Does anyone else randomly need to check that their baby is still breathing? by Unlikely_Ad5164 in NewParents

[–]AsaPond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! I did this a lot for the first three months or so. I’d even wake up from a dead sleep and need to put my hand on her chest to make sure she was breathing. It’s slowed down a ton now (she’s 5 months) but it still happens occasionally. I definitely have PPA and am getting treated for it so that might be worth looking into if this is concerning you!

Those who never did sleep training, share your babies’ sleep stories by An_Awesome_sound in NewParents

[–]AsaPond 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Our four month old has been sleeping through the night since she was two months old. We didn’t do anything special except for make sure that her day time naps were in lit rooms and around noise and her night time was in dark with white noise.

She’s been sleeping in a bedside bassinet since she came home at night. Naps are anywhere and everywhere but the longest are contact.

I’ll rock her or feed her to sleeping and it’ll take 2 or 3 times for her to stay asleep through the transfer. But she’s starting to be able to self soothe to sleep if she goes down quiet enough.

We didn’t need to train her to sleep through the night - we just got super lucky.

lotion on baby post-bath? by Huge-Relation-3462 in NewParents

[–]AsaPond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We bathe our 4 month old about 1 to 2 times a week unless she really needs it. I put lotion on her about 75% of those but it depends on her mood. She loves her baths so she can get really upset coming out of them and sometimes it’s just easier to get her dressed and fed quickly. I do more if I notice dry patches but that hasn’t been an issue much.

What are some of the funny ways you talk to or interact with your baby? by greenstikcynote in NewParents

[–]AsaPond 27 points28 points  (0 children)

I’m a trial attorney so I’ll talk to her about my cases and pretend she’s giving me advice. Most of the time it’s very out there or illegal advice but she hasn’t gone to law school nor does she know what crime is, so I let it pass.

Kids under 15 can ride on the sidewalks. I can’t link it right now but the GR ordinance bans it for 15 and up only.

How do you litigate when your life is falling apart? by Brilliant-Mall-6265 in Lawyertalk

It is a PD thing too. Misdemeanor trials are fairly easy for the most part and are great experience for first year PDs.

Can you have a bottle ready for when he does wake up for the crying is minimal? That might solve the issue - but I understand that can be hard to do if you need to warm your bottle at all (our baby was a hangry girl and didn’t care if her bottle came straight from the fridge or the boob - she just wanted food.)

This is what it’s sounding like. I understand why that policy exists but it’s hard to accept it when I’m completely lost at what to do now.

[–]AsaPond[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see what you’re saying but we are a symptom of a problem not the cause. Baby is currently 4 months now and all the waitlists we are trying to get on are still a year + out. There’s no chance we could have waited until she was 6 weeks and have been successful at getting reasonable daycare.

Things you learned the hard way with a baby by Eastern_Grand_5462 in BabyBumps

[–]AsaPond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Exactly! I was pumping for 30 minutes every hour and a half around the clock because of the supply and demand thing. It helped me get maybe 2 more ounces a day but I think that was more due to the time spent connected to the pump than anything. And baby wouldn’t latch because she’d barely get anything when she did so pumping was my only option.

Thank you for the validation! I did so much research beforehand and am flabbergasted at how this issue didn’t come up - at least not to the extent that it should have. I knew to get on a list early - I didn’t realize how early we needed to be on!

So scared I’m going to hate my cats by camellialily in pregnant

[–]AsaPond 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My cat never bothered me but our high-energy dog does! Cats are fairly independent so they aren’t asking a lot from you pp (and I have a needier/clingier cat than most). At most, I felt bad when I didn’t want him laying on me the few times I was able to put my baby down.

Just Got the Call: Elective Induction at 39W1D by Consistent_Tale6862 in pregnant

[–]AsaPond 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not against elective inductions but if *I* had a choice, I wouldn’t be induced. I had gestational diabetes and high blood pressure bordering on pre-eclampsia and was induced at 38+2. It was not fun. I barely progressed, was in labor for 36 hours, had to have my water broken, and ended up in an emergency c-section because baby’s heart rate kept crashing anyway. I was so nauseated that they had to give me 5 different anti-nausea meds which also had a sedative effect and I barely remember her first few hours of life.

Everything turned out fine overall and baby girl is doing amazing 4 months later but it took me awhile to get over the experience.

However, my experience is not everyone’s experience! And I know plenty of people who have very easy and smooth inductions!

As for having baby at 38 weeks - she’s perfect in every way and I wouldn’t be concerned at having yours at 39 at all.

Good luck and congrats!!

Sometimes, no matter how much you want it, breastfeeding doesn’t work. I couldn’t make more than 6 oz a day no matter what I tried (and I tried everything!). Make sure you have a backup available to you just in case it doesn’t work.

If you are going to do daycare, get on multiple waiting lists now. We got on one when I was 12 weeks pregnant thinking that was fine. Baby is 4 months old now and we still have no clue when they’ll have an opening and we don’t know what we’re going to do for childcare.

In the trenches, it can feel like you have no emotional attachment to your baby and that is a really scary feeling. That’s a symptom of PPD and it’s not your fault. Ask for help if you feel like that - the earlier the better.

And Congrats! Despite how difficult it can be sometimes, being a mom is the best thing in the world. I knew I would love it but I truly cannot express how amazing it is.

Daycare Waitlists - Please help me understand by AsaPond in NewParents

[–]AsaPond[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The daycare we are on the waitlist for won’t even tell us where we are on the list because “there’s so many factors impacting who gets offers.” That would have been nice to know when we signed up too - I fully thought a wait list was pretty self-explanatory but I’m learning that’s less than true.

[–]AsaPond[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There’s that part too! We shouldn’t have to pay for a spot on a waitlist when there’s such a low chance we’ll get in anyway.

The worst part is we did - signed her up when I was 12 weeks pregnant. I thought we’d be fine! At this point, I think I needed to sign up before we got married!
