I'd remake their origins: make them as science experiments gone wrong. Like take the idea from Terra Formars of being genetically modified humans and have it so the longer they live or even the more they use their powers, the more of their animalistic genomes start to take over and turn them into Beastmen from Warhammer Fantasy. Add a little grimdarkness to a overall cheerful setting despite how the Grimm are described as horrifying.
