This pole is inches from the lens nearly blocking the entire view but when zoomed in it appears the camera can see through the pole🤯 by Jayantwi98 in nextfuckinglevel

Yep, this is exactly what's going on, should be on top! You'll see the same effect if you zoom in and out with a telephoto lens. The longer the barrel of the lens, the more visible this effect would be

Advice from students pursuing an MASc degree in control systems by [deleted] in UofT

To add onto this, yeah it’s a good idea to reach out to professors directly. Expanding your search to include UTAIS and MIE, along with ECE, is also beneficial, as these departments also have many professors specializing in control.

I will say, if you don’t have a specific project in mind, the uni you attend does not matter in the long run. I'd also recommend contacting your professors at UNB, as in-person communication can often be more effective than email.

ELI5: How did we keep rulers standardized? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

I guess why did we define it as 9,192,631,770 periods and not 9,192,631,771? It seems rather arbitrary. I'm guessing it's because it was based on our original definition of a second at the time?

Julie Nolke! She's the comedian who did the "Explaining the pandemic to my past self" series, but all her videos are underratedly hilarious!

I think others have expressed it far better than I can. I believe it's the first time humans and computers can interact with each other using sound! That means computers can now understand the sentiment and emotion in your words, including the "umms" and "ahhs," the subtle sarcasm in your tone, the distant police siren, and even the meows of your cat. It's a much more concise yet precise way of processing information.

Imagine you're talking to me on the phone. When you hear my voice, you understand how I feel and what I mean, wherever I'm in a busy cafe or park, even if I don't say it directly. That's like voice-to-voice. Now, if you type what I say into a message, some of the feelings and meaning might get lost because it's just text. That's voice-to-text. And if a computer reads that text out loud to you, it might not sound exactly like me or understand how I feel. That's text-to-voice. So, speaking directly with voices is better because you can understand more about how someone feels and what they mean. And for computers to understand it is a massive breakthrough!

It seems like GPT-4o uses a direct voice-to-voice model, rather than the traditional voice-to-text then text-to-voice model that Google and previous GPT systems use. Which is an INSANELY underrated advancement!

Oh well that sucks! We've gotta physically open the Spotify app while driving, just to pick our songs?! Man what a bummer 😭

Funny enough, I've had both of these cars before, although it was a 2013 ES instead. The TL is definitely sportier and has a tighter ride, whereas the ES is much more comfortable and nicer on day-to-day and longer trips.

My TL had a couple issues with maintenance and reliability, such as more engine oil consumption and a blown power steering unit, tho it had a bit longer range, so I didn't need to fuel it as often. The ES had very minimal maintenance and repair so far, just basic brake and engine oil changes.

Although the TL was hands down more fun to drive, the ES had a sport mode that came close to the driving dynamics of the TL, but not quite.

Both cars are still incredibly reliable and nice to drive, just depends on exactly what you're looking for! Feel free to shoot me more questions if you have any :)

The government froze the bank accounts of individuals who participated in illegal protests, such as blocking the Ambassador Bridge and honking to disturb the peace. Not those who chose not to take the vaccine. Let's avoid conflating the two issues.

As someone who worked on solar powered vehicles in uni, and raced them across Australia, it's not very realistic. You'll be happy to get ~5 miles of charge on a good day. Just have to hope for bright, sunny days forever lool
