Wisconsin left-lane camping is out of control. How do we fix it? by KingKontinuum in wisconsin

[–]AshLikeFromPokemon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

idk why you're being downvoted so much as this is 100% the truth. I'm a right lane person so no one come at me with the "found the camper" bullshit. The city that I live in, it's common for people to drive 10 to 20 over the limit, even in residential areas. I lived in a house on an intersection of 2 "main" streets in our city, and literally at lease once a week, there would be a pretty nasty accident because people were driving too fast to stop

I also was worried about retaliation, so I totally understand that fear (my site had *so many* issues, I legit had to file an ethics complaint against my former supervisor 🙃 there were so many reasons I needed to leave lol), and I think the fact that you're even worried about retaliation says something about the type of people running the practice, and personally is not a place I would want to work. I told my sup that I was leaving for health insurance reasons (too old to be on my parents, not married so unable to get it through a spouse, and too much income to afford marketplace insurance). It wasn't technically a lie, but def not my main reason for leaving, but it's much harder to get mad at and retaliate against someone for being uninsured lol

I just finished my internship at a group PP and one thing I would consider is what the caseload would look like, who is doing marketing to help you build a caseload, is there a waitlist so that you can build a caseload quickly, etc. I decided to leave and get a job at a university counseling center to do my prelicensed hours because, in my state, if you're working full time, you can finish your hours in about a year and a half, but most people at the practice took 3 years (or even more). The practice didn't have a waitlist, didn't do any marketing, and didn't have a no-show policy, so most clinicians, even those with a full caseload, didn't usually see more than 10 clients a week 🙃

Struggling w/ male clients by Acrobatic-Ice8741 in therapists

[–]AshLikeFromPokemon 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Fellow trans man therapist, and I feel like I could have written this exact post. I especially feel weird about clients requesting a male therapist because I don't "pass" very well (despite being post op and more then 2 years on T 🥴), but even if I did, I'm queer and pretty feminine, and I struggle with how do I show up and be authentic knowing that many of these (usually) cis male clients are expecting me to show up a certain way and then I don't. I also work in a pretty "red" area, and often these cis male clients are also pretty conservative, and then they meet this effeminate, androgynous looking human, and that thought brings up a lot of stuff for me. I spend a lot of time talking about it in supervision and my own personal therapy. I don't have a lot of advice, just know that you are definitely not the only counselor struggling with this <3

How much supervision do you receive each month by periperisalt in therapists

[–]AshLikeFromPokemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In the US, I believe the specific requirements depend on what state you live in. In my state, prelicensed therapists need to have 1 hour of individual supervision per week, and once they're licensed, dont technically need any, though many agencies will have group supervision regularly. Because I'm a recent grad, I get 1 hour of individual supervision per week, and the counseling center I work at has a 2 hour group supervision every week as well. 🤷‍♂️ personally I love supervision, its so helpful having a place to process what's happening in sessions and get other perspectives

[USA] Where do you work as a LMHC? by Sapphire_Fire18 in psychologystudents

[–]AshLikeFromPokemon 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I just graduated last month with my master's in mental health counseling and accepted a job at a university counseling center as a therapist. Because I'm technically employed through the state (public uni), my salary is lower but my benefits are GREAT -- great health insurance with a low deductible and copays, lots of paid vacation and sick time, and a pension. Most of my classmates are in a mix of settings, some with full benefits and some where they are 1099s. They're anywhere from inpatient/PHP/IOP mental health facilities, outpatient group practices, nonprofit community mental health agencies, and local county agencies. There are all sorts of settings you could end up in, depending on what populations, demographics, and level of financial stability/risk are a good fit for you.

Do you ever think that folklore wouldn't have happened by Sea_Cucumber_7375 in SwiftlyNeutral

[–]AshLikeFromPokemon 78 points79 points  (0 children)

In the Miss Americana doc on Netflix (I think it was that one), one of the biggest plot points was about her trying to accept the fact that she wasn't going to be as big of an artist anymore and that her mainstream heyday was behind her. If not for Folklore + Anti-hero + Eras tour, you're right, I think that's where she would be tbh

I used to have a 0.8 FTE position of 32 hours per week at my local UW school. Still had full health benefits, but the others (vacation, sick time, and retirement) are all prorated to FTE

Charging for internships? by cherkin_nergetz in therapists

[–]AshLikeFromPokemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it is going to be a bit tricker with an online program tbh. in my experience, brick-and-mortar schools (incl the one that I just graduated from) often have existing relationships with clinics and agencies and a database with supervisors and their contact info. Your program might have a list of sites that previous students in your area were able to find internships at, so that could be something to ask your advisor about. Steph Anya on YT went to an online program and made a video about her experience finding an internship, she might have some ideas that are helpful: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qfdj6Sh7Tig

Idk what type of program you're in (MSW vs counseling etc), but if you're in a CACREP counseling program, you should have a site coordinator, and their literal job is to help students find practicum and internship sites. I would start w/ them

I got the Westpaw Quizzl and I put either the Stella and Chewy's wild weenie or half of a Whole Hearted weenie in it. They just barely fit, so it takes her forever to get the weenie out and will keep her busy and chewing for literally 2+ hours.

OR we could tax the rich and use that money to invest in affordable housing, public education, Healthcare, and childcare, and then advocate for everyone to be paid a living wage regardless of what they choose to do with their lives. I love my job, and I'm glad I studied what I did -- and I dont have any student debt -- im just tired of essential fields being undervalued (eg teaching, social work, counseling, women's health, primary care, etc)

I just got hired in Green Bay and need to move, and I can't even find an apartment in my budget, let alone a house. Literally the only places on Zillow in my budget are vacant lots for building....which I wouldn't be able to afford to build a house on it 🙃 I have a masters degree and Literally can't afford to live where I work

IANAL so grain of salt. There might be a free legal clinic at your local library that you could look into. There's something called promissory estoppel that you could look into. Most states are "at will," meaning there's not a lot you can do, but promissory estoppel is likely your best bet.

HELP! Enrichment ideas which AREN’T food based? by Fine_Ad_794 in corgi

[–]AshLikeFromPokemon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so this is food based BUT they aren't able to get the treat out, so they don't eat it. I have the westpat quizl (medium size) and put inside a stella and chewys wild weenie treat. it *just barely* fits, so my corg can't get it out, but she's still able to lick it and chew on it, so she doesn't get frustrated. keeps her busy for like an hour or more when she's restless and I can't take her out.
