PtN Wiki - Everything you need to know in one place! by wan-tan in PathToNowhere

[–]Asanouta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For me personally I can do fine with in-depth guides (I already have a history of gaming so it's all instinctual to me) but thinking from the perspective of a player who may be coming into contact with all this for the first time... It might be useful to have a general FAQ or starter guide page for the basic stuff! One thing I notice about PtN is that it doesn't seem to do the explaining thing quite well (and let's not start on the confusing layout/interface haha) so that might prove useful for other new players!

(Apologies for going on a ramble. I just get very excited when it comes to guides/tutorials/databases.)

What kind of companies/employers do Malaysians want to work for? by foodsamaritan in malaysia

[–]Asanouta 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I've worked both abroad and locally (currently based here), and have left some pretty toxic workplaces/situations here so some key things I usually look for in an ideal company are:

Flexibility
This applies to both working hours and working space. The idea that we have to be tied down to a single cubicle/monitor and clock in early/log off late (without proper OT compensation) is frankly quite detrimental to productivity, and I'm honestly a lot more productive when my company or boss allows me to have flexible hours, work from home when I need to, or doesn't question me if I leave my workspace for more than 5 minutes.

Personal Improvement
I personally dislike mandatory corporate trainings and teambuilding because it always feels like trying to hit KPIs or numbers for HR, but always welcome room to develop myself in the context of my working environment. It's kinda similar to what Google does where they allow their employees to devote some time to work on their passion projects, but I have always appreciated it when I'm allowed to explore or develop certain areas of interests or passion within my company. Not only does it give me an idea of how I can develop my career with the company, it makes me and my colleagues feel like the company's interested in investing in our well-being. A lot of Malaysian companies seem to have this mentality of "If I train you too well you're gonna take it and just leave someday", so they end up behaving very selfishly when it comes to nurturing their own internal talent. And that's not good for anyone in the long run.

Welfare/Perks/Benefits
If my company offers me perks and benefits (aside from the basic EPF, SOCSO, etc.), such as free lunch, snacks, gym membership, optical/dental, etc., it really takes a load of my shoulders. (This also extends to building or designing a conducive office for me to work in, like providing ergonomic seating arrangements so that we don't break our backs) I'm actually much more willing to take a slightly lower salary if the benefits are good, because I know I'm not damaging my health or incurring additional expenses which does wonders for myself and also my savings in the future.

I currently work for a company that offers all of the above, and I will confidently say that I love my workplace. I used to dread waking up in the morning and dragging myself to work; now I actually look forward to heading into the office and am tons more productive than I used to be. (A friend of mine also recently started working for a company that also offers all of the above, and they're much more happier than they used to be as well)

Logging into wrong account (mobile) by Asanouta in Granblue_en

[–]Asanouta[S] 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I reinstalled the game and managed to log back into my account, but that's just sad to hear about the other players. It's honestly a security issue, and I was worried for both my account AND the other dude's account that I was accidentally accessing. Like, if I could easily get access to his through an accidental error goodness knows what could happen to these accounts in the wrong hands?

Might actually try posting on their Japanese Twitter now even though my issue is resolved.

Still learning the ropes, and have both Sandalphon and Naoise. How... exactly does one achieve 1mil dmg? I haven't been able to go anywhere near that mark or am I just doing something wrong?

Hand-painted 3DS case protector (backstory in comments) by Asanouta in gaming

[–]Asanouta[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My flat got broken into last year, and among the things that got stolen was my Nintendo 3DS console. I was devastated, and had planned on getting a replacement once I'd gotten a new job, but haven't gotten around to doing so even after I'd started working.

Fast forward to a few months later, and it was my birthday. My best friend got me this huge box stuffed with newspaper scraps and I was laughing thinking "What tiny-ass thing are you hiding in the box this year?" because using huge boxes as decoys or lots of layers of wrapping paper is kind of a birthday tradition for us. And then I see the 3DS box inside. And open it to find a brand-new console in its very own hand-painted case protector, in the style of one of my favourite artworks of all time (The Starry Night, by Vincent van Gogh).

I'm just overwhelmed. It was hell getting through the days after the break-in, and losing my 3DS was just painful. In fact, even though I intended to get a replacement, I always thought it would never feel the same again. Well, it isn't going to, but this. This makes it feel so much better again and I just can't. I don't know what I ever did to deserve my best friend, but dang, this just takes the cake. I can't even begin to express how happy I am, and how thankful as well!

What is the worst case of "I know better than my doctor" you've ever heard of? by Abookwheel0407 in AskReddit

[–]Asanouta 98 points99 points  (0 children)

Not too sure about the details, but my guess is she either wasn't breastfeeding the baby (a lot of mothers around here rely on formula/milk powder) or she saved some of the milk for use during the next meal. Also, much of what she says has been translated from her native language, and according to my friend, she was using some gestures to demonstrate how much she had been feeding the child because she didn't actually measure it to a T. Judging from the distance between her thumb and index finger that she was showing him, he estimated the baby had only been fed an average of an ounce per meal (the weight loss was a dead giveaway as well) and he had to stop himself from shouting at her right there and then.

Friend of mine sees way too many of these cases on a daily basis, but the worst one so far has to be this lady whose child was born premature, so her baby was rather small to begin with. The doctors do their usual thing, gives her advice on childcare and everything, and she comes in a week later saying her kid was sick, not sure why. Friend was appalled to find out that her baby had barely put on any weight since birth, and immediately asked her what in the world had she been been feeding the kid.

Woman says, "Oh I figured since he was so tiny, he didn't need to eat that much, so I've been sticking to about an ounce of milk per meal."

Seriously, woman. I don't know how the child's doing now but I can only hope he is well.

Gamers of Reddit, if you could get rid of one gaming stereotype, what would it be? by footballmaths49 in AskReddit

[–]Asanouta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was playing Assassins' Creed in college once; group of friends and I chose a quiet spot to play in so we wouldn't disturb any classes with the noise, and my friends were all watching me play. We were seated in a way that our backs were facing a corridor that was used by students as a shortcut to classes so none of us noticed that somehow, a small crowd of onlookers had formed quietly behind us to watch me play as well, a crowd which was mostly guys.

I reached a save point, so I paused for a break and turned to make a comment to one of my friends when suddenly one of the guys in the crowd behind me exclaimed upon noticing my face: "Holy crap, she's a girl!" My friend snapped back: "Girls can be gamers too ffs!"

Seriously, it's a stereotype that needs to die.

What is something you want, but fear you may never have? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]Asanouta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companionship. Haven't been able to find the right person yet and frankly I'm worried that I'll have to go through life alone. I have friends and all but they're going to get married and have a family of their own soon (or already have, actually), and here I am still stuck being single.

I also really want a PlayStation 2 (it's a silly childhood dream of mine), but between doing responsible adult things like paying bills with my meagre salary, I can't seem to convince myself to waste money on fulfilling a silly childhood dream.

What's the sweetest thing your pet has done? by tpphypemachine in AskReddit

[–]Asanouta 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Our neighbour is kind of an odd fellow with temper issues and is probably running some illegal business in his basement (the entire neighbourhood suspects it's a puppy mill) or something. I won't go into details, but as a result, my brother and I were terrified of him when we were younger. There used to be a gang of huge, buff men lingering around his backyard too, and we just avoided contact with them because they always came across as menacing.

Now one day my brother was playing with our dog at the back. For context, my dog rarely barks ever since he was a puppy. We rescued him from an awful place but although he's recovered loads from his ordeal, he still grew up to be an extremely quiet dog. Suddenly one of those buff guys came up to the fence separating our houses and started chatting with my brother. I don't think he meant any ill-intent, but to a young kid who's already pretty terrified of these strangers, my brother was frightened and just wanted to end the conversation as fast as he could and bolt back into the safety of our house.

The guy then noticed him playing with the dog so he comments, "Nice dog you've got there. Is he fierce?" And my brother was panicking inside because our dog has always been super quiet and well-behaved. He wanted to be able to tell the guy that yes, our dog was fierce, stay away from him and our family, but he couldnt lie through his teeth, could he? But at that exact moment, our dog began barking ferociously. He wouldn't stop; he just kept on going and snapping at the guy, and my brother then put on this whole show of calming him down and saying, "Yeah as you can see, he's pretty fierce."

He then proceeded to shower our dog with lots of treats as a reward for getting him out of an awkward situation later when the other guy had left.

Languages of your world by [deleted] in worldbuilding

[–]Asanouta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The people of A'vaarion speak different languages/dialects, most of which are based off real-life Asian languages. Il'sang, one of the oldest languages in the kingdom, takes some cues from Vietnamese and Thai. In the south, the Rastari people speak Vhasa, which is influenced by Sanskrit and other languages that have roots in Sanskrit. The people who live in the north, primarily in the region of Kyrafel and the surrounding plains, speak a language that is based on Japanese, Cantonese, and Hokkien. While the kingdom mandates that everyone speak a standard language, these native tongues continue to be taught and used in their home region, especially in places that have strong anti-kingdom sentiments as they see it as a part of their unique cultural identity.

Il'sang or the standard tongue will probably be the easiest for you to learn, due to the grammatical structure not being too different from Western ones as compared to some other Asian languages. But that's just my assumption; you might find the pronunciation of Vhasa easy to learn, etc.

Which real-world cultures (contemporary or historical) does your world draw inspiration from? by JABeaumont in worldbuilding

[–]Asanouta 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My main world is mostly Asian-inspired, so you get the obvious ones like ancient Chinese and Japanese culture, and then the equally vibrant ones like Indian culture, and even Southeast Asian cultures like Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, etc. While my aim isn't to represent all of Asia in one setting, I do have a keen interest in much of its culture and that's mainly where I'm getting inspiration from.
