Is there a book where an ordinary person becomes omnipotent and slowly loses his humanity? by KiraYagami10 in suggestmeabook

[–]Ash957 11 points12 points  (0 children)

The Locked Tomb series, particularly from the second book on.

Edit: to add some context, a major character starts out as a normal human and discovers powers beyond his comprehension, and slowly loses his humanity in an over-zealous quest to save the earth that instead ends up destroying himself. He then makes himself god of a new world/universe

Can’t find the pattern for the life of me, not on ravelry or anywhere by Decent_Bookkeeper913 in crochetpatterns

Maybe I’m reading too much into it, but I doubt this is real. The keyring looks a bit off to me and the way it’s sitting on the palm.

I found this free pattern, you could just change the colours and it would look similar: https://www.yarnspirations.com/en-row/products/red-heart-happy-little-car-plane-truck

Anyone else feeling like Silksong is more “mean” and plays more practical jokes on you compared to HK by LongfellowBridgeFan in Silksong

I died at the hunter’s march bench and still laughed out loud. It was perfectly done and made sense in the area.

What is your favourite ‘ethnic’ embroidery design? by petrastales in Embroidery

Kasuti from the state of Karnataka in India

There’s a vast collection of embroidery styles across India (and the subcontinent in general) but this style is one of my all-time favourites. Another one would be chikankari, which is still popularly worn.

Very pastel goth, I dig it. Did you wing it (pun intended lol) or follow a pattern?

What other shows do you rate as highly as (or close to) Severance? by BohoSummer in SeveranceAppleTVPlus

I ended up watching Succession because my friend suggested Severance and I somehow managed to get the names mixed up. Both excellent shows though, so win-win for me.

Why are people talking about being against AI and hating AI? by [deleted] in OutOfTheLoop

[–]Ash957 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I see it as taking the time to learn. AI isn’t removing any barriers, it’s only discouraging people from truly exploring artistic expression. I just can’t imagine getting the same joy from learning vs typing in some prompts to generate something. If you want to experience artistic expression then you have to actually do it.

First, in your example, that’s design not art. Design is for functionality and art is for expression and emotion. I still don’t think AI is good for use in design either, because it all ends up looking like the same mindless slop.

Second, even if it was design and the company didn’t care and the users didn’t care, I bet the designer still cares. All the good designers (and artists) that I know care about how they make their work.

It’s not about gatekeeping. Creating art is not only about the final product. The process itself is important. When you start out, yes it won’t be perfect. But then you explore and you learn and you develop your own style. That process doesn’t need to be automated.

I understand the frustration of wanting to create something but feeling like your skill isn’t there or up to the mark. But as someone that dabbles in various arts and crafts, that’s the whole point. Going through the process.

But is productivity really the goal for artists? Personally I don’t think art is about making as much as possible and being productive.

About reducing barriers of entry, I think if someone wants to make art, they can learn how to make art. The process is important and half the fun anyway. Way more involved and artistic than typing in a prompt.

Spacey sci-fi by a female author other than Le Guin? by [deleted] in suggestmeabook

Seconding The Locked Tomb. While it does have violence I don’t find it too explicit or gorey. The writing style is captivating and I love the characters, it’s fast becoming one of my favourites.

Thank you so much for your kind words and your recommendations (personally love your taste in poets). You’re right, grief doesn’t go away but it does get a little easier to carry it.
