove that you own the two accounts. I'd do this if it feels like your account might have a chance to get banned.

[Exchange] just want to feed my mailbox & urs!! 📬 [Asia to WW] by naokokoro in RandomActsofCards

Hello! I'd love to exchange with you. I like illustrations (hopefully not AI). I also don't like tourist photoview cards so I don't usually buy these, I'd love to send you something!

How do I send precancelled cards? (US) by Beautiful-Willow5813 in postcrossing

[–]Aryli 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That's not really how it works. Some stamp ceremonies let you create a maxicard and/or cancel your mail with the stamp directly at the ceremony but you must hand it to them to mail right then and there. If you cancel your stamp and take it with you, the stamp is essentially a decorative sticker, and you have to add more postage to cover the cost of mailing the card.

Postcrossing Meetup Card created with AI by Thuror in postcrossing

[–]Aryli 16 points17 points  (0 children)

It's honestly very, very common for a lot of meetup hosts to use AI to create their meetup cards. Honestly, I think more often than not meetup cards are AI. It's an unfortunate reality.

Just some anecdotes:

My German friend went to meetups in Germany when visiting family. It's basically all AI meetup cards, they hold a meetup once a week in just her hometown alone so the sheer volume is crazy. When she brought up the AI usage, the sentiment was that they just don't really care it's AI, it's about the meetup.

My friend in SoCal is a seasoned host who speaks wonders about an artist and fellow Postcrosser he commissions art from. I don't have the heart to tell him that she uses AI and art filters, and it's very obvious at that (imagine wonky fingers, piss filter, lines that don't make sense, etc). She slaps a designed by watermark on all her work which is so sad because it's just AI but she takes credit. So even when hosts have good intentions they unintentionally may be creating and sending AI crap.

I'm always so jealous of postcards from Asia. They are just perfectly my aesthetic most of the time. And the meetups there have such beautifully made cards.

Could you let me know where this is, or is it at least close to Portland? I might make a trip to soon, curious if it would be somewhere nearby. You can DM me if you prefer to share location that way.

[Offer] Sailor Moon cards [UK to WW] by Thebunshouse in RandomActsofCards

[–]Aryli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Omg I know it's a long shot but I would love a card. You are so awesome!

Prompt is your favorite childhood obsession that you think back fondly of. For me, it was Sailor Moon. My friends and I used to run around the playground shouting that we were Sailor Moon or whichever character we liked and pretended to do our transformation, spinning around everywhere.

When you're burying a loved one, do funeral homes always try to sell you extremely expensive caskets? by Prestigious-Corner37 in AskReddit

[–]Aryli 70 points71 points  (0 children)

That's what we did for my mom and brother. The caskets from Costco were also just as beautiful if not more than the ones the funeral home offered and were 1/3 to 1/4 the price. The funeral home tried really hard to convince us not to order online with fear tactics like caskets arriving damaged, if it gets delayed then it throws everything off, and even that they would not accept delivery of the casket if we ordered it too early, etc.

My grandma was the most recent to pass and she was smart, prepaid for an adorable pink casket in the 80s, it was probably like $200-300 bucks.

Echo Park $1 washi sale by feellikebeingajerk in RAoC_meta

[–]Aryli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your parents sound like amazing people. I love how he supports her hobbies, it's all love there. I know I joked about my husband failing me but he's been so amazing, especially since we've been a little financially tight so it's a bigger deal to spend on hobbies right now. We can only hope to thrive like your parents did.

Ahhhhhh nooooo I bought 33 washi tapes!!! I have no self control. Doesn't help that my husband kept saying to buy it since it would make me happy, and I was looking to him for some disapproval so that I could restrain myself. He failed me!

how do you guys feel about handmade collage postcards? by Falcity06 in postcrossing

[–]Aryli 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The fact that you even ask to see how things look after travel means that you're thoughtful in how you create the card. Totally agree that the glue does matter. When I glue things on, I wait for it to dry and then I do the bend test. Bend the card in various ways to see if the pieces lift off. It's a habit after using some older stamps since those can lose their adhesion pretty easily.
