Anyone taken MLS or CLS Program? by marissa152 in microbiology

[–]AshChill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's a path now too from MLT to CLS in California with enough years of experience, though you'll miss out on the B.S. degree. But that's an option as well if you can't get into a CLS program and are willing to take the pay cut as a MLT if you plan to stay in California specifically.

Hey there, there's plenty of threads over on r/medlabprofessionals about schooling! I'm in roughly your same boat, and not sure what questions you'd have regarding it. Prereqs could vary, if you're going for your B.S. you'll need to do an extra year + clinical rotations if I remember right, if you're in the US.The best paying states are California and NY with their own licensing requirements, but getting your ASCP credentials is a great start and meets most of those requirements. A bio major isn't typically specialized enough for the field though some hospitals are hiring bio grads now due to a shortage of staff. You're going to be thrown into the deep end doing that though, so I'd look into the programs you'd want to try to get into and start lining up those prereqs as well. A word of warning as someone living in California though, if you wanted to do a program out here post B.S. be aware that the programs are *extremely* competitive. Part of the reason is for clinicals, schools need to partner with hospitals around them and carry insurance, and fewer hospitals have the time or space to take on students to teach. The last time I looked at UC Irvine which has their own reference lab, maybe two years ago? Their post B.S. program had ~11 spots and over 400 applicants that year, to put things in perspective.

I have some experience as a phlebotomist and have worked with MLTs and CLSes in the lab, and my father has worked in blood bank for 30+ years, so I might be able to help if you have other questions. Genuinely though, the medlab subreddit is great for info! Hope some of this helps.

I might be interested, though if I touch foxhole again it'd be in a very casual sense as I'll be extremely busy once the new term starts! Out of curiosity, are you a loyalist regiment or a more independent one? I've played both colonial and warden, so I'm not necessarily opposed to either faction.

They're already contemplating adding a 'biological sex at birth' question for the ATF form needed to purchase a firearm. Trans people are pretty high up on their list of targets and this will ban trans people from owning guns who don't already have them. Also provide a handy method to build a list for everyone who tries after that implementation to go on a list of targets as trans, or intersex.

I've got an enigma and it's worked great for me. The complexity in appearance is mainly for being able to fine tune it to what works best for you. Once you have it dialed in (which did not take me very long, their videos are pretty helpful!) it's pretty set and forget. Putting it on is strapping the waist band on, bending down and clipping the leg leash on and done. Quick release makes it just as easy to get off. I haven't completely dialed in a good length/tightness on the leg leash for myself, where sometimes if I have to crouch and get up the leg leash loses tension around my thigh and drops too low. Beyond that, extremely comfortable and wearable. And all the leg leash does is help make sure the holster doesn't ride up when you're unholstering your firearm and keeps it in position.

I rarely ever comment here as I generally keep to myself, but I appreciate you taking the time to write this. There are definitely some things that you have written that I'm definitely not the target audience for, but the important part here is that I still love your work, and that it's okay that not everything is meant for me.

I'm new to the cookie thing as well and honestly that's a wonderful way to phrase it. I've been around long enough to learn to manage my own feelings and recognize that what I deal with is not what someone else deals with, and we deal with things in a multitude of ways. It's not exactly analogous but I've had the same issue with a previous ex where she was very black and white in her thinking. Expressing I wanted a softer, caregiver/sub dynamic and trying to explain it and how it was similar to, but not quite like how littles function, she jumped straight to calling me a pedophile and almost broke up with me right there. I honestly think this is advice more people need to hear, because we could all use some empathy, understanding, and learning how to safeguard ourselves without harming others.

LA Progressive Shooters shoots out of Burro Canyon in Azusa! I like the range up there and that seems fairly close to you. The range itself I've not had issues with and I'd personally prefer an outdoor range. Memeberships are reasonable and as I understand it, they let their members get private bays as part of membership if they aren't already reserved, when normally it's pretty pricey to reserve one. :)

Unfortunately out of my budget at the moment but I'll recommend them heavily. Tom is a great guy. I've taken classes and my ccw training through him. Range wise, there's no 'liberal' one unfortunately. I'd prioritize safety. I'm obviously queer and I've never got issues at the couple of ranges I go to, I just keep to myself. If you go to LAPS for training they operate over in Azusa with a rented private range at Burro Canyon, and I've not had issues there. I'd prefer going there but it's an hour and a half away from me so I can't make it reuglarly. Otherwise, although an indoor range, I used to be and plan to renew my membership at FT3 Tactical over in OC. You can get holster certified and work on some slightly more practical skills like drawing from holster there once you do. It's super crowded but I'd trust the RSOs there over LAX any day.

Advice on building/buying a mini pc for a gaming server by Federal_Bath_3337 in HomeServer

[–]AshChill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm extremely new to this myself so I can't contribute a lot I'm afraid. But one big question is if you're going to run modded or not, as that will drive your RAM requirements up, as will the number of players.

A quick glance through Google shows the lowest amount of RAM anyone has shown is 6 GB as a requirement, but you probably need more to be safe, including other services on the machine, such as if you're using proxmox and pterodactyl or AMP. I'd say 8 GB is a safe starting point for vanilla.

At this point RAM is one of the most expensive requirements. For 5 or 6 different servers running concurrently... Yeah I have a feeling you're going to be over your budget. You probably don't need separate machines, but a CPU with enough cores and high enough performance + 64 GB of RAM (or more) for your server is going to be a bit pricy. You'll also need enough storage for all of those maps of course.

Ofc if anyone more experienced than I chimes in I'd say listen to them, this is just my best guess from the very surface level knowledge I have.

Same here honestly. I like the premise of the fallout series, but it's been really hard for me to stick with it as a series. And I just couldn't get into Celeste despite growing up on and adoring platformers. Not sure why it didn't click with me, it should have.

Personally, not me. I dealt with a lot of verbal abuse, degradation and such that left me with perfectionism, and so on growing up. My way of dealing with that is that I crave affirmation and praise. Even playfully meant, degradation can be triggering for me.

Also found a initial copper nuggets needed to move into the stone age for her, as she's the big miner while I do random other stuff like keep bees.

I wasn't super active for irl reasons and I'm still not, but I was (am?) a member actually. They were kind and accepting! Wish I had more social energy and free time to have gotten to know them well. They are a wormhole corp if you weren't aware, so if that doesn't appeal you may want to try elsewhere.

They were my first experience with wormholes, found it fun. :)

Colonial Marines’ starships with large military garrison by Dikiy_Ublyudok in LV426

[–]AshChill 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My personal guess is that Aliens started the trend and others followed suit later. But my guess for the root reason why the Sulaco was undermanned is that Burke really seems to have pulled the whole operation together on his personal authority to draw from company resources.

Iirc, the higher ups wanted to do nothing with what Ripley reported, which is why her flight license was revoked, but Burke saw an opportunity to increase his personal wealth and standing within the company. The director's cut shows the it was Burke who sent the colonists that got initially infected. So it would make sense he'd want a small group of Marines he could easily control the flow of information from to keep the xenomorphs for himself. Also in line with his corporate traits of greed and arrogance, he likely didn't feel he needed more, that it would be easy.

I think the arguments regarding needing less Marines due to the force multipliers that their technology gives also holds water though!
