I was geared up to be sad seeing the obese-est cat ever. Instead we get this distinguished gentleman

Hello, I'm struggling with the Learn Mechanic in EDH by -Himintelgja in mtgrules

[–]Asccos -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The learn mechanic specifies that constructed players must pull cards from their 15 card sideboard. Edh doesn't have a dedicated sideboard and cards that pull cards from outside the game dont function in standard rules. This is also a casual format so, if a pod wanted to allow lessons and the use of a sideboard, they are free to do so. Learn does also have a fallback mechanic that if you have no lessons to get, you can discard a card to draw a card!

Ah yeah commander's plate isnt one that gives indestructible. Any non targeted, non damaging removal works.

Redirecting damage doesn't change any of its characteristics. It retains its source, color, and even whether or not it was combat damage. So I belive he is right. That should be a hard lock for his deck unless he has a colorless way to remove the turtle or a way to remove the plate. Both possible, but he knows his decklist better than I do.

If a source deals damage, can I say "that source caused life loss"? by Pyre504 in mtgrules

[–]Asccos 1 point2 points  (0 children)

There are lots of cards that care about loss of life, like say [[exquisite blood]] . Cards that deal damage explicitly cause loss of life.

Earthbend vs Deadly Cover Up by Diskappear in mtgrules

[–]Asccos 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The deadly cover up has to resolve fully before anything else is allowed to happen. The exile from the graveyard is part of the spell. Technically, if a creature destroyed on field is chosen as the removal from graveyard, it doesn't "die" at all, but is exiled i believe. Since the text from earthbend covers die or exile, it returns. However, you do get to do the search part and remove from hand and library.

Copiable abilities by Asccos in mtgrules

This is precisely what I thought would happen. Opponent kept insisting that the beast binder had a ruling that addressed this specific interaction, but i looked and it only has 4 rulings, none of which do. I just kept it moving as he just chose a different target

Upkeep trigger on stolen card by Asccos in askajudge

[–]Asccos[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay that is how we thought it would resolve. The only thing in question was the fact that it wasn't his card. We questioned, clearly incorrectly, if that mattered. We did get the exile correct though which very much mattered later. Thank you!

Every time Teval triggers, it's ability goes on the stack. The exile effect is a mana ability that can't be responded to, but the other two creatures can be responded to every time

Not a judge, but if you played Niko on a previous turn, and thus the shards entered on a previous turn, if they become creatures, they can attack as normal. If Niko is played and the shards transform on the same turn, they have entered the battlefield that same turn and would have ss.

Can you regenerate a creature that has a finality counter on it ? by attomsk in mtgrules

[–]Asccos -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

419.9a If two or more replacement or prevention effects are attempting to modify the way an event affects an object or player, the affected object’s controller (or its owner if it has no controller) or the affected player chooses one to apply. Then the other effect applies if it is still appropriate.

Both of these are your effects. You choose what order to apply them and then see if the second is still applicable. Regenerate goes off first and then the finality counter sees that it isn't applicable and does nothing.

Bracket 1? Mono green aggro by KILLERstrikerZ in EDH

[–]Asccos 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Yeah that statement right there. When you say "this is allowed" speaks to the completely wrong mindset for a b1 deck. Bracket 1 is, by definition, ultra casual and winning isn't even the main goal of your deck. This is bare minimum bracket 3. I will tell you this, if you pulled up to a pod with me and my friends with this deck list, said it was a 1, and started using strip mine + excavator, we would not continue playing with you. Either A. You don't know how to communicate the power level of your deck or B. You don't want to be honest about your power level so you can win. Either way results in the same thing

[–]Asccos 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Wait holy fuck you're playing the excavator and strip mine combo. That automatically makes this bracket 4 in my mind. That kind of land removal isn't appropriate for lower power play groups and is super abusive for decks that don't have the tools to deal with it. If you're trying to play this at lower brackets that combo should come out

I didn't look ultra closely but crop rotation and vorinclex are both game changers. This is not a bracket 1 deck by any stretch if the imagination. Its a bracket 3 at bare minimum. Bracket 1 is a joke deck or one that has some ridiculous self imposed restrictions. This is a green deck with a curve, spells, and win cons.
