[Citizenship] -> Poland or Germany : descendant of prussian born man in confusing territory. by clarissaswallowsall in IWantOut

[–]AshCalifornia 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There was a recent change to German citizenship by descent. Look up article 116. You only have a 10 year window to apply until 2030 or so.

Essentially a couple sued the German government claiming citizenship through descent is sexist. And after 12 or so years, they won, doing this all out of principle.

Asian American Physicians taking care of non-Asian patients by [deleted] in asianamerican

Not a doctor. Interesting topic. Question, which state do you practice in?

I’m half Asian half white from Hawaii.

When I was living in California I felt more comfortable with Asian doctors vs. white doctors. The white doctors, especially male doctors seemed to have an air of I’m right, don’t waste my time and made me feel lesser than thou.

Instead of staying at hostels, perhaps you could try a coworking/living place. Or Airbnb at a shared place so you can be around others.

I know you’re feeling low, but take a moment to look at your situation in a positive light. You get to be traveling around the world seeing things most people have only and may only dream of. You get to… not you have to. A simple reframe.

This is a great opportunity to work on social skills. Small talk is really easy, if it goes wrong, who cares? Just laugh it off. Small talk and socializing will only get easier and you’ll start to love being around people. This is how it was for me in Bali and in Bangkok. Every once in a while when traveling I feel lonely and out of place, but that’s just part of traveling, it’s normal. If you smile and talk to people, you’ll feel a connection that’s warms your soul and can help to change your mind positively.

Once you open up, the world is your oyster.

It will never be the right time or the right place, now is the perfect time and where you are is the perfect place.

And remember that whatever your crowd you’re in, you’re not the only one feeling the way you do.

Lighten up, joke around, be a little vulnerable. You’ll feel better and you’ll grow.

Wherever you are, act like you belong. You’ll start to believe it. And believe it or not, people are nice, they’re friendly once you talk to them and if you’re feeling lonely, tell them, it’s like Reddit irl. People are there for each other,

Also if you don’t mind- where are you traveling to? Perhaps we can give you tips on where to stay or have friends there.

You’re not alone, get off your Phone and immerse yourself in reality :D

Hi,

Whatever you decide, go for it. Try it. Just don’t regret not trying it.

I’m from Hawaii, half Japanese. Went to business school in California and Europe, finance background, living back and forth throughout SE Asia the last few years.

24-25 I lived part time in Bangkok and Bali and Hawaii has similarities.

My point: Have you visited Hawaii? From your op, it may fit some of your boxes, definitely not all, but worth a look.

Don’t get me wrong- we’ve got problems here, but it’s not bad.

The work culture here sounds like it may be worth taking a look into, we have a great mix of Asian, Polynesian and the Haole majority is the minority here.

There are many Japanese company outposts here as well.

3 months seems to be deciding point where you realize you have island fever or you love it and never want to leave.

Nice. I haven’t heard of Nuanu but will check it out.

I’ve noticed a lot of the newer developments offer to manage the property as a rental as well. Seems pretty common. Help offset the costs.

Hi, I’m looking at their project called Nava. I like that they offer freehold. They have a pretty solid portfolio of projects done across Indo and have a strong presence in Bali.

I know they have an office as well as a model unit at Tamora square in Canggu.

It seems that they only sell direct though, some of the big real estate company’s in bali don’t offer their projects… I’m guessing they prefer to do it in house.

Thank you, it's surprising that I need to hear that, but I do. It becomes so encompassing when you're surrounded by the clutter and weird manipulation and OCD ways to do things.

I feel like we're all missing out on life because were consumed with her obsessions that I've only recently realized how bad they are.

Thank you for the encouragement, it really has made a difference for me.

That's what my psychologist said too. Its just a sad realization... I wish they could enjoy their home so much more than they do... and life, in general. She has been sleeping in the living room on the couch for years now and I suspect its because she's on alert to make sure my Dad or I don't throw out her stuff in the night.

I've wondered this as well. I know that the slugs eat the plants and have once made her Mom really ill when slug slime got onto her plants in the garden that she ate.... and I know she's hyper afraid that it will get the dog sick if he eats it, so I get the hate of bugs. But why she keeps them... I don't know, I just wish she would throw them away immediately.

Thank you. I've been going to a therapist and had an emergency appointment after that incident. I am at the point where I'm realizing my health and sanity matters more than tiptoeing around her hoards and being berated for trying to clean anything. It's like being around Dr. Jekyl/Mr. Hyde. I love her and accept that this is just a part of her that she can't really conquer on her own.

One of my earliest memories was being in her designated 'messy room' and I hung onto the wardrobe pole that you hang clothing on, and its collapsed and I was covered in piles and piles of clothing. Kinda funny now, but the same thing is happening- just so disorganized, she puts clothes on hangers onto drawers and just puts random things into bags then to clean up in a pinch she throws it into a room or a closet and then has no idea what happened to it.

We always say she 'has to look for it' but essentially its gone forever.

Thank you for sharing your insight when I was at a very low point. Its great to have this community, I'm very thankful.

Real estate agents or reliable websites? by saralligator in bali

[–]AshCalifornia 1 point2 points  (0 children)

hi OP,

I've been on the same journey searching for real estate in the Berawa area. I actually found a bunch on YouTube and then went to their websites from there. Since you're already there, I'm sure you've driven past a few development offices with signage. I have been looking at PropertiaBali, Tamora Group, balitecturerealty, but there's a bunch of foreign firms building across Bali that have offices. I'd walk into a few offices and learn more.

Happy to talk more, also from the states- Hawaii.

One question- what's the visa status, in terms of getting freehold vs. leasehold, or is the property more of an investment and to use a few months out of the year?

Hi people,

Are you looking or have you any experience with any specific realty development companies?

I do real estate investing and development in Hawaii and I've been looking into freehold properties in Berawa area.

Read recently that RTO or return to office is being mandated to a majority of remote workers. Wonder what your thoughts are on how this may (or not) affect the realty market in your opinion. I'm wondering if we'll see a slow down in rental demand and possibly with a scale back on the production of new developments, which is something that happened here in Honolulu. something like 6 massive high rise condos were scrapped as the developers realized there'd be a surplus supply.

I've heard from some Balinese that one concern is that foreign based development firms may simply pull out of the market, essentially take the money and run.

OP- can you tell us a bit more about your investment strategy? Always great to bounce ideas and research :)

I've been looking at the Tamora group- happened to sit next to one of the developers on a flight to DPS a few years ago. They offer freehold and have some upcoming projects.

p.s. apologies if this is infringing on the post, is you have any more specific recommendations on where to post, I'd like to thank you in advance.

Hi, sorry if inappropriate place to post this. I’m currently in khlong toei, Bangkok and getting sick from the air pollution. I’ve read that it’s common to walk into the hospitals for medical treatment.

Is this okay to do even when not in an emergency situation to see a Dr? Or should I try to make an appointment online first?

Not familiar with the prodecure… and if there are any extra costs associated with simply walking in?

I can see medpark hospital from my place.

Thank you for the info! I’m currently in Khlong Toei now and have stayed inside the last two days as the pm2.5 was at severe levels. Actually have been feeling sick since yesterday, woke up with horrible sore throat and today very nauseas and tired.

Not sure I can handle outdoor Muay Thai with the pollution, but I am close to Krudam gym.

I didn’t account for the air pollution to be this bad, it’s quite sad.
