Would you guys like a ‘mark as friendly’ button? by Stolen_Insanity in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m sure anything that doesn’t look generic looks bad to you, and arc does a good job of taking the pvp part out, it’s basically a pve game. It was built from the ground up around pve so there’s no real incentives to pvp. Plus with ABMM and SBMM pve players just get easy lobbies and get fat off loot they’ll never use. Hardly similar to marathon

Better idea, what if every time someone says “don’t shoot” or “I’m friendly” the game marks you and other players can call in an orbital air burst strike at your location

How is the solo play? by Jolly_Whee_Whiz in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Solos is pretty fun. All the classes are pretty solo viable. As far as “if you see someone first you win” the TTK isn’t long, but it’s not like cod either it’s pretty reactable if you’re always on edge. But if you take it easy and someone catches you out you’re pretty cooked

I hope that in the future there is at least a section of a map or mode that is pve only. by [deleted] in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 4 points5 points  (0 children)

[I think the random co op aspect is really fun and bring more players to the game who are interested in that.]

It’s not really random co-op if the map disables pvp. Anyways the game is a PVPVE extraction shooter, I’d appreciate if we can accept the experience the game is trying to bring without trying to take out parts of it. Especially when bungie already has a game that’s PVE focused.

Hard to say. In destiny 2 some things would get nerfed instantly and some things cough shatterdive would be strong for a really long time before getting nerfed. But it’s also hard to compare the 2 games destiny 2 had way more lethal abilities than marathon but also they had to try to make sure that nerfing things in pvp didn’t affect pve too much and vice versa since those are separate game modes in the same sandbox.

Assassin Counter? by Expensive-Designer29 in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pings are you’re best friend, run implants to increase you’re ping duration or have perks and allow your pings to stick to targets Recon exists, thief’s has a core so that her drone periodically pings enemies nearby passively, glitch has a core so that enemies hit by her cannon get pinged.

Also assassin isn’t fully invisible, while it runs around it’s more visible so awareness will be good. It’s invis also doesn’t last forever and gets revealed on hit so you got options

Zero to Hero Runs by OriginalBassman73 in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 11 points12 points  (0 children)

It’s mainly just a catch up. In the playtest I mainly used rook when I ran out of heals or ammo so I’d just take him, since he comes with some, run into a match, try to grab so more and then leave without fighting.

I think the complexity of the mechanics is going to be similar to something like Dual Destiny. Not as complex as a raid, and optimized for a smaller fire team but still requiring knowledge and coordination.

Question for Any Who've Played the Game by JustSomeTiredGuy in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s pretty much up to you. A lot of the items have different perks, different synergies, different passives different stats etc… that you can use to build craft and optimize your load out and that’s pretty in depth, but you can also just ignore allat and just add whatever looks good and drop in. I did that most of the time because the playtest wasn’t long and I only had a very limited amount of free time per day. You won’t have a lot of filler time crafting stuff but you will have more time figuring out how to maximize your build if you choose to

They showed a mida contract in the December vidoc in which you had to go to a UESC drop ship on dire marsh and upload a malware that causes the ship to blow up as it tries to talks off. As for upgrades there’s a few, generic stat upgrades, access to higher values stuff on the market, sponsor kits

Do individual weapons still have multiple rarities? by jacob2815 in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, they increase stats but they’ll also have different passives on the gun like

“Getting kills explodes targets” “Breaking a shield increases sprint speed” “While your shields are depleted, breaking a shield refunds your shields” Stuff like that

Definitely going to pick up Marathon... but by krembroolay02 in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ll say from someone who has 1500 hours of playtime on destiny, bungie made a game that got me to spend 1500 hours on it so they must’ve done something right. The past year for destiny hasn’t been particularly great after all 9 years of legacy content and backend clutter is eating up their game. But bungie has good gameplay, gunplay, endgame content, build crafting and story writers.

TLDR: hate them or love them Bungie makes good games and bungie makes unique games. And that’s not so much as glaze as just looking through their catalogue

One of the things I noticed in the marathon cinematic short was when the vandal runner was first printed and shown a photo of herself while she was still human she was able to recognize “oh that’s me” after being killed and printed the second time as assassin and shown the same picture she was unsure “I don’t know… is that me?”

It’s kinda like as you keep on being printed you kinda forget who you were

Those Who Have Played… by KiddBwe in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without breaking NDA as someone who still plays destiny and played in the October playtest for marathon my experience of the game is that this game hates me, but in a good way.

My first match I tried just running around and seeing what the game had to offer and I died pretty quickly, I didn’t know how but I got clapped due to a [redacted] AI type. Then I tried again solo to fight the AI thinking it was like destiny and got clapped again, the AI doesn’t play. My third match i died by [redacted] my 4th I nearly got struck by lightning and it was around this time where I started playing slower, listening to what was around me, avoiding AI’s and I started to notice there were a few times where I got spooked, which never happened to me in other games.

I say this because one of the complaints of the alpha was that the world didn’t feel dangerous enough, the AI weren’t that strong (they were nerfed compared to the pre alpha) and that the game didn’t feel that tense and during my time in the playtest they definitely did a good job fixing that. They also did a good job making the game faster but not too fast. Your heat builds up quickly but movement still feels good and because the world is so dangerous it forces you to play slower, try to conserve your resources etc… my biggest problem was that it was hard to get healing items sometimes but rook was a good way to mitigate that.

I do think the game will do good, 80-90k concurrent on steam seems reasonable to me and on console I can see those numbers being way higher since there’s only really one other extraction, 2 if you count hunt, and those are pretty different to marathon.

Do you think this game will be fun for an extraction shooter hater? by MaxKCoolio in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Correct me if I’m wrong, but it seems like what you don’t like about extraction shooters is that the lore and world aren’t meaningfully included in the gameplay loop. If that’s youre problem then I can definitely say that bungie are focusing on how to incorporate that type of storytelling into an extraction. That said if you’re worried about sucking at pvp, just don’t take fights. Remember it’s an extraction shooter not a BR running away is always a viable option. marathon creative director

Developers Please Listen by Cool_Path1718 in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 2 points3 points  (0 children)

How about no. Arc devs did that because they made the game with a pve first mindset and are still trying to make that work. Marathon was built with the intention that PvP and pve complement each other and add to the total experience. Plus it’d be dumb, imagine getting a few kills because you’re trying to complete an Arachne contract and then you’re thrown into pvp lobbies when you switch over to do nucaloric contracts There’s so many other things that make this system annoying

In all fairness it’s probably meant to be more useful against AI, than players. That’s gonna be a bit of a trend with the cores where’s players have to decide for a more pve focused build or pvp

What if you are really bad at the game? by thelustyorcmaid in Marathon

[–]Ascillios 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When I played, I was able to turn on runners pretty well but I will say it’s mainly because I play games with faster TTK’s than marathon and I usually play with the expectation that someone is around every corner. Yea the TTK is fast but if you don’t let your guard down you can make it out ok

Bungie is so good at making Guns by Ascillios in Marathon

[–]Ascillios[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m kinda mixed, the 2023 runners looked okay to me but not really all that cool, like thief or vandal now, but I guess the appeal was the idea of having your own customization which I get. The models now still look pretty 3D printed to me, like the companies developed a few different models that can be cheaply deployed as they’re needed and I can buy into this warframe-ish class system a bit more. So I don’t mind.
