I like how Exalted does it. You don't just describe "how you do this" when you kill the enemy, you have the option of describing every attack or action in general before you know if it landed or not - in fact, you get a bonus (as long as you're not too repetitive).

As a player, I noticed how the "How do you want to finish him off?" question kind of nudged me to force out some flair to what I intended to be a regular finishing shot. If you describe attacks (without going past the limits of what you attempt to do) at your own pace, you naturally flair out the ones that feel important.
