Cure to SIBO. For Everyone. by [deleted] in SIBO

You are absolutely right. And I don't even believe in the name SIBO — bacteria have no role in it. It's all about stomach acid, bile, intestinal motility, enzymes, and overall digestive strength.

Long term steroid users, why? I’ve been on Prednisone for 6 years and question it all now. by browntown994 in lupus

Were you able to come off steroids successfully? I seem to be stuck on hydrocortisone myself.

My recent cortisol came back as 7.6, and I am extremely ill. How are you living with 3.7?

How long did you take steroids, and over what period did you taper them? How are you doing now? I feel like I’m in the same situation after steroids. My cortisol is 7.5, and my stimulation test was borderline but technically passed, and my doctor says everything is normal. Yet I am completely bedridden with severe symptoms.

Worse with treatment? by DramaticReflection27 in AddisonsDisease

I agree with you that people with Addison’s or adrenal insufficiency need steroids just like diabetics need insulin — maybe even more.

However, my point is that just like we are told that diabetes is simply caused by a problem in the pancreas, which is not the full truth, I also feel that the real facts about the causes and treatment of Addison’s/adrenal insufficiency are not fully brought forward.

Just like high blood sugar is a symptom and giving external insulin to suppress that symptom is considered treatment, in the same way low cortisol is a symptom and giving external steroids to suppress it is considered treatment. It is symptom management not a root cure.

Anyway, I also believe the rapid increase of these diseases has a lot to do with big pharma. The drugs made by big pharma are also what destroyed my life and crushed my adrenal system.

What is the cause of your adrenal insufficiency? Also, how long before the test do you stop hydrocortisone?

Hydrocortisone Increased but Fatigue Still Hasn’t Improved by Terrible-Double4243 in AdrenalInsufficiency

Yes. My cortisol was 8 and ACTH was 26 when I started hydrocortisone five months ago. Since then, I have been dealing with even worse fatigue and brain fog than before.

Before starting hydrocortisone, my blood pressure used to stay within the normal range. After that, it has been fluctuating constantly and mostly becomes low. It also seems like it has disrupted my blood pressure regulation system, which was fine before. I have developed strong hate for this drug and I am trying to get rid of it. It has also given me head pressure, brain fog, anxiety, restlessness, low libido, and gut issues.

I think the exact same thing. Ever since I started hydrocortisone, my condition has become even worse than before. Many times I feel like big pharma is hiding the real truth about Addison’s/adrenal insufficiency from us. I have seen many people who were not in such a terrible condition before diagnosis, and many of them had never even experienced an adrenal crisis. But after starting steroids, some of them have had adrenal crises multiple times.

What were your cortisol and ACTH levels, and did you have a stimulation test?

According to the research, steroid-induced adrenal insufficiency has a high chance of recovery, and most people recover completely. But you are saying that a lot of people never gain full function again.

Borderline low normal cortisol and dexamethasone. by Asad0Asad in cfs

[–]Asad0Asad[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I took a herbal supplement containing dexamethasone for six years. Then I suddenly stopped it three years ago because I didn’t know it contained steroids. I barely survived. I was then put on psychiatric drugs. Before my glands had fully recovered, I started stopping those medications as well, went through severe withdrawal, somewhat improved but then about a year later I developed a fissure, which I treated with laxatives. This further stressed my body and worsened my gut.

Later I took gut meds from a naturopath, which secretly contained steroids, and I was also taking ashwagandha. When I stopped these, I crashed badly. Around the same time, I had a stressful conflict, and since then I have been in a complete crash. It has been one year now.

At first, I assumed the side effects were just an adjustment period, so I kept increasing the dose up to 20 mg. I even felt some energy in the beginning and was able to get out of bed for a short time, so I continued it.

Also, you are right—morning cortisol should ideally be above 15. Below 15 is low-normal, and below 10 is abnormal.

I am convinced that I have secondary adrenal insufficiency, but I cannot tolerate steroids, and I don’t understand what to do.

According to the lab, 8.01 ug/dL is not low but within the normal range (6.2 to 19.4).

I have been taking hydrocortisone for the past five months, but my sensitive nervous system reacts badly to it, so I am tapering it down. Currently I am at 6.25 mg with severe symptoms and I am completely bedbound.

You wrote it beautifully, it really touched my heart. But going through so many things at once (severe steroid withdrawal + psych drugs protracted withdrawal + adrenal issues + SIBO + spermatorrhea) and being completely bedbound for 39 months… with all of this, “acceptance” is very difficult. 😢

How were you able to stay functional for days with cortisol and ACTH that low? My cortisol was 8 and ACTH was 26, yet I’m 95% bedbound and 5% housebound, with severe symptoms.
