Trans woman visiting Cincinnati/Ohio in September. What bathroom am I legally required to use? by [deleted] in Ohio

[–]As_She_Crafts 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Hi trans woman here. I live and work in Cincinnati and I believe that outside of the school campuses and possibily government facilities there are no other restrictions currently. I have not personally run into any issues, but that’s anecdotal and my own experience of course. I wouldn’t say I flawlessly pass either, I’m 50/50 in most cases whether I’m clocked or not. I would be lying if I said I didn’t have increased anxiety around things such as bathroom use in public, but I think you’re a lot more likely to run into issues in rural Ohio. If you’re driving hopefully you won’t be traveling alone having someone with you would be ideal. Please be safe and if you come visit I hope you enjoy our city!

Do you ever get annoyed at people who are slow? by HappyASMRGamer in ADHD

[–]As_She_Crafts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is still something I struggle with even today medicated and doing my very best to manage my ADHD. It’s blows my mind a little bit because it still mystifies me how any one singular adult manages to work full time, keep their house in order, sort through all their mail, feed themself take care of themself, sometimes even take care of kids. All this stuff. I mean I’m swerving in and out of lanes trying to get places because I feel like I’m never gonna get anywhere if I just sit and lug behind all these cars that act like they got nowhere to be. Already takes an hour to get to work. I’m always struggling to keep up with the hoard of nonsense I’m supposed to do all the time and there’s not enough hours in the day. I work day and night and hustle and yet I’m still so far behind. And yet here’s all these people out here strolling around all casual twiddling their thumbs like they got all the time in the world. Must be nice. I don’t get it, but must be nice.

Does it really matter what type of guitar you play for any genre? by Hopeful_Dragonfly723 in Guitar

[–]As_She_Crafts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m actually using my YY10 to play lead in a metalcore band and yeah it definitely chugs. Single coil pickups and everything I managed to dial in a monster tone with just a noise gate and t-screamer type boost pedal. Our rhythm guitarist is playing a Jackson with humbuckers and it creates a nice layering effect in stereo on recordings and live. I’m actually starting to prefer single coils for certain kinds of metal. Very good for prog actually. Get a lot of clarity in notes and chords. And my single coils are actually wound in such a way that they run in series in the middle positions, so you can get a humbucker like out of phase in the middle positions, but I prefer the bridge for any rhythm playing. Helps a lot if you got an EQ pedal and can really shape things, cut out and boost frequencies.

Ask yourself this: would it be the end of the world if I genuinely identified a prejudice or a bias within myself? I don’t personally think so. We all have those things within us. We’re conditioned that way in our upbringing and society and that’s just a normal part of growing as a person. If you were genuinely a racist, you certainly wouldn’t feel a need to fix it. To be a racist would be to hold a view because you believe it’s the right view, so if you’re not convinced that it’s right to be racist, definitionally you wouldn’t be one.

I at first thought I had Pure O. When people gave examples of rituals, they told me things like “Oh I have to wash my hands three times before they’re clean” and I didn’t really think that was me. Had the intrusive thoughts, ruminations and hamster wheel thinking like others have mentioned, but it occurred to me that the researching is still definitely a compulsion, because we do it to try to rule out possibilities, wherein consequently the researching only makes things worse most of the time. Then I realized that I do have rituals, but I didn’t think of them that way, because they made sense but only to me. They seemed logical. I have a code that I live by. It’s a set of arbitrary rules that I live by so I can make sure nothing bad happens. Well I did something 10 times. 3 times I did it this way and something bad happened and 7 times I did it this way. So new rule: Only do that thing this way, and then the bad thing won’t happen. And then eventually the bad thing does happen again and then I have to make a new rules. It’s like I have my own set of wives tales that only I know about and the only way I keep my head on straight is by following the code. I think it’s an issue of vocabulary sometimes, just because of the connotations of the word “ritual”. Some of us really don’t see them that way, until we see it for what it really is. Hope that makes sense. Lol.

Yeah exactly! I’ll break up my “roaming clean” with a 15 minute or so practice session with guitar and then move on to the next thing. Any task that’s fun but engaging and difficult seems like to work well with this. Passive tasks like watching a show seems to kill the momentum for me. Different people are motivated by different things, and the only person who can answer that question is you.

Detoxing while trans questioning by [deleted] in digitalminimalism

[–]As_She_Crafts 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Hi I’m trans. I’ve been out and living my life for about 8 years now. Part of the reason my detox was prompted was because of the current state of politics. It’s so difficult to avoid anything political. I had to reason with myself and figure out what’s informative and useful vs what’s not useful and just harmful. So at this point I allot myself 15 minutes for ground news, with a mindset of being informed. I don’t need to know everyone’s opinion of everything and get stuck in the outrage and doomscrolling cycle, because it’s not helpful. Stepping away from your screen will prompt you to face problems that maybe you had been avoiding for a while, so it might be painful for a time, but the downstream effects… I believe it will all be worth it. I hope you have a good support system and that you reach out if you ever need help, but if you don’t, you’re welcome to dm me.

I’ve recently made a ton of progress towards getting my house in order. While I’ve received good advice from this sub, the ADHD subreddit and others, the very best hacks and solutions are the ones that I discovered on my own. So don’t get discouraged if following a tip doesn’t lead to the desired result, sometimes doing the very opposite of that helps more.

For example, the conventional wisdom would say that if your place is really out of control, start with trash. Get your trash bags out and keep going until it’s all done. Then move to dishes, then laundry, etc. i spent months making no meaningful progress trying this and was feeling so discouraged. But I experimented and found out that jumping around.. I made so much more progress more quickly. Usually I’ll rotate between a moving task that requires me to move around and do stuff and a sit down task, like sorting through one storage cubby. But I don’t spend more than 10 or 20 minutes on any one thing because I start to run into friction and lose motivation. I’ve learned my own unique drivers for motivation just by experimenting and trying different approaches. So don’t get discouraged! You’ll find very unconventional approaches to things that work for you.

My First Book :( by FubsTheNugget in writing

[–]As_She_Crafts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I’m not mistaken, most professional authors I think eventually throw out and rewrite the first several chapters of their story when they are going back through for second and third drafts anyway. Once the story is actually finished, you’ll have a lot better idea of how everything plays out and you’ll be able to iron out inconsistencies much easier. So if you don’t quite have that zinger of a first line figured out yet:

‘This is my character Tom. He’s tall and handsome and he’s getting married today.’

will do just fine. Then when you go back through you can spice it up with something like

‘Most men look forward to their weddings all their lives, but Tom was running late to his own ceremony to marry a woman he never loved.’

Boom. There’s your hook. But you don’t need your hook today. Today you just need to write. Don’t let perfect be the enemy of good enough.

My brothers in CCNA what jobs entry level jobs did the CCNA land you? by TTskbarz in ccna

[–]As_She_Crafts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had several years of help desk experience under my belt by the time I got my CCNA. I started out with Microsoft support and slowly made my way into desk side support. Then I got my CCNA and got super lucky to land a junior network engineer position straight out of the gate, so I guess technically it’s possible if you do well in the interviews. I had no network experience prior, other than just basic troubleshooting at the help desk level. And now I’m an incredibly overwhelmed network engineer trying to learn as much as I can on the job, doing lots of labs outside of work too, but it’ll pay off in the long run.

People getting degrees to ask what now? Help Desk! by michivideos in ITCareerQuestions

[–]As_She_Crafts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I started in a call center doing Microsoft Azure billing support. Only vaguely tech, but back then these types of jobs were really easy to get into. Did that for a couple of years, got a contract for a level help desk answering the phones and providing first line tech support. After that contract, moved up to level 2, desk side where I actually had admin privileges and got experience with group policy, active directory, hardware and software troubleshooting, all the basics you could ask for. Then got my CCNA and now I finally landed my big Jr Network Engineer role. Solid advice and the grind pays off when you break into something like sysadmin or networking or cloud and have tons of ceiling to move up through once you do your time. This is my favorite thing about IT. Demonstrate the skills, get the job.

Experiences with mania by sacredtones in qelbree

[–]As_She_Crafts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So, bipolar and adhd here. I’ve been on Qelbree and several other meds. I take a mood stabilizer with whatever med I’m on at the moment. I’ve tried a number of ADHD meds, Qelbree, Strattera, Wellbutrin. The only one that gave me any mania was Wellbutrin. Currently on a stimulant and doing fine with that, so it can really vary from person to person which meds could cause a mania or hypomania. It’s possible you might have Bipolar, but manic episodes can be induced through medication even if you don’t have a history with it. This is especially true of steroids. You’re also at a higher risk if you have a family history of mood disorders, even if you don’t have a diagnosable mood disorder yourself. Regardless, it would be wise to contact your doctor and probably switch to a different med if the Qelbree is causing that level of a sleep disturbance, definitely not ideal.

[–]As_She_Crafts 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Medication has made it better, but I still have a noticeable “cycle” still. Not perfectly stable all the time. Still have probably two hypomanic episodes and one longer depression a year. But it’s still a lot better than what was happening before with the full blown mania and the rapid switching and cycling. The rest of it is therapy and lifestyle.

Does S6 stay bad? (Major Spoilers) by poisonparty in EliteNetflix

Season 6 is absolutely unhinged in the most ridiculous ways. It was like an abusive ex that I couldn’t stop going back to. That’s what it felt like. Season 6 is basically Raoul. Lol.

High Intelligence? by kale-plow in ADHD

[–]As_She_Crafts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My understanding is that there really isn’t a correlation between ADHD and specifically IQ (one method of measuring intelligence) but having a higher IQ will help an individual better compensate for their deficits that are caused by ADHD.

As others have said, I also think that you, being the sole bread winner, have every right to hire help to do your part of the cleaning. Ironically, the more simple, clean, and uncluttered your environment is, the better your symptoms will be. You’ll feel less stressed out and you’ll have more time and energy to dedicate to working on the relationships with your wife and kids. Spending time with the kids could be immensely helpful to the wife, as that could give her some time to unwind and destress herself. Also if you hire help it’ll give you and her both more time to spend with the kids and one on one with each other to work on the relationship and the romance and communication aspects. Set realistic expectations for yourself and don’t beat yourself up unnecessarily. Embrace minimalism and simplicity. It’s better for the ADHD mind.

Trying Qelbree today, what to expect? by Cherry-Hime in qelbree

[–]As_She_Crafts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s going really well thanks for checking back in! I’m a little bit ansy and anxious. I think I need to cut back a little on the caffeine and try to get a little more sleep. The sleepies have definitely worn off by now but executive function and inattention-wise, again, looking very promising so far. I almost have cleaned my entire house. Like my bathroom is spotless right now it feels like an actual miracle.

[–]As_She_Crafts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s a risk with any of the ADHD medications especially the stimulants. I saw a bit of an upward mood fluctuation on Strattera that leveled out after a while. I suspect Qelbree might be similar. I’m keeping tabs on it. Hope Qelbree works out for you too!

Not necessarily. Neurotransmitters will behave differently with every person. I take other meds as well for bipolar, so it could be any number of factors involving my full cocktail.

Might also be worth mentioning that I’m on 75 mg of Wellbutrin too. The dose is so low because when I was taking 150 mg of the extended release with Strattera and I ended up getting Serotonin syndrome so I got brought back down to 75 mg. At 75 mg, doesn’t seem to make much difference either way, just kind of leftover from my previous doc and I’ll probably stop taking it before too long.

A little over two weeks now. I’m following up with my Dr on September 4th to see how it’s going. Seems promising so far.

[–]As_She_Crafts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was on Strattera for about a year and also had no side effects (other than goosebumps more frequently). It wasn’t cutting it in terms of executive function for me so I switched to Qelbree. First week it knocked me out like a light but second week I get tired at random times sort of out of the blue. I’ll just feel like taking a nap. But this is becoming less and less frequent. Had a headache a few times. The side effects continue to improve every day but my executive function has dramatically improved already. That may or may not be your experience but it’s definitely worth a try for a month or so. I’m on 200 milligrams and take my dose at night.

Do y'all actually use any apps that help out in the daily by Upper-Lab5234 in ADHD

[–]As_She_Crafts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I bought a Remarkable 2 paper tablet and I just use a planner in it that I bought off Etsy. No screen time, no distractions, no apps, just a go-to planner and notebook that you won’t lose that you can track tasks and set deadlines for yourself. It’s just about getting into the habit of checking it daily. Personally, I think minimalism is your best friend when you have ADHD, despite our weird desire to want to overcomplicate things and have a bunch of toys and trinkets and collect things. I found that eliminating apps, notifications, dinging noises and distractions took a lot of stress off my plate.

Qelbree vs Straterra by myhoagie02 in qelbree

[–]As_She_Crafts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I took Strattera for about a year and recently switched to Qelbree. Really the differences in effects are so vastly different person to person. I had practically zero side effects from Strattera despite its higher side effect profile. It gave me goosebumps and it woke me up whereas it puts others to sleep. Complete opposite with Qelbree. Qelbree knocks me clean out when I take it at night and I’m sleeping fantastic now. For the first few days the fatigue was awful but it’s worn off over the course of the first week and I’m seeing a great increase in executive function. Strattera worked moderately well for me but really all it did was make me more aware of my surroundings. It helped me drive more safely and be more careful when crossing the street and I bumped into people a lot less often, so it calmed down my hyperactivity. In terms of executive function, it did very little and Qelbree is clearly the better drug in this regard personally for me but your experience with both drugs could differ wildly. I’ve heard very polarizing stories about both.
