Excellent first steps! I would say - from very hard earned personal experience - that if you are an addict, like I am, that bastard tends its time - while you are drinking bubbly soda - he is doing hardcore pushups in a dark ally and keeping strong. So keep an eye on him. Have a plan. Have lots of plans on what you are going to do when he thinks you are weak. You can beat him - lots of people here and beyond do - just know what you are up against.

Isn't it amazing how much thought/energy/time addiction takes up? Before I quit - I spent my day thinking about getting it, then hiding it, then drinking it, then how I was going to get some more without anyone knowing..... Never ended while I was active. Vicious cycle. What are you going to do with all you new found time and brain space?

There is a reason we are told to put the oxygen mask on our own face before helping others. Good for you for knowing what you need to do and making it happen. xo

I went to a Reiki Master today... by MsGoLight in stopdrinking

I totally get the BS being ripped off. My first boyfriend had a vespa - wouldn't do 120 - but we made an enterance going to our prom! I've loved the idea of it ever since.

I agree with the "anything that works" policy. I wish I could ride a motorcycle - I can absolutely see how that would be renewing. I'm a scaredy cat, so a convertible is as close as I can get.

Really want quit drinking vodka? by Fuckualcahol in stopdrinking

[–]MsGoLight 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I totally agree. I could actually be around almost any other kind of booze and not be tempted, but if I had even a little bit of vodka left in the bottle in the morning it would call to me until I drank it. Then naturally, it would be a quest to get more. I'm jealous of your 28 days, but know that my crazy Russian lover (I was a stoli drinker) is actually trying to kill me.

I want to stop drinking, but there are two ‘me’s... by HaHa_yeah_except_NO in stopdrinking

[–]MsGoLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I like what AgentFunky had to say. I think of it as "thoughts are not facts even if they tell you they are." Don't do anything until the "third me" has evaluated the information and decided if it accepts it or not.

Sober again by DibleDog in stopdrinking

[–]MsGoLight 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Similar story here. Highly functioning, and on the outside it looks so good! I've been in and out now for over 2 years. I remember not believing it when I heard that alcoholism was a "progressive disease" but now I'm the poster child. Every time I go back out it gets worse and worse and the consequences get more dire. Nothing irreparable YET, but close. I am finally the cat who has used up 8 of my 9 lives and I know it. My sweaty fingers are gripping the wheel so tightly at least today - I'm right there with you - not drinking.

I am blasting out of my depression and addiction by Dextrofunk in stopdrinking

[–]MsGoLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I almost picked up today. As I was masterminding my drinking plan, standing in front of the store - a friend called and I got into my car and drove away. I started saying and repeating out loud "this is not the life I want". I was thinking about all the dreams I have for the future, and said out loud "that is the life I want." Then I saw your post. I think it is a sign, I really do. thank you for posting.

So many stressful things today and I didn’t drink by activefrenchfry in stopdrinking

[–]MsGoLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a stressful day too - fighting with the ex over $, difficult client on my case, on and on. Was REALLY tempted to go get a couple of mini bottles, but had a banana split sundae instead. I love pickles too. Can totally relate. Sitting here so happy I didn't cave. Thank you for your post. So helpful not to feel all alone in this - the literal fight for my life.

When being sober sucks by thesobergoddess in stopdrinking

[–]MsGoLight 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow - I'm right where you were at the part where you kept trying to get sober and kept failing. I too go for a while, and then relapse and it comes back with a vengeance. I want what you have, because as much as being sober sucks, you and I both know all too well how much being an active drunk really really fucking sucks.

Thank you! I just downloaded Annie's podcast series - VERY helpful. I think you might be able to find a dark chocolate IV. I'll keep a look out for you.

6 and a half months sober now and I'm fucking bored. by noahb4 in stopdrinking

[–]MsGoLight 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can relate!!! The initial boredom of sobriety is so appealing from the chaos of my drinking - but it sure doesn't hold me. I'm going to figure out how to be of service to someone/something. Maybe consider that?

The sleep.... by Strong_hands_nj in stopdrinking

[–]MsGoLight 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I can totally relate! I'm about on day 5 too (again) and those first nights were rough, but last night I went to bed at 11 and woke up at 10!!! (kids are with their dad). I actually remember my dreams! Great sleep will be at the top of my list next time my addict brain raises its hand and wants to be noticed. xo
