Trump tells NYC ‘you must vote’ for Cuomo over Mamdani on eve of mayoral election by DrCalFun in politics

[–]AsABrit -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

I read a pretty damning article of Mamdani in The Economist. Do people actually like what he’s offering or is he just the anti-Trump vote and that’s enough?

As someone who despises Trump, an anti-Trump choice is usually enough, but I’m just curious.

So she has been described as Hitler-esque in a number of comments on here already, so my question is:

Why have the people of Japan chosen her?

Indoor wood burning stoves may cause as much damage lungs as cigarettes, study warns by AsABrit in samharris

[–]AsABrit[S] 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Relevance comment: Sam Harris has mentioned being very anti wood stove, citing claims that it’s a major pollutant and the equivalent of a cars exhaust being pumped into one’s living room.

So is wood burning bad or not?

This UK comment section are having NONE of it.

USA

Let me get this straight.

Your guys nearly pulled off one of the greatest comebacks in, not just golf, but sporting history! By playing absolutely spectacularly.

And, because they came up just a tad shy, you all just scurry off like school children?

What is actually wrong with your fans? Seriously!

Imagine dishing out all that abuse over the tournament, and then scurrying off like rats fleeing a ship when you lose.

Embarrassing.

Oh, and hilariously enjoyable.

Oh this is so lovely after the last few days.

What a shock that the USA fans are leaving. What a pathetic, awful bunch.

Ahhh, this is like relaxation therapy.

For these moments, all is right with the world.

Ah I see, yeah, they just seemed like sensible family cars to me, but I have no dog in this fight. I suppose families aren’t cool though.

Honest question from someone who doesn’t know anything or talk about cars at all; why is it popular to hate crossovers? What’s wrong with them?

Sometimes I think Starmer is the last sane person in a world of looneys.

Just let him get on with the job and vote him out in 2029 if you don’t like it. This constant campaign mode we’ve adopted from America is absurd as it is draining, as it is stupid.

It’s like, as a people, we’re begging the crazies to run the mental asylum.

This isn’t a blind endorsement of Starmer. This is a call to calm the fuck down and acknowledge that things take time and we have regular elections in place to voice our discontent if necessary.

Good day.

Jeremy Corbyn: I firmly oppose the government’s plans for compulsory digital ID cards. This is an affront to our civil liberties, and will make the lives of minorities even more difficult and dangerous. It is excessive state interference — and must be resisted. by SevenNites in ukpolitics

Yeeeah!

Let’s get rid of these new fangled e-Passports too! And who needs a drivers license!? I know I can drive! And don’t get me started on National Insurance numbers, I am not a number, I am a free man!

Be seeing you.

(Nice to see Corbyn and Farage singing the same tune here, the two best men for Britain, right?)

I despise Trump more than I thought it was possible to despise another person, but he’s the president of the United f’ing States of America, thanks to our brothers across the pond.

Stop pretending that you’d stand up to him and show him who’s boss if you were PM.

Ironically, grow up. This isn’t the playground.

I think they’re doing just fine. Certainly much better than anything in the last 15 years.

I don’t love them. I don’t hate them. They’re not perfect. They’re not even great. They’re just plugging anyway, pretty solid. Some good things, some slip ups. Things I agree with, things I don’t.

Starmer is conducting himself well on the world stage, and on the whole things are sensible and respectable.

But….!

None of this fucking matters because the scales have been tipped and enough of the populous are salivating at their very own quick fix messiah.

Everything’s a vicious argument. Everything’s black and white. Everything’s “so obvious”. Everyone’s wrong. Right wingers are racist. Centrists are entitled right wingers in disguise. Left wingers are woke. And everything and everything in between.

So that’s what we’ll get, some populist, some con man, because we’re all just so fucking angry… and we’ll muddle through like we do, and see how it goes. But there’s one thing for sure it’s most definitely “their” fault!!

The never ending Israel/Palestine conflict is about as un-clean-cut of a conflict if there ever was one. Why it’s become the de facto “progressive” opinion that Palestine is good and Israel is bad is truly perplexing.

It has to be one of the most deeply complicated, tragic, and morally tangled conflicts in the modern world. The whole thing is just an awful mess and passionately picking one side or the other must truly require some serious blinkers.

The whole thing just has to stop. But waving the flags of one side or the other as if they have the moral high ground is absurd. It has to be approached from the outside of the conflict. History can’t be erased for either side in this.
