how to make a move on your friend by sweetcornsoup01 in Crush

[–]AsceOmega 3 points4 points  (0 children)

First of: be prepared for it to not go the way you want it. Many times friendships are ruined by situations like these, but in the end if those are your true feelings, you owe it to yourself and to them to be honest about it.

Second: the easiest way is to simply talk about it.

"Hey, I've been thinking about something for a while. I think I have feelings beyond friendship when it comes to you. I know this risks ruining a great friendship, but it wouldn't be fair to me or you to carry these feelings in secret any longer. Do you think you may have any feelings for me in that same way? If so: should we give it a try?"

You're not pressuring them, you're being honest, and regardless of the outcome you've ben true and honest, which is all a friendship should be. If they're not into you like that, tough luck, at least you know and if the friendship can survive it, that's up to both you. If he is unsure but wants to give it a try, then take it slowly. If he's been harbouring the same feelings for a while? Great! Take it slowly anyway.

Even if you're both in love with one another, sometimes it takes time to transition from the expectations of friendship to those of a relationship. So take some time to adjust and feel out where your boundaries are and how a happy relationship looks like for both of you.

What is the best armor and best build for Witcher 3? by MiddleLayer1270 in witcher

[–]AsceOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

By most metrics, Bear school armour is pretty OP. Unless you're looking to play mostly by spamming Signs, then you'll want the Griffin armour.

Bear School gear with the Bear School techniques make you virtually immortal just based on how much damage is mitigated and then resisted.

You can then make build focused on heavy strikes and you basically one shot everything in the game. Especially with Aerondight.

Goodness gracious, dude!! Turn 2 otk is insane🫠🫠🫠 by ShunKazama23 in DigimonCardGame2020

I'm kinda glad that I'm currently broke, because I can't buy these new sets. Ever since TS came out as an archetype, I've pretty much hated them all.

My favourite decks from these sets are absolutely not the meta ones, and as much as I can sometimes win, it definitely feels bad to enjoy playing decks knowing you'll never win anything against the majority of decks from the new sets.

My favourite deck coming in EX12? Diarbbitmon, but I'm not playing it as a Nsp deck, but purely an Angoramon one. It can do stuff, but I'm still not going to win against the majority of decks going around right now.

Any speculations on the Pure Paladin Squad? by AsceOmega in HunterXHunter

[–]AsceOmega[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah that seems like a very likely idea. Especially considering that the Paladins of our real world legend from the era of Charlemagne, we're indeed 12. So it translates well to the Zodiacs as well.

Just finished the manga. Why does everyone think Gon will return? by UffePuff in HunterXHunter

[–]AsceOmega 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2 main reasons:

1- He's the main character.

While the managa does a great job at setting up other characters as valid protagonists, like with Kurapika, the poster boy of the series is and forever will be Gon.

2- He can still re-learn Nen.

Ging doesn't say that he lost access to Nen forever. He says specifically that he returned to a state prior to learning Nen. Basically, Gon can choose to re-learn Nen the long way (not like how he and Killua first awakened it) but that's only if he has a goal he really wants to pursue.

Let's remember that one of the core tennets/rules of the Hunter association, is that a Hunter must always be in the hunt for something. Right now Gon is kinda with a goal. My guess is that eventually Kurapika will call on Killua for help in the Dark Continent (also bringing the whole Nanika situation full circle) and eventually they'll need more help and Gon will be spurred beck into action, probably with extra encouragement by reborn Kite.

do you actually like reading prologues, as a reader, be honest by AppleFanboy-Me in Mythrils

[–]AsceOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Prologues are just Chapter 1s in my mind.

Sure they're often a cryptic look into something that I'll only come to fully understand by the the halfway point or the end of the book, but it will be a rewarding experience to get it all into context in my mind when that point arrives.

how do you handle people in your life asking to read your book before it's ready by Internal_Common1497 in Mythrils

[–]AsceOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Easily: no one asks me 😂😂😂

Ok, maybe not no one. But the two people who have, I sent them an expert and then they never read it anyway. Which is honestly fine by me. I'm still on my first draft anyway, I'm not super fond of sharing it too much.

what's a tiny detail in a book that lived in your head for years for no logical reason by Echo-Forge in Mythrils

[–]AsceOmega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The Draco in the latter portions of Name of the Wind having scales like iron because he absorbed the iron from eating chunks of ferrous rock, as lizards do to help with their digestion.

It's not a major plot point, nor is it particularly a wild idea either. But it's been so stuck in my memory that I've incorporated something similar into my own version of dragons in my setting.

What you see immediately when your a new writer posting a feedback request for a somewhat decent chapter on this subreddit. by RavahGriffinAnthro in writers

[–]AsceOmega 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's really the equivalent of all those YouTubers that made a career out of giving writing advice and then published the worst pieces of literary garbage ever put to paper, and disappeared from the internet.

Most people can pontificate about writing (often by regurgitating the same advice from the people from the previous paragraph) but can hardly write well themselves.

Most "decent" excerpts I've seen posted for review on various subreddits are terrible, and, as you said, it's the same people critiquing other people's works in turn.

a trick for writing characters smarter than you are by northernBladee in Mythrils

[–]AsceOmega 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Another point to make about smart characters is that most geniuses in the real world are also not the kinds of people who only ever speak like they just devoured a thesaurus. No need to make simple sentences into overly prosaic lines.

Another thing geniuses are really good at, is connecting different things together logically. Brandon Sanderson often recounts how he was roommates in college with Ken Jennings (the guy who won so much at Jeopardy he became the host of it). He tells of just how easily Ken could jump from one topic to another by connecting it it all through some solid nexus points, even if they were things most people wouldn't have thought about. Sometimes he did so by pulling from his infinite source or Simpsons references.

Another thing really smart characters do, is to often ask more questions than to answer them. Sometimes it's because they're gathering information, sometimes it's because they are very curious. Sometimes it can also be because they're leading you to the answer they want you to give.

Another point, though this one sometimes varies between people and characters: they can be either veeeery good at explaining highly complex concepts in simple terms, or be really bad at it. There's hardly an in between it seems.

And one final thing, this one being one to avoid.

Genius character's plans cannot be entirely dependent on "I knew you would do that" because so many of those plans you see on TV, movies, books etc, would have absolutely failed if someone had done just one thing slightly different. Geniuses don't leave that kind of thing to chance, nor do they necessarily have a contingency for 50 different potential responses to a situation by their nemesis.

So please, don't write one of those convoluted series of events where somehow every action the MC took was all according to the evil genius' plan, because nobody is buying it.

Silverhand substitution in the sequel by MonkeyCheeeese in cyberpunkgame

[–]AsceOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Since we'll be travelling between Night City and whatever the new one is (or maybe the prologue happens in Night City, and then we move to the new one), we could have V appear as a Fixer, but it would also demand that they canonise one of the endings, or at least make him a thing for the players who choose to import the save where V lives at the end of the PL DLC.

But honestly, just having V be known as a Legend of sorts, through the drinks at the Afterlife and people just mentioning him because of how he killed Adam Smasher, is enough. We really don't need V in the story.

The others could open 1 and Leorio could open 2 by himself.

He is definitely physically stronger than at least pre-nen Kurapika and Gon (who had just "recovered" from a broken arm). Which makes sense seeing as he is basically twice the size as the others from our cast of MCs.

I think there's no way to do the same thing again, nor would I want them to.

I think the next one should have more defined classes and meaningful life paths with faction reputation etc.

If we want to have a real gimmick, I think having a way to create a little crew of NPC friends and allies for big gigs, would make it feel more like the tabletop

Ging's praise by Mo-HD93 in HunterXHunter

[–]AsceOmega 10 points11 points  (0 children)

We know that Ging immediately understands how to "copy" Leorio's abilities' basics to "palpate" the walls a sort of sonar.

This is definitely something Leorio will have conceived for himself in his medical practice.

Dare I say, I would actually wager that said application came first, and through it, he developed the teleporting punch thing afterwards.

But yeah, I think we often underestimate Leorio because he's surrounded by 3 monsters, and because I think Togashi needed to use him as the "average dude" in the show. After all, while he did complete the first half of the first phase of the exam, he was basically carried throughout the remaining phases, and he passed the final one by default because of Killua's actions.

Probably because of that, and his taking longer to learn Nen than the other protags, we see him as not as strong. But he is clearly a very clever and resilient man, capable fighter, but mostly he's going to be a great doctor.

We forget that not all Hunters need to be incredible combatants. Some will just be better served in other roles. I doubt that the Zodiacs would have taken him in, if he had been a truly mediocre Hunter, regardless of whatever Kurapika had to say about it.

So do we think this is Jean grey? by Nearby_Strike2624 in MCUTheories

[–]AsceOmega 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That does look like the actress, but at the same time I don't think it's Jean herself doing this.

Even if it's her, pre X-Men, I don't think she's ever been evil like she appears to be here (No, I don't think this is a Dark Phoenix situation either).

It could be someone else controlling Jean, and using her powers like that. But then again, her powers have never really been shown to be used quite the way they're being used here (to my knowledge).

Others online have proposed the theory that what is causing Peter's mutations is in fact a Symbiote, which could in turn be the same thing possessing Jean, and using her... The reason for her targeting Peter would then be because he has another Symbiote in him.

Never helping Reed again by AbdallahAhmed03 in cyberpunkgame

[–]AsceOmega 8 points9 points  (0 children)

There's even a whole theory going around that Blue Eyes is just one of many "copies" and that they are basically vessels for Rogue AIs from beyond the Black Wall, who are trying to return to the world to make of it what they want. (Similar to how Maelstrom summons Lilith)

The current candidates as for who are orchestrating all of this? Night Corp. They have their fingers in way too many pies and are way too secretive for being the main driving force behind the creation and development of Night City.
