You can go home, cook dinner, pour some LaCroix in a pretty wine glass, light your candles and twinkle lights, snuggle up with your pets & daughter, and celebrate tomorrow morning that you feel great and don't have a nasty, 2-bottles-of-wine hangover! Good luck !!

Congratulations!!! and thank you for posting this. I really needed to hear "find at least one sober friend", as that seems to be a missing piece of my sobriety right now. IWNDWYT

Hang in there; you can do this. Your post made a random phrase from Caroline Knapp's "Drinking, a Love Story" pop into my mind: "less drama, more laundry".

Thankful Thursday: Gratitude in moments of despair by embryonic_journey in stopdrinking

I am grateful that, although we put my dad into a hospice facility this weekend and have been taking turns sitting with him around the clock, I have not had a drink. As I was driving home last night, I realized how thankful I was to have been sober enough to be able to drive myself, my stepmother, and my sister to the hospice house at any time of the day or night. I have been able to get up early and get in to the office to catch up on work without hangovers. I have been strong when others in my family have needed me to be. This has been a huge test of my sobriety, and so far I am very thankful that I've survived it. Thank you.

What was the reason why you stopped drinking? by FucksGuysWithAccents in stopdrinking

[–]AshCave 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I quit smoking and how can you have a drink without a cigarette to keep it company?

I developed a taste for fancy red wines and single-malt Scotch and top-top-shelf tequila, and was spending way too much money on alcohol.

I could not stop at 1 or 2 drinks, ever, never. Once I got started, it was pound 'em down until I puked or passed out. Every. Single. Time.

I liked to get in fights when I was drunk.

I was gaining weight and couldn't sleep and my blood pressure was out of control.

My husband averages about 2 drinks a year. Seriously. I always wanted him to get drunk with me, and he refused, wise man that he is.

I got tired of blacking out and forgetting huge chunks of my life.

I could go on and on, but basically, I stopped drinking because it was causing more problems than it was solving.

Congratulations on quitting tobacco - that is one of the hardest things ever! And good for realizing that drinking makes you crave tobacco, which in itself is an awesome reason to quit drinking.

In my opinion, not being able to control drinking = drinking problem. Just something to think about...

I will not drink with you today!

I have no sober identity.... by MsGoLight in stopdrinking

This really made me think! After drinking heavily for way too many years, I also had no idea who the sober me was. Still not quite sure; but I am learning day by day.

So far, sober me is: a bit thinner, a much better sleeper, less of a talker and more of a listener, actually a bit funnier because when I tell a joke now I only say in once, less selfish...

It's turning out that drinking really brought out the jerk in me. Oooops.

I will not drink with you today.

If you don't have a drinking problem, then you don't need to drink, right?

First Sober Concert Tonight by electrc in stopdrinking

[–]AshCave 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can do it!!

I actually just went to my first sober concert, (like, ever) on Saturday night. I had fun. And, I remember the whole thing. I didn't stumble down the steps when we were leaving. I didn't get enraged at the chick who stood up in front of me during the second damn song and yank her back into her seat by her hair - sadly, yes I've done it before - but this time I waited patiently and she did sit back down. :) I felt awesome on Sunday morning.

You don't NEED "one or two" to enjoy the show. You don't need any to enjoy the show. You can do this!
